No One's Coming To Save You, Here's How To Save Yourself
25 Jul 2023 · 18 min
Chris and Lori Harder talk about drowning in overwhelm and what actually helps. Write down everything weighing on you, do the easiest tasks first to build momentum, ask specific people for specific help, and inventory what you already have instead of fixating on what's missing.

When you take action and start saving yourself smallest actions first, working your way up to the biggest actions, you'll be able to pull yourself out of Overwhelm and push yourself into momentum in no time at all.
And we're back with another episode of He Said, she Said.
Guys, today we're going to talk about Overwhelm and that nobody is coming to save you. And we're talking about because both of us have our hands in so many important projects. Plus, keep keeping up family. Right. Gotta make sure you see family enough. Plus keeping up friends, plus keeping up fitness, which I'm really proud of us, by the way. I think we're both like, nailing it in that category. It's a lot. And I know you have your versions that feel like a lot. Before we get into Overwhelm, though, I hope that you guys listened to our podcast with Dean Graciosi that just came out.
If you didn't, he's so good.
Go back, listen to it. We feel so lucky to be able to call him a friend and to be able to learn from him, like in person, over dinner. And we really just created this new tradition of talking to him when he's at his lake house. And we're at our lake house each summer. We've done it about two years in a row now. And really the whole thing just points you towards a free five day training on how to take control of your life. Talk about, you know, avoiding Overwhelm with the best teachers. Yeah. So not just him, it's also Tony Robbins, it's also Trent Shelton, it's also Chalene Johnson. I'm trying to remember. I'm going off my memory. Well, like literally the best of the best for five days. And it's an act of service. They started doing this about three, four years ago and they've done it every single year as an active service. And they teach you how to start your own online business, how to market better, how to take control of your life. If you go just for the mindset, just for the mindset training, you know, it's an hour a day for five days. Big deal. It's like getting a recharge, like getting an oil change, only you're getting a mind oil change. It's worthwhile.
I will tell you. They bring it every single year. These speakers bring it because not only are they speaking in front of obviously their top peers and pouring their hearts out to you and wanting to make a really huge impact, but also, you guys, this particular challenge brings millions of people. So, I mean, there is a reason that millions of people get on this. It's because it's needed. And we all need these mindset shifts. And every time Chris and I go to one of these trainings, we get something out of it. So you have to start looking at all that you do. Like, there is ROI on learning, and if you don't go and do that, then there's a reason why you're not getting the ROI that you want. And of course, it doesn't happen right away, typically, but it's like adding and stacking all of these things up. It's the same reason you listen to these podcasts is because a lot of these different nuggets that we say or that different guests say, these are the things that you have to have in your toolbox to make more money, to be the person who other people want to network, to be the magnet, to be in the energy where, you know, we always talk about people aren't paying just for your product at all. They're paying for your energy, your belief, and your certainty. So if you're not feeling energy, belief and certainty, ain't nobody buying anything from you. And it's probably because you need to go plug into it.
Amen. So go plug in. Get filled up, get recharged. It's like being at a live event, only you don't have to leave your house. And it's totally free. If you go to future350.com that is future350.com seriously, hit pause. Go to future350.com register. Enjoy. Dean, Tony, Chalene, Trent, everybody else for five days, totally free. Okay, so that'll help release some of the overwhelm, because a lot of overwhelm comes from finances for some people. A lot of overwhelm comes from biting off too much, like too many little projects instead of concentrating on one project. For many people, a lot of overwhelm comes from unresolved things with friends or family. Right? You haven't spoken your piece or set up boundaries. Overwhelm almost comes from all areas at all times. And it's just going to be a fact of life and the complementary fact of life to the fact that overwhelm will always be a fact. Is this. No one's coming to save you. No one's coming to save you. But you can save yourself with some moves that are probably a little more simple than what you feel like right now. So let's try and unpack that and let's try and relieve some overwhelm for some people.
So I think the first thing for me, I just want. I really want to describe this feeling so you guys know that you're not alone. And it comes in different times, it comes in different ways. But the feeling that I'm getting right now because I have a lot on my plate, much like you guys, in different ways. And the feeling that I had today at the gym, which the one good thing was, Lori, you're at the gym, like, okay, just. You can only do one thing at a time. But the feeling is like I feel like I'm drowning or flailing, and I feel like I don't have the power to help myself. I feel like I'm looking externally at things that I can be upset with or blame. I feel like sometimes it feels better to stay in the why things aren't working and why this is too much and why I'm not going to be successful. It's really a crazy, spiraling out, domino effect of you start feeling overwhelmed and then you start thinking of why something won't work and why your life isn't conducive to this new goal and all of these different things that just keep getting you stuck and stuck and stuck. And you're like, I feel bad. And now I just want to cry. So then you can start crying and you just go down this rabbit hole and it's a very real thing. And no one escapes this, no matter how far along the success road that you are. I just want to share, like, these are totally normal feelings. It's what you do when you're in them that is going to make you successful or not. So today, one of the things was I was witnessing myself having almost like this inner temper tantrum and this inner, like, I just need help. I just need someone to do this. I just need this to be gone. I need my family to understand this. I just need to say this. I need to all of these things all at once and every day, every category in my life. And I was like, okay, nobody is going to come and save me right now. I have to be the person who can emotionally start sorting through this and know that this is a normal feeling. So the first thing that I did this morning was just say, this is normal and you can feel it. I asked Chris, I said, hey, I just need to voice some things out loud to you that I feel really, like, crazy and upset over. And I know they're not real, but I need to voice them because they feel very real to me right now. So I just went down this list of all of the reasons why I felt crazy. And even saying them out loud, I was like, these aren't big deals. I can be allowed to feel this way because it's a lot. And that's a very valid emotion. But as I started saying them out loud, I was like, okay, this is a. Sorry, guys. There's a random, like, rainstorm out of this sunny day that's totally cool. It's living in the Midwest and like, oh, it's raining while it's sunny. Great. But I think acknowledging first going, this is a very normal part of this journey. And also one of the main things for me that I do when I feel this way is just go walk or get a workout and also say it out loud.
Well, not only that, you have to understand that if you have big dreams, if you desire more than the average person, if you're taking on a lot of things, if you're designed to be a top performer, you're probably going to feel this more often than someone who's just coasting through life. They'll have overwhelm in different ways, but it's a different level of overwhelm when you have a different level of goal setting and dreaming of a life that is better than average. And so to Lori's point, what she just said, you have to first acknowledge that there's nothing wrong with you. You're not broken and you're not worthy. All it is is normal for the things to pile up and make you feel a bit overwhelmed. So Lori gave you her first step. My second step is this. You sit down and you start writing a to do list. And I mean a physical one. A physical to do list of everything that feels like you have to get done. It could be like everything from as small as fold the laundry to as big as have tough conversation with so and so and everything in between. Now here's the trick. To start feeling better, you write everything down that you gotta do. Then you rewrite it in order of the easiest, fastest things to do to the toughest things to do. And then you start attacking that list, doing what is the equivalent to Dave Ramsey's debt snowball, where you pay off the smallest debts first and then you take that money you were paying on that and you put it towards the next bigger one and exper. Well, same thing with the to do list. To get rid of the overwhelm, you start with the smallest, fastest tasks first. And then when one gets done, you redirect the energy to the next biggest task. Get that one done, redirect the energy to the next Biggest task. And you work your way through that list in that order because you're going to find by the end of the first day, like, whoa, feeling organized. And look how many things I got done. And I've got a clear view of what I got to do next.
Action cures anxiety and overwhelm every time. And so for me today I was like, this is all coming because I don't have a solid plan in a couple of areas. And so when I wake up that day, I don't have it in my calendar of exactly what I want to do in certain areas that are causing me anxiety. So when I get that in the calendar and I take action, I immediately feel better. Like, I just got off of a mentorship phone call where I was being mentored on this new product that I'm launching and it helped me to create a plan. So the first thing was, let's just get this phone call done. Let's have this person help me create this plan around this thing that's causing me anxiety and then get it in the calendar. So I see it and I know that I'm going to be doing this on this day and it's going to eventually get me the results that I want. So for me, my overwhelm always stems from a root of I don't have a plan around something or I want to be doing something and I don't remotely have a plan or an idea around it.
Yep, absolutely.

The third step you can do is this. I'm a big list maker, but I'm telling you it works. You make it. Now remember we said no one's come to save you, but there are people that can help you save yourself. Yes, Right? Someone that can answer this question for you, teach you this one thing real quick, whatever it might be, or even help watch your kids or watch your dogs or something like that, right? So you make your next list and that list is of who you need to help save yourself and what is your one specific ask of them? Again, it might be real simple. Mom, can you watch the dogs? Friend, can you watch the kids? So and so could you just teach me how to do this Facebook ad? Right? Make your list of who's going to help you save yourself and your one specific ask of each of them and then you start asking.
I love that. I think that these are the first, most important steps that you guys can do right now. And as Chris was saying, start at the top of that list with the easy ones. When people start with the real biggies, let me tell you, it's too big of a mountain to climb, and it doesn't make you feel progress and the way to get momentum, because momentum is the most important thing. We just were listening to a podcast this morning talking about how in the beginning, you need to experience what it feels like to feel momentum.
Yep.
And momentum is going to be felt when you start with the easy things that you know that you can do every single day. So just start with those easy ones. Start feeling what it feels like to let your head hit the pillow at night and having had done something for that day that moved you a little bit closer to something, and that's how you're going to start gaining momentum. And these things will just start to feel more habitual and it'll make the big things seem a lot easier.
Yeah. Yep. And then one more thing you can do again. I'm a big list maker, but these work. Sit down and write a list of everything that you do have in your favor. A lot of times when you feel overwhelmed or unprepared to take on whatever's in front of you, it's because you're concentrating on what you don't have or what you don't know instead of what you have and what you know. And so you sit down, you make a list, a very unapologetic list of all your assets in life. And I don't just mean financial assets that might make the list, but I mean your assets. Like, I'm good at this, or this is already going well, or I have momentum here, or I've got this person to help me, or I've got this past experience, or I've got this money in the bank, or I've got this available amount on this line of credit that I could throw at this problem, whatever it is. You make a list of all the different types of assets that you have in your advantage so that you can see just how well equipped you are in order to tackle what is in front of you. Because we spend way too much time when we're overwhelmed focusing on the two or three things that we think we're missing and we don't know where to find them. Instead of focusing on the 20 or 30 things that you have going in your favor that are little mini head starts that could be the win behind your Sales and push you forward.
Oh, my God. That was me today. I was so focused on making this launch plan so big that I got on the phone, talked to somebody who had done it before, and they really helped me just be like, nope, let's just erase that all. And you're gonna focus on these three things, and this is what you're gonna do. So mine today was find somebody. My first thing to help myself was find someone who's done it, you know, and really get focused on a few things that you can do.
I love that. So hopefully you guys understand at this point, totally normal. The bigger you dream, the bigger your overwhelms going to feel. Sometimes it doesn't make you weird, it doesn't make you broken, it doesn't make you alone. Know that all of your peers are having moments of the same type of feelings, sometimes at the same time. But there's something you can do about it yourself. No one's going to come and take it away. No one's going to come and save you. When you sit around waiting for someone to come and save you, you prolong the problem and you prolong the overwhelm. When you take action and start saving yourself smallest actions first, working your way up to the biggest actions, you'll be able to pull yourself out of overwhelm and push yourself into momentum in no time at all.
You guys, I hope that this helped. I hope that you go to future350.com and just literally go tap in to people who are in the energy of momentum and inspiration and go get some nuggets that literally help move you forward. Because if you're in a place where you are feeling uninspired or unmotivated, because that happens all the time as a human, week to week, day to day, it's really important that you go and plug in. That's why we all need each other. That's why you need these podcasts. So go plug in. Chris and I would be plugging into that as well. Well, because those are definitely people who are out in the world that we want to be learning from, who always help us grow our business and move things forward. So go check it out. And until next time, we will see you next week.
Thanks for listening. Love it. Appreciate you.
Bye, everyone.
Sam.
