How To Shorten The Distance To Your Biggest Desires
5 Jan 2023 · 13 min
Lori Harder explains how to close the gap between where you are and what you want by noticing your unconscious thoughts and deliberately replacing them with new ones paired with gratitude. She draws on Joe Dispenza's work on brain waves and feeling the outcome before it happens, then walks through three concrete steps: identify your core negative beliefs, write new thoughts as if they've already come true, and sit in the feeling of having what you want.

You need all of your people around you, right? You need an incredible group of people who are going to remind you of who you can be, not who you were. You want to go into the groups of the people who remind you who you can be, not who you are. Hey, everyone. Welcome back to the show. It's time for another quickie because there's always time to fit in. Inspiration. You know what I did this morning? I woke up and I journaled for my second day in a row. So proud of myself. And the reason that this is happening, because I am not really a fan of journaling, is because I am on the girls Day app, journaling. And I love it. It is gamified. It has all these different prompts. It asks me if I want some reflective questions or if I want to talk about my morning or my evening or it just really is one of the coolest things that I have done in a very long time. Definitely go check it out. It's on the Growth Day app, you guys. It's in the show notes. And I absolutely am obsessed. Not just that I do teach in the Growth Day app once a month. It's the only place I'm teaching right now, which is so fun and so cool. It's a massive community. If you feel like you don't have a community, this is the place that you want to be. And I'm telling you, there's incredible teachers like Trent Shelton, Lisa Bilyeu, Jenna Kutcher. Did we mention Brendon Burchard? Because he's essentially the person at the beginning on my journey who really taught me how to have an online business. Of course, I had other mentors as well. But I am telling you, his coaching was so huge for me and he's probably the person that I have most admiration for around his energy and how he shows up in life. So, you guys, I know that I want to be in that atmosphere and if you want to know what the next level looks like, I'm telling you, get in his atmosphere. So go to the Growth Day app and check that out and I'll be journaling every single day in there. So I also share it on my stories. Not exactly what I all journal, but I'm sharing that I'm doing it. So today is a good one, guys, because I listened to the Ed Mylett and Joe Dispenza podcast and oh, my God, in pure Joe Dispenza fashion, my mind was absolutely blown. He's one of my absolute favorite teachers about just the quantum field and manifesting and you guys, what is possible with our minds? We know this, right? If you're listening to this podcast, you know what's possible. It's just about the gap in between those goals. So what we want to do today is to shorten the distance from where you are to what you want. Okay, Are you ready? I'm gonna give you the Cliff Notes. So what I really want you to do is go over when you have time. Cause it's a longer one. When you have time, go over and listen to the full episode with Ed Mylett and Joe Dispenza. That's all you gotta do is go search it. You're gonna love it. But today, I want to give you the Cliff Notes of how to shorten the distance from where you are to where you wanna go. And they were talking so much about, obviously, the brain and our brain, where we're at right now, many of us, how we're wired, would rather cling to suffering. He says we'd rather cling to suffering than take a chance in possibility. And that one hit me square between the eyes. Because how many of the things in your life are you choosing to continue to suffer because of the unknown? And every time I've taken a leap into the unknown, I have always gotten something better than my current reality. So Joe Dispenza talks a lot about the brain waves. He talks about how for a lot of the times, we are in beta, right, and we want to get to theta. And beta is more of a survival brain. It's more just like, I gotta do this, I gotta go here, I gotta get this done. I gotta do that. It's very task oriented, but theta is very creative. It's very much like in flow. So I'm going to read you a little bit about beta waves. So beta waves are alertness, concentration, and thinking. And then it actually goes in between that to alpha waves, which is meditation, creativity, relaxation. And then theta is visualization, trance, and dreaming. And theta waves can happen when you get beyond yourself. Oh, my God. What the heck does that mean? All I know is that I want to get there. It's when we stop allowing our external environment to affect us and control us. And this can only be done. We can only allow our external environment to stop controlling us when we take time every day to sit in the feeling that we actually desire. So how do we choose to get in the feeling of what we actually want instead of where we're at? Well, this is only gonna happen if we become conscious of the unconscious. You're like, what the Heck, if I have these unconscious thoughts, how am I ever gonna get conscious of them? The unconscious thoughts are who you think you are. The unconscious thoughts are your personality. Right now, there are people I know that I said this when I was listening to the podcast. I was like, this is who I am. You have a set personality right now that you think that you are. Except that personality is only a set of choices that you have chosen in the past that you repeatedly chose over and over because you saw your parents choose it, or you had someone tell you who you were supposed to be, or you saw this pattern within your family, and you chose it so much that it has become so familiar to you that you make sure that you continue to make these choices to get that familiar feeling, right? To get that familiar feeling. So in the beginning, I told you we would rather. Our brains would rather cling to the known suffering, right? Because that's familiar. And we might as well just identify our personality with suffering, right? Instead of take a chance and possibility. So the only way to get past this is to become conscious of our unconscious thoughts and patterns that are controlling us every single day, AKA our personality. Oh, I'm tired. I'm this. I'm an introvert. I'm an extrovert. I don't speak up for myself. I don't have boundaries. I'm not good at that. I'll never be that. Those are just patterns that you choose over and over, you know, I was on stage speaking at an event recently, and it was to a bunch of women who wanted to do what we were up on stage doing. They wanted to be speakers, they wanted to be authors. And the woman putting on the event had never done an event before. And she was talking about how, you know, before I did this event, I had never done an event. Like, I had never been like someone who puts on events. There is a moment in time where we look at people and we say, well, that's who they are. But what they did is they chose to do something that broke conditioning and changed their personality forever. Right before I put on the Bliss Project, which was an event that I used to do every single year with 500 women from all around the world. And before I did that, I was so afraid to speak in public. I really believed that I was someone who could never, ever get on stage and do that. I thought I would pass out or die. I don't know. And you guys, I started to choose the thought that I can do this. So here's a couple things that I want to share with you. When you're becoming aware of your unconscious patterns, like right now, you're like, okay, I'm aware that. Am I willing? First of all, you have to be willing, right? Be willing to say, this personality that I currently am right now is not actually me. It's chosen thoughts and feelings that I choose every single day. And when I start to get to the unfamiliar, I go back to create something to get back these familiar feelings. And most often it's sabotage and suffering, right? And a lot of times sabotage and suffering also has to do with staying connected to our tribe because maybe we fear we won't be accepted if we change. So first of all, understand that you are not who you think you are. You are actually not your personality. Because in a year, if you decided to start choosing different thoughts, you'd be a different person, then you'd have a different personality. And Joe Dispenza says when you change your personality, you change your reality. And I could tell you if you met me 10 years ago, you would not probably like me because I very easily was negative. And I actually really loved connecting through negativity. It's what I knew. Maybe I didn't love it, but it's all I knew. So I guess I did, right? It's what I chose. So you wouldn't be listening to me right now because I would be telling you about how rich people are assholes and how motivational people are annoying and how I got the short end of the stick. Okay, maybe not 10 years ago, that would have been 20 years ago. But for real, you guys, your personality is not you. So this is, number one, realizing that your personality is not you.

The next step is to start having thoughts. Start seeing where you catch these unconscious thoughts. And it doesn't matter if you catch them. If you don't have something to replace them with. This is where this is really important.
So.
So I would write down some of the main thoughts that are coming up cause you can't do them all at once. You have a million negative thoughts a day, right? But I guarantee there are two or three that are really controlling you for the most part. So write down those thoughts that you know are the ones that are like your Achilles heel every day. I'm overweight. I don't like who I am. I'm not Smart enough, whatever those thoughts are, you must create a new thought from the future that you're going to choose to feel. And if you're like, what the actual fuck are you talking about? I get it. Truly, you guys, you're going to just grab on to a feeling that you want, a thought that you want. So instead of I'm overweight, it's I'm in a healthy, fit body that's making progress every single day. And this is gonna be the thought that you insert now whenever you catch the thought, oh, I'm overweight, I don't feel good, you're gonna put this new thought in. If you don't have a consistent new thought that you actually allow yourself to feel, this is important. You must have the new thought. So once you write down the past thought that is holding you back, I'm overweight, I don't feel good. You're now going to write down underneath it, just so you have your reminders. Cause you want these go to thoughts. You're gonna write that thing underneath it. I'm gonna fit healthy body that's making progress every single day. I feel amazing. You're going to put that thought in, but you're also simultaneously going to take 30 seconds to a minute, for starters, to feel it. Now, here is what blew my mind in this Joe Dispenza podcast. Listen to this sentence, you guys. He says, if you can feel the gratitude for the thing before you have it, that is how you close the gap into possibility of what you want. Listen to me. If you can feel the gratitude for the thing before you have it, that's the secret sauce that closes the gap. So what I want you to do is I want you to feel, feel it frequently. And what you wanna do is every single day, see if you can just sit a little bit longer. A little bit longer in the feeling, right? A little bit longer in the feeling. And this works with anything. This works with your vision board, this works with your goals, this works with I wanna make a million dollars a year. Awesome. How much can you sit in the gratitude for that million dollars a year, every single day? How much can you feel it? Not just feel it in what you would be doing, but how much can you just ooze with gratitude? This is where he really talks about how. This is how you get aligned with it. This is where you get brain and heart cohesion. And listen to the podcast, you guys, so that you can totally understand what I'm saying. But this is the how. So even if you just do this, this is completely going to change your life. And he talks a lot about how when you're trying to change your personality, it's gonna feel like rehab for your personality. You are going to be like detoxing from who you were and it's going to feel like shit. It's not going to feel real, you guys. It's going to be like, oh, my God, I am having withdrawals. I miss who I was. It was way more comfortable. I don't even know how to be this new version. But you're just going to keep choosing. And just like rehab, you need all of your people around you, right? You need an incredible group of people who are going to remind you of who you can be, not who you were. You want to go into the groups of the people who remind you who you can be, not who you are. All right, you guys, I'm sending you so much love. Don't forget this. If you can feel the gratitude of the thing before you have it, that closes the gap. And this is how you shorten the distance from where you are to where you want to be. Sending you so much love, you guys. And go to the growth day app. I'm telling you, you can write this all down there. You can do it all in there because there is so many things. It's a one stop sh for all of your personal development. I hope that I get to see you in that group because that community is insane. And like I said, I am going to get in the atmospheres of the people who I want to emulate. That's how that works. So I'm in there. Like I said, there's incredible teachers in there. But Brendon Burchard, literally my energetic icon, is in there. You'll see what I mean. Go check it out. Until next time, earn your happy. Bye, everyone. It.
