This is a bonus-content transcript from Lori Harder’s podcast episode “Drive More Traffic to Your Offers, Expert Marketing Tips with Jenna Kutcher and Jera Foster-Fell” (recorded Oct 24, 2024). The chunk contains two short practical segments: (1) Jera Foster-Fell’s TikTok/short-video optimization “sprinkles” — three tactical tips: (a) tighten the hook (first ~3 seconds; remove millennial pauses and filler words), (b) use text in three places (title text at hook, on-screen headings during lists/tutorials, and closed captions) to improve retention, and (c) design cover photos with text to increase clicks; and (2) Jenna Kutcher’s Pinterest workflow — convert one piece of content (blog/YouTube/email/podcast) into ~10 varied Canva pin templates, schedule pins so 1–2 fresh pins go live per day, and use Pinterest split-testing to gain marketing insight. Both segments include CTAs and URLs (Jera: jerbean.com; Jenna: the Pinterest Lab, teachmetopin.com).

Hey, everyone. Welcome back to the podcast. It's time for another quickie, because there's always time to fit in inspiration. And I'm doing something really fun this week for you guys. So at the end of some of my podcast interviews that I do, I have the guest kind of hold something back. Maybe it's their biggest life tip. Maybe it's their biggest marketing hack. And we do something called bonus content. And today I'm compiling a couple of my favorite pieces of bonus content from two incredible people that we are sharing for you today on this quickie. So you're going to be hearing from Jenna Kutcher, who is an online marketing expert. She has an incredible podcast. She is going to be telling you her exact process for planning and executing content. And I also have Jera Bean on here, who is a TikTok expert. She goes in and talks to different companies like Google, all about how to really utilize their TikTok. So that's what we're going to be chatting about today. And that is three tips to take your content to the next level. Jenna also talks about how she turns one piece of content into 10 pins on Pinterest. You guys. So this is today's Quickie. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this format because I would love to bring you even more bonus content. So let's get started. All right, everyone, welcome to the bonus content piece of my interview with Jere Bean. I'm so excited. We just left everybody hanging, by the way, who just listened to the podcast. And I like it.
I like it. Exciting.
I hope they're on the edge of their seat, because what you have is essentially in the podcast, you had described a version of an ice cream cone where we're going to get our foundation for building content. We're going to get our scoops. But now, today, you're going to give us the sprinkles, which is our favorite. It's our favorite part.
Anyway.
I would eat sprinkles out of a cup, like, just without the cone. So let's do it. What are. What are the sprinkles?
Okay, so we've got the cone with the content ideation. We've got the scoops of ice cream with the format. Now, the sprinkles in this little ice cream metaphor we got going, I would equate to the optimization of your videos, because, yes, we can have an idea. You can bring it to life via a format, and you could just stop there, especially if you're in more of your beginner phase of just Getting content out there. But once you get to a certain phase, you're going to want to ask yourself, how can I optimize my content to make it even better? How can I polish it off so that it performs even better? Now, there's so many ways to do this, so I'm going to just talk about three today. Three that I think have the most impact for most people. Number one. Number one sprinkle is the hook of your video. Okay, we hear about the hook a lot when it comes to short form video content. And everyone's talking about how to make it as intriguing and enticing as possible, which I'm on board with. But I don't necessarily think it always has to be like three tips to change your life dramatically. Or listen to this advice or else. Like, yeah, sometimes that works, but we don't have to necessarily think that hard about it, especially in a more beginner hook phase. So I like to think of the hook as the first about three seconds of your video. And, and the best way to approach it is to make sure there are no pauses. So we have a little something called the millennial pause. Gen Z likes to make fun of us for this, where I'll sort of like act it out. You press record, second pause. Hi, everyone, I'm Jara. It's like, wait a second. One, one second. In short form, video content culture is a lifetime. And it's such a simple fix. You just edit out the pause. So even if you do pause, just edit it out. So we don't want any pause. And then when it comes to you actually speaking, we want to eliminate any filler words. So I just said, hi, my name is Jarrah. We don't want that. We don't want. What's up? Hello. How's it going? Hope you're having a good day. All right, so all of these things that we use as sort of bridges to begin speaking, it's okay to say that I still do it all the time, but either catch yourself or edit it out. And then the really simple way to begin is just with the sentence that you're going to start off with. So it doesn't have to be this life changing sentence that so many people teach. Just begin with the topic if you're talking to camera or if you're using voiceover. So that's how we optimize our hook. Next, text plays a crucial role in short form video content culture. And I want you to think of three places to put your text. So coming back to our hook, think of Adding a text title as at the same time your hook is happening. Ah, it doesn't have to be the same exact thing that you're saying. It could be slightly different. It could be like an, an option two for your hook. But people are scrolling without sound. People. There are people who are hard of hearing, there are people who just are visual and they see that block of text and that's kind of what's pulling them in versus your voice. We're kind of wanting to play to all the options out there. So text title then. If you're having a video where you are listing out tips, maybe it's a tutorial, maybe it's steps, maybe it's resources, maybe you're listing off different products. Having a text title throughout to really ground the viewer as you are explaining things as you are listing things. So we have our text title, we have the text headings throughout, depending on what it is that you're talking about. And if you're speaking or you have voiceover, include, include closed captions as well. So those are our three spots for text and they really help us to bring the viewer into our piece as well as keep them watching. And that is huge. Retention is huge. With your reels or TikToks, the higher percentage rate for retention, as in if I have a 30 second video and someone's watching it for 25 seconds, that's fricking awesome. Versus if someone is watching it for five seconds, not as great. So the higher your retention rate, the more it tells the algorithm, ooh, this is something interesting. This is something we should show other people. And I truly believe that text plays a large role in that number three, not so much the video content, but it still plays a role. Your cover photos, your cover photos on both Instagram as well as TikTok, I want your cover photo to have text. It should be a text title giving insight into what that piece is about. If someone lands on your Instagram account, if someone lands on your TikTok account and all they see are photos, it's going to feel like a personal page. They're not going to be enticed to click. Their interest isn't going to be piqued to click on that particular video. So the text on your cover photo pulls someone in and potentially piques their interest enough to click on that video and watch.
So.
So those are my three sprinkles for you. We got the hook. We got using text strategically as well as creating a really intentional cover photo for your video.
Those were so good. That was so Empowering. And it's such a great guide just for starting. And honestly, I lose complete interest if people don't have text. Cause I listen to it with the sound off.
Right.
So you have to have that.
I love that.
Jara, those were so good. Literally. Oh, my gosh. So grateful for you.
Thanks for having.
Where can we find you?
Follow you.
And I know that you also have your course coming out.
Yes. So Jera Bean is my name, but we got a little dot in there. So it's Jarrett Bean on Instagram and TikTok jerbean.com for my website. And the video editing rodeo is coming soon, so.
Coming soon. We also have that in the link. So thank you so much for coming, you guys. We will see you next week.
Thanks for having me.
Hey, everyone. Welcome back to the bonus content with Jenna Kutcher on Earn your Happy, where Jenna is going to give us a Pinterest hack. Jenna, what are you going to teach us today?
Okay, so I'm going to teach you how to take one piece of content. So this could be a blog post, a YouTube, an email, a podcast episode. And we're going to create 10 different pins that you can upload onto Pinterest. And it's going to really increase the effects of it. It's also going to give you a lot of marketing insight that you're not getting anywhere else without spending a single penny.
Okay, I want it. Okay, give it to me.
Are you ready?
Okay.
So do you guys use Canva already for graphics? Okay, so we love Canva. On my team, everything comes out of Canva. So for people listening, Canva is a free way to create really beautiful graphics. Super awesome.
It's so good.
Why we love Canva and it's C a N v a dot com, is that you can create templates for everything. So when it comes to Pinterest, Pinterest prioritizes what they call fresh content, meaning new content added to the platform. This could be from a blog post from five years ago, but the new graphic that you're uploading to the content is considered fresh. So if you add just one to two fresh pieces of content to Pinterest a day, you are going to be way high up in the algorithm. Nobody knows this, okay? Pinterest literally told us this because we teach how to do this. So when you finish creating a piece of content, so for example, the podcast episode we just recorded, what you're going to do is you are going to go into Canva, and we have already created these, but you could also create them yourself. 10 templates now these could be images, they could be words, they could be images and words. It could be different colors, it could be different fonts. All it has to be is just slightly different from the other iterations. So for this episode you're going to do just a picture of you and then you're going to have the title of the episode.

Then you're going to do a picture of me and you and a title of the episode. Then you're going to do a quote that I said during that episode. Then you're going to do a quote Lori said during the episode. Then you're going to do a graphic of like hands on a computer. Like, it could literally be stock images. And so all of these 10 different pieces are all going to point to this one podcast episode. And what you can do on Pinterest is you can schedule out content so that it drips every single day. So like I said, we spend one hour a week on the platform. In that one hour, all we are doing is scheduling two pins to go live every single day. You literally have to log in and out once per week. You do not have to be on this platform every single day. So what's so amazing is that if you think about any piece of content you have, you can create different graphics to talk about that piece of content. Why? This is also super powerful and can save you a lot of money in the long run. So you're able to split test. So people like us spend money on Facebook ads. You don't necessarily want to be split testing while you're paying a lot of money, right? So on Pinterest, you could upload the same graphic but with just different colors and see which one is resonating more. You could upload the same graphic but change the headline. You could upload the same image but have one headline and one without the headline. And all of this data is going to help guide your decision as to what people are actually clicking on. And so it's a beautiful way to actually get insights that will allow you to change your strategy in other places like Facebook ads or Instagram. So the biggest thing to know with Pinterest is that you want to upload one to two fresh pieces of content a day. Again, you can create three 30 graphics for one podcast episode, and that would be enough content for an entire month. Right. And so that's really the secret sauce. And I have, like, a vault of thousands of blog posts. So coming up with a couple posts a day is so easy. And all we do is go into Canva and use templates, and everything takes, like, 10 minutes or less.
Okay, Amazing. All right, you guys, so you heard it here. This is your bonus content. Jenna, where can we find you, follow you and talk about your course one more time?
Yes. So I teach a program called the Pinterest Lab. It's an amazing program. It's super easy to get through. There is zero fluff, not a single story involved in it. It is literally down to business on exactly how to do this. It's at the Pinterest Lab. Com. If you're not ready to sign up for that and you just want to understand the strategy deeper and see some visuals of how we do this, go to teachmetopin.com and then you can find me on Instagram at Jenna Kutcher and listen to my podcast, Gold Digger Podcast. We dive into a lot of marketing strategies.
