Finding Peace When Your Nervous System is in Survival Mode
26 Feb 2026 · 11 min
Lori Harder shares how a legal suit, thyroid lump, and breast biopsies sent her nervous system into survival mode. She walks through grounding techniques, deep breathing, and surrender-oriented prayer to calm panic and spiraling thoughts, emphasizing compartmentalizing what you can control versus what you cannot.

This is not fun. This is throwing my nervous system off. This is shaking my sense of control. This made me question everything. This isn't just about thinking our way through and trying to be positive. This is about how to return to trust when your body or your business or your relationships feel threatened. Hey, everyone. Welcome back to the podcast. It's time for another quickie, because there's always time to fit in inspiration. And if you have not gotten to try glossy yet, I'm telling you, this is the craziest deal that you're ever going to get on something that's going to make you feel better than you even imagined. I think maybe for some of you, you've heard about Glo, and maybe you have not realized the impact that it's going to make on how you feel and also truly how your skin looks. So the ingredients in here are literally next level. The fact that we most likely completely overspent on our ingredients, and that's what makes it so special, is that we put the best of the best in here. I'm talking hyaluronic acid. In my personal opinion, the best magnesium on the market that is so absorbable. Bioavailable marine magnesium, along with a clinically studied probiotic proven to stay alive in your gut to actually work where you want it to work. Help with your digestion, help with bloat. You guys, you have to give it a try. Go to glossy.com and use code happy for 40% off. Are you serious? 40% off? Who even does that? It's because we know that once you try it, it's something that people are just obsessed with and falling in love with. Like, I'm talking daily ritual status twice a day. Like, that's. That's crazy when people tell me that, I'm like, I knew if you tried it, it would change your life that much. It's making people feel incredible. Okay, so I was just laughing with my assistant about the fact that when you have a podcast, like, there's not days off, there's not weeks off. Like, I'm recording this the day before it's going out. And there's days where I'm like, I do not know what I'm going to talk about or what the fuck I'm going to tell these people right now, because I don't feel like I have it in me to be inspiring now. You probably feel that all of the time. I get it.
I do, too.
So I have to be so honest with you, and this is such a great podcast for this, because I Want to talk about, like, manifesting and staying in a great frequency when life just won't let up, like when life lifes you. So it is hard to talk about frequency and manifesting and staying in a good place when you feel under attack. And there's a lot of things that can actually make you feel this way, right? There's a lot of different things that can make your nervous system feel under attack. And so you've probably heard from a lot of different people in different companies that they have been sued by ambulance chasers. I feel like it's getting more frequent. But right now my company is literally getting sued by an ambulance chaser who's essentially just goes out to all of these companies and tries to see what they can do. And the thing is, it's annoying. It rocks your nervous system. It costs money. You must engage with a lawyer when this happens, which costs money. And so it takes time. And it also just disrupts everything. And it makes you freak out at first because you're like, what is happening? What's going on? Why you have to provide all of these documents? It just derails you and it makes your nervous system feel crazy. And the fact that I have recently. This is such a good reminder for all of you. Every single year. I'm really staying on top of all of my checkup. So I just got my skin checkup done and that all came back great. I have a, like a lump or whatever you call it in my thyroid and that I have to check on that every single year. And that's still doing great. So that's wonderful. But I went and I got a mammogram and I will tell you that I have to go and get two biopsies because we're not sure what it is in both my left and my right breast now. This is not fun. This is throwing my nervous system off. This is shaking my sense of control. This. This made me question everything. This is making me feel like life is not about just thinking positive and manifesting. Right? So I want to share this with you because what I did in the moment was something that I hope that you guys can access as well. And I want to share some things because this isn't just about thinking our way through and trying to be positive. This is about how to return to trust when your body or your business or your relationships feel threatened. Because it's life and life is going to life. You like this frequently, you guys. So it's not necessarily about just going into a great place right away. Obviously, that's like freaking impossible in some of these moments. But it is about how we can try to calm our nervous system down. So when something hits your health or your livelihood, your body literally goes straight into survival mode. Like fight, flight, freeze. For me, I just kind of like teared up. Like, I was like, oh my God. Your mind thinks of a million different scenarios of what could happen. And this isn't you, you know, being like, oh my God, I can't regulate my nervous system. This is human. This is like survival. And you can't get to a better place quickly, right? You can't create from panic. You can't regulate from panic super quickly. So sometimes you just have to start breathing. So the first thing to do is to kind of just see if you can stabilize your body. Like, hand on your heart, hand on your stomach. I like to just take some deep breaths. I like to let it be okay, whatever is coming up. I like to say to myself, okay, in this moment, I am safe, even if I don't believe it. Like sometimes just having those words, like maybe your body believes it, right? Like it's just about saying it over and over. And immediately for me, this is how I know God is so real, is my immediate reaction is to pray. It's immediately to talk to God and I immediately get my heart rate down. And you don't have to pray polished prayers ever, especially during these. I think praying honest prayers is the most important thing. So even saying God, I'm scared. I don't like this. I don't understand this. This is not weak faith. This is actually real faith is to say where you're really, really coming from. And also to stop asking for rescue, like, make this go away. Oh my God, why is this happening? Instead, something that I. I try to lean into is, hey, walk with me through this, like God, like, take my hand, whatever, whatever you can do right now to like comfort me, be with me in this, give me strength for this today. Because having that presence is going to help you completely shift your frequency faster than feeling like you're wishing it away or being mad about it or control ever will. This is for me. This is for me personally, and I hope this helps. So for overwhelm, I often say something like, God, I give you what I can't control or take the wheel. Like, I can't take this today. You literally need to take over. But show me the next small step. So if you have health, fear, you could say, guide the hands of every doctor. Protect my body, give me peace while I wait. And if you're trying to really move into a better place without the feeling of freaking faking it. Trust me, I get it. Like, oh, I'm just gonna leap into a better thought right away. Like, that is not how I felt today at all. So I had to stop asking, why is this happening to me? And I had to go, okay, what is this? Like, what is this trying to show me? What could this build me into? Is there something that I need to be paying closer attention to? First of all, my health, Taking care of myself right now? Because these things, they're not just here to lower your frequency, you guys, and make you feel terrible. They're truly here to draw attention and bring more love into your life. I know that sounds insane, but it's here to build you up and let you know that maybe there were some things that you need to pay more attention to. So if you want, like, a daily little reset in the morning, you can literally just say, what is in my control today and what is not. Because what's not, I'm not going to worry about. I'm actually gonna write down what's not, and I'm gonna say, God, this is your list. This is your to do list. And you can give that away, like, surrender it up. Sometimes when I'm in meditation, I'll actually, like, picture the things that are weighing on me. And I'll put, like, a platter. I know this might be really weird to some of you, but I'm such a visual person. So some of you aren't visual, but if you are visual, this could help. I like, picture, like, putting it on a platter, like, literally, whatever the thing is. And I just kind of hold it up, and I'm like, this is for you. Like, I surrender it up. Like, this is not for me. I can't take this anymore. And I picture it just, like, being taken away. Like, being taken off my plate.
A lot of people end their workday wondering why some tasks take forever, why they procrastinate on certain projects, or why they don't feel confident in the work that they're doing. But here's the thing. That's not a character flaw. It's actually your wiring. Patrick Lencioni, author of the Five Dysfunctions of a Team, created the Working Genius assessment to help you identify the type of work you're actually built for and the work that you're not. And there's zero shame in that. More than a million people have taken it. And once you understand how you're wired, everything changes. Your confidence, your productivity, and the way that you show up at work. If you're a CEO, an entrepreneur, or just someone who wants to operate at your highest level, Working genius gives you the clarity to stop wasting time on things that drain you and double down on what you're naturally good at. It's not about fixing weaknesses. It's about leveraging strengths. Take the working genius assessment and get 20% off with code earn@working genius.com. that's working genius. Com. Stop guessing. You know that moment when a meeting
ends and someone says, let's remember to circle back on this next week. Everyone nods, but no one writes it down. And next week rolls around and everyone forgets. That's why Granola exists. Granola is an AI powered notepad built for the way real people actually meet. Here's how it works. You take rough notes like you normally would, and in the background, Granola securely transcribes the meeting. Then it turns everything into a clean, structured, actually useful notes when the meeting ends. And the best is that granola works through your device's audio, which means it integrates seamlessly into the video conferencing tools you already use. And there's no setup and there's no awkward bots. It's just your normal meeting with superpowers. So you get to actually listen instead of frantically typing every word and still walk away knowing exactly what was decided, who's doing what, and what comes next. And I have to tell you that before using Granola, my meetings were very much the classic entrepreneur chaos, where I jumped from mastermind calls to team meetings to partnerships, scribbling notes everywhere than spending extra time afterward trying to piece together action items or remember what we actually decided. So the first time I saw Granola's notes after a meeting, I was honestly shocked by how organized and complete everything was. It felt like getting my brain back. Now I can actually stay present in the conversation instead of worrying about capturing every single detail. So if you're in a season of big vision, big conversations, and a lot of moving parts, Granola makes sure nothing falls through the cracks. If meetings are eating up your day, Granola is a no brainer. You can try it totally free for three months. Just head to Granola AI forward, slash earn. That's Granola. AI forward, slash earn. So I hope that if you are in a storm right now that you can stop feeling bad about the fact that you feel bad and you can start asking for support and you can ask God, higher power, whatever it is that you believe. For me, it's God. You can say, I need your help. I need you to walk with me on this. I need you to give me the strength for this. I need you to take this off of my plate. And this is what is going to help you also compartmentalize. Because throughout this I just did a podcast on compartmentalizing, I think it was last week or week before. So they really go hand in hand, you guys. Because truly, like what can happen is you can spiral and think about all the things that could happen when, I don't know, in fact, best case scenario can absolutely happen and I believe that it will. And instead of spiraling, I'm going to compartmentalize and go, okay, I've done, I've done all I can. I've booked the appointments, I've taken precautions, I've taken all the right steps and now I'm going to compartmentalize and I'm going to go and do other things in my life and I'm gonna think amazing thoughts and I'm gonna go and have fun and take care of my health and talk to people if I need it and say big fat ass prayers. Fat ass prayers, you guys. That is what we need to be doing. So I'm sending you guys all the love. If you're in it right now, just know that everybody is in a version of a storm. And that's not to take away where you're at. That's not to take away the fact that you have every right to feel sad or to feel scared, but it is to let you know that you are so not alone. Like, the second that you share something like this with people, they're like, oh, my gosh, how can I help you? I've been through something like this. Or I can understand, but in a different way. Like, I'm here for you. Like, say big prayers, all the things. Like, lean in and know that you are so not alone in this journey. And this is such a human experience for you. And I'm sending you guys so much love. And I just. I just want you to know that I am here. It's. This is 10 years of this podcast, which is mind blowing. 10 years in March. I should probably plan a party. I probably should have planned some form of party. Maybe I'll do it in April. I had to think what came after March, you guys. That's pretty bad. Maybe I'll do it sometime in April. A 10th little party of some sort. Because that's a really big, big, big deal. So I'm grateful for you for showing up to this podcast and tuning in, and I'm sending you all the love. Until next time, earn your happy.
