How to Prevent Burnout in 2026 (Our Rituals to Recharge & Rest)
13 Jan 2026 · 20 min
Lori Harder and Chris Harder explain how to prevent burnout by building rituals that separate work from rest, and by choosing active recharge like exercise and hobbies over scrolling. They share examples: recharge walks, pickleball, art classes, weekly beach trips. Work ends when you stop thinking about it.

And we're back with another episode of.
He Said she said.
And before we get started, babe, spots are running out. High five. They can't see it, but smack spot running out really quickly for the elite entrepreneur Mastermind, which I'm not going to share how, but let's just say we made it better than ever. Times like a hundred compared to the other years which are already successful.
So much access.
But I will say this. I interview everybody one on one who considers coming in for the elite level Mastermind. Remember this is the one for anyone who has a business that's earning 500k or more. And so everybody shares with me why they're joining or why they're thinking about joining. And the number one trend that I've been getting this year is that people who have an already successful business are adding a second significant reaction revenue source, a second significant offshoot of their business. They're looking for one and they're coming to us because they've seen us do that so many times over the years. We have added brand new businesses from scratch, we've quickly offshoots, we've added pivots and they've seen us do it quickly. And so a person with a million dollar a month coaching business interviewed for the Mastermind and wanted to Join because she's seen us monetize a coaching business that's kind of attached to their million dollar a month other core business. Somebody else came in because they've seen how well we've done speaking on stages and launching books and they wanted to do that to add to their business that they had already. Someone else coming in has a really successful chain of chiropractic offices. But they wanted to build a consulting arm for chiropractors because they're like, hey, let's face it, most chiropractors are just good doctors, not good business people. And we've seen you guys add consulting arms so you can speed up how quickly your new revenue source is going to get off the ground by going and borrowing somebody else's experience. And that's exactly why they're coming to us for the elite level mastermind.
That's the thing about masterminds and rooms in general like this, especially our mastermind is that people go slow on these things on their own because they're worried about this, they're worried about that. They don't actually know what the clear plan is. They don't realize how simple this is. And that is what has sped up. Everything that we do is meeting people who are doing exactly what we want to do. And we're like, give us the plan, show us the map. Take all, you know, take the fears away that we would have. Like, let me ask you all the questions, let me put all my fears on the table. And then all of a sudden you can move. Half of the reason that most people and why you are probably not moving is you have these little fears in your head that you're not actually like getting the answers to. So I know this is so me, like, if I don't get every single fear kind of like crossed off in my head, I can't move quickly, I can't move forward. I feel like I can't progress the way that I want. And so these rooms take away all those fears because you're getting answers around them. You're getting all of the things that you would do if X happened. And so that's why people are able to move so fast in these rooms and get new revenue streams is for that reason.
So if you want us to give you the strategy, like a real strategy and take away the fear in order to increase your speed of starting your new revenue source, then right now hit pause and go to Chrishard me forward, slash mastermind and fill up the app really quick because there are not very many spots left we made it more intimate than ever this year, meaning way more hands on from Lori and I, our team, everybody else. So because of that, there's not many spots left right now. Go to Chrisharder Me. That's me, Mastermind. That's Chrisharder Me slash Mastermind Filthy app. And you and I will talk about if it's a good fit for your pivot or new revenue source or whatever you want to accomplish this year in your business.
All right, we are getting into the podcast, which has come because this morning I went on Recharge Walk. A recharge walk. You'll get that in a minute.
And make sure you say that clearly, by the way.
A recharge walk. I put on a podcast and I went to Lewis, how's podcast? And this title caught me how to detach from work before it destroys your life. I was like, yay, we could all use this. And there was a lot of great, juicy details within the. Within the title of that. And I got a couple great things out of this that I want to give you guys the Cliff Notes. So if you don't want to go listen to the 90 minute podcast, I'm going to give you the main thing that I got out of this. And when I came home and told Chris, so many pieces of the puzzle came together for us on just parts of our life where we felt really burnt out, and then other areas of our life where we're like, wait, why was that time in our life really, really us? And so I know that no matter how excited about your company or your job that you are, sometimes you can get really burnt out. And sometimes you can feel really ashamed as a founder because you're like, wait, this was my dream. Like, this is everything that I've ever wanted. I'm even working with great people. Or maybe you're not. And it's like, what are the things that make you feel recharged and what are the things that actually recharge you? How do we negate burnout? Whether it is a job that you love in a company that you love, or one that you hate, and the answers are actually the same. So the episode that I was listening to was with Dr. Guy Winch. It was on Lewis Howe's podcast, and he was talking about how your workday doesn't end when your workday ends. It ends when you stop thinking about it.
That's powerful, actually.
And so I thought of all of the times that I'm like, wow, I just never stop thinking about work. Like, I fall asleep thinking about it. And on the times that I do really well, where I kind of stop thinking about it, there's a couple things in place. And he was like, okay, well, what do you do? And he said, number one, you have to have a ritual that truly divides your workday. So he's like, of course you're going to struggle to, like, stop thinking about it immediately, but you and I try to book in the day with a walk. And he said, if you just stay home and, like, get on your couch and think that you're gonna go relax but not do something that says, this is where I'm gonna, like, shut my brain off and where I'm gonna transition. And I have a ritual around switching my brain into. This is where I let go of work and relax. So you and I go on a walk. Or you can also do. Maybe you could even do a ritual at home where it's, you know, we love to do the three wins. And you kind of, you know, he was talking about how some people get on the floor and play with their kids, or they're gonna be like, this is my unwind time. And to do something at home that transitions them from the work day into, like, consciously saying, this is where I play with my kids. This is where I go for my walk and do my three wins. This is where I shot work off and transition my brain into family time. Like, it's a choice that you talk about and you know that this is what you're doing.
Well, I think the most important thing is what you said. I want to make sure, sure people caught this. This is really good. Work doesn't end, let's say at 5 o' clock or 6 o' clock when your meetings are done. It ends when you find a way to distract your mind from thinking about work anymore. So this is. You guys get tired of me talking about pickleball this year, but I have been taking a couple pickleball lessons with a friend and an instructor per week. And then I've been going and playing lots of matches at the pickleball club on top of that, a few times a week. Here's why you can't possibly think about work. You can't possibly think about anything else.
And that is so important for your business.
Right? And when you're taking a lesson, it sounds like, oh, I'm tired, I don't want to go take a lesson. It's the opposite. It's. It fills you up with energy because you're learning something. If you're just sitting or scrolling on your Phone. You're not actually resting or recharging. You're learning something by going out and literally learning something. Another example is, you know, we'll go over the club at like 6 o' clock and we'll play for a couple of hours. And it is so much fun to move your body in a strenuous way to compete. And I think it's that you're competing so hard that it fulfills this need, especially in men, to get out there and compete. And you're thinking so quickly and you're moving so quickly that you're not possibly thinking about work anymore. So what hobby? What can you find to learn? What kind of healthy, productive distraction can you find instead of thinking that sitting around or doing nothing is going to recharge you? Because it's actually not.
Okay. So that is the perfect segue to bring us into the next point, which is relaxing is only 50% of the equation of not being burnt out and actually liking your life. The other 50% is recharging. And recharging is not relaxing. Recharging is doing something that you enjoy, that's active, that makes your brain active. Like scrolling. And relaxing is not actually recharging. Have you ever had a weekend? I've had plenty where I'm like, I'm just gonna relax. I sit on the couch, I scroll, I research things on the intern. But it's like, I never, ever feel better. Like, I'm just like, I need another day, I need another two days. Like, I never feel like that satisfaction of deep fulfillment. And like, wow, that was a really great weekend. Even when I'm relaxing, it's like, I, yes, it's nice, but when I'm recharging, doing something that I enjoy, like taking a beach walk with a friend, going and doing something artsy, going and doing something and moving my body, I love taking lessons. I love learning something new, whether it's a pickleball lesson, a golf lesson, an art class, a pottery class. Like, that is so deeply recharging to my soul that a lot of you forgot what it could even make you recharge. You don't even know. And I get this for a lot of people who have kids like, that can be challenging to fit in some recharging things into your life. But is there one evening or is there one Saturday that you could go and do something that really fills you up, where you're using your brain, you're using that part of you that you've kind of turned off that you used to love, and you know, they talk about how it's less about discovering and more about trying to remember what you liked. Like when you were a kid, like what were you like, what did you enjoy? Where did you get lost for hours, like going and trying to like recreate that in your life now. And Chris, I've, I've watched you turn into a different person. There's a couple different things you're doing, but I would say the biggest one is take a wall.
Well, here's what else you know how.
Much sleep affects everything from your mood, your energy and you hear me talk about this with skin all the time. But let's be really honest. Unwinding at night for entrepreneurs and anyone who's listening to this podcast is probably pretty challenging because we love to replay the day and think of our big goals and all of the things that we want and need to be doing the next day. That's why my nighttime routine has become a non negotiable and it's become super sacred to me. And I've been using OSEA products and their Dream collection has completely up leveled how I wind down at night. Their Dream Night Serum and their Dream Night Cream are clinically tested formulas powered by bioretinol and they're designed to reduce the visible effects of stress on your skin while you sleep, which I really need right now. I wake up feeling like my skin actually got to rest. It feels softer, it feels smoother and it feels really nourished. And as someone who struggles with really dry skin, I love how rich and creamy these feel without being heavy. So my nightly wind down ritual isn't just about skin skincare, it's about creating a sense of serenity at the end of the day. So it's choosing products that work while you sleep and this helps me slow down, settle in and take care of myself because skincare really is self care and I am also obsessed with the scent of these and I'm excited to share that OSEA just launched their newest product in the Dream Collection, the Dream Bioretinol Body Serum, which is a full body overnight treatment that visibly de stresses the skin with a blend of bioretinol, red seaweed, magnesium and and lavender. Which is why I love the smell. It helps reduce visible dryness and dullness, improves elasticity and leaves your skin feeling softer and smoother by the morning. This is absolutely becoming a core part of my body care routine in 2026. So give your skin a rest with clean clinically tested skincare from oca. It's not resting your brain that you think you need.
Yep. It's.
It's recharging your brain by using it in a way that brings you joy. So this is interesting. When I had my stroke, I started to have all those brain challenges, right? Yeah. Everything from unexplained depression to I couldn't put thoughts together anymore. I couldn't finish sentences. And so I started going to therapy, but then I also started going to CRT therapy. So that where she said, hey, you gotta start playing these certain brain games in order to get it firing again. Typically, like, discipline it to get back to thinking quickly. And one of them was Sudoku. And I found, wait, I really like sitting here playing this on my phone. So it's replaced. Scrolling for me. You know, first it turned out just to be for therapy to get my brain going again, like, exercising it like a muscle. But now it's turned out whenever I grab my phone and want to scroll, I'm like, nope, I'm going to open sudoku and play a game or two because it's such a challenging numbers game that you're unable to think about anything else. So I'm not resting my brain. I'm using it quite actively, but I'm using it in a way. It's like, feels like you're solving a puzzle. Right. So it brings me. It allows me to use my brain in a way that feels like I'm solving a problem. Yeah.
Even you and I have, like, we did a. You know, we did games during the holiday, during Christmas, but then we just had a friend over and we played games. And when I look back at the weekends, I was like, oh, I actually feel like I had a weekend and I recharged because we did some fun things. We saw some people, we went some places. I've really been trying hard to get down to the beach at least once a week. I know that sounds crazy. We literally live by a beach. But if you ask most people who live here, they actually don't. We walk by the water, but we don't actually go on the sand because it's almost like, you can take it for granted, but everything is different down by the water, literally, once you get to the water. And today I was like, okay, what would be really recharging for me? I was like, I'm gonna call a friend. We're gonna go grab a coffee, we're gonna go down to the water, we're going to, like, go take a walk, we're going to recharge. We're going about something like, that's exciting to both of us. And that felt so good. Like, you know, our plans were to just go to a coffee shop and chat. And I was like, do you ever get to the water? Like, let's both go down. Like, let's go somewhere that's fun where we don't normally go.
So listen, I'm getting the feedback, guys. I know it's going to be a challenging year. I know a lot of you have big goals. I know a lot of you have headwinds. I know that the economy has shifted. I know that the way that we sell and market has shifted. I know that 2026 is exciting. And also because it's exciting means that you're going to have a lot on your plate. If you're going to make it through a tough year hitting big goals, you're going to have to choose to replace old habits where you think you're resting with new habits where you're learning or you're having fun or you're challenging in order to get the true recharging that you are after. And if you do that, then it's going to be twice as easy and it's going to happen twice as quickly for you. You have twice the energy and twice the enjoyment, I promise, while you chase down your goals this year.
So we're so excited to hopefully work with you guys as well through all of this. So if you are like, you know what? I don't want to do this year alone, like last year, I grew, but at what cost? And it was lonely and it went slower. Like, let's move quicker, let's move fast. Let's actually have fun together. Let's get to know your business. And I believe that you can make this a really beautiful, fun, recharging year of massive growth with more income.
It's interesting you bring that up because when you join our elite level mastermind, we have you take a survey when you start, and we have you take a survey throughout it, and we end the year with the same survey. And you're actually going in and recording all these different aspects, not just in your business, but where you're at with your mental health, where you're at with your relationships, your fun, all that, and we move the needle on all the things because we measure what matters. So now that this thing's wrapped up, rush over to Chrisharter, Me forward slash, Mastermind. Fill out the app, and we'll have a zoom together. That's Chrisharder, Me Mastermind.
Thanks for listening, and we'll see you next week.
