Personal Branding Strategy: How to Stand Out, Get Seen & Grow Your Business
23 Apr 2026 · 25 min
In this monologue‑style episode of the Earn Your Happy podcast, host Lori Harder breaks down the essential ingredients of an undeniable personal brand. She argues that a successful brand must be built on four pillars—clarity, conviction, courage, and consistency—while also embracing audacity and authentic intention. Harder shares personal anecdotes about her own struggle with people‑pleasing, over‑editing content, and the evolution of her book title, illustrating how lack of clarity and fear of judgment can stall growth. She highlights the power of bold, unapologetic messaging, citing Leanne Lopez Mosley’s $23 million‑year conviction and her own "rich girl" content that, despite criticism, attracted high‑paying clients. Drawing inspiration from Oprah’s focus on intention, Harder stresses that brands should serve a higher purpose rather than chase likes. She outlines practical steps: craft crystal‑clear messaging, speak with conviction, address uncomfortable truths, and maintain top‑of‑mind consistency through frequent, authentic engagement. The episode also promotes upcoming live events in Newport Beach (May 9 and June 13) co‑hosted with Stephanie Gambetta, and includes sponsor reads for Granola, Shopify, Indeed, and Rella.

I can tell how successful your personal brand is gonna be by how much you are still trying to be liked and by how either vanilla or audacious your content is. You are the only person that is deciding how you're showing up. There are going to be people who think that you are rude and braggy, and there are people who are going to say, thank you for showing up this way and giving me permission to do the same so I can finally live a fucking life that I want. Hey everyone, welcome back to the show. It's time for another quickie because there's always time to fit in inspiration. And if by the off chance you are listening this right away, I will be hosting an event in Newport. I am going to be hosting with The Loop founder Stephanie Gambetta, and we are combining our powers and our companies so that we can create community, and we are so insanely excited about it. That is May 9th in Newport Beach. Click the link below if you want to join us for that. That is going to be an amazing event at the luxurious Pendry Hotel. We're gonna have some awesome vendors with some of my favorite pop-up shops. You guys, you will not want to miss this day. Again, we'll have glossy flowing mimosas and really fun connection with people. If you've ever been to an event with me as a host, I will make sure that you do not feel awkward. And that you also connect with people and have some great conversations and get some questions answered that maybe you're gonna come with some things that you need in your life, some connections that you really, really want. So I'm very excited about this. So go scroll down and I would love to see your face. You guys, today I wanna talk about a successful personal brand and what actually goes into that. Now, to me, a successful personal brand should mean that your core values are so clear that you're someone who could actually pivot into anything that they want. You should be able to create different offshoots for all of the different things that you want to be doing and all of your different personality traits that you have and things that you're interested in. I'm not saying this is going to be all at once, but you should be able to really focus on learning how to create a brand that goes so deep that no matter what you wanna sell, no matter how you wanna pivot, it's not seen as left field, but it feels like a natural extension of exactly who you are. You are. Now, I really truly feel like I can tell exactly how successful your personal brand is going to be by looking at your Instagram or the things that you're putting out online. And I wanna be the first person to say that, like, I am the most guilty of this. I am the living, breathing test of learning how to show up more myself. And so I can tell how successful your personal brand is gonna be by how much you are still trying to be liked. And by how either vanilla or audacious your content is. Now, if you've ever written a caption 5 times, if you've ever recorded videos a million times, if you've ever continued to go back to your posts and soften your opinion over and over and over because you're like, oh my God, this person could say this, this group of people is gonna take this totally wrong. This isn't gonna, like, this is gonna really trigger some people. I get it, I am that girl who does that over and over. And then I go back and I go, okay, how do I really feel? Who do I really wanna talk to? Obviously I have some constraints on there 'cause it's not like I'm showing up on platforms intentionally to piss people off. Yes, that is some people's methods. That is not what my nervous system wants or desires. So I want to be really making sure that I am showing up in a way that is real. That if you're my girlfriend, like, and we go have a cocktail, I'm gonna tell you the truthy goodness of a couple things. Like, I want to be that version of me. And if everything we're doing is filtering through, oh, this group's going to be upset, that one's going to be triggered, this one won't like this, so all of a sudden your opinion doesn't even exist, or the thing that you know could actually help drive home the point, help people feel more unapologetic and give them the permission to actually start saying, doing, and being the person that they want to be out in the world, then let me tell you, you don't have a personal brand. You just post content. There's a ceiling on your brand. If this is what you're doing, it means you're never going to grow past it. So you guys know I am all about talking about audacity. I literally got it tattooed on my arm because I am so aware that our life will literally only grow to the level of audacity that we are willing to have. Think of it as courage, whatever you want. But there are two different meanings of being audacious. There is the meaning of really embodying it in a positive way where it's like, whoa, that is like audacious. Like she goes and says and gets what she wants. And then depending on who you ask, you could have done the same thing and show somebody in a different area of the world and they could say that was rude. I can't believe how braggy this person is. And pending on your translation is how you will live your life and how life will meet you. That's it. There's no in-between. There are going to be people who think that you are rude and braggy, and there are people who are going to say, thank you for showing up this way and giving me permission to do the same so I can finally live a fucking life that I want. You are the only person that is deciding how you're showing up. And I truly believe it's your intention behind it. You know, I used to love to watch the Oprah Show and listen to Oprah podcasts, and she really, really, really— one of her main things that she talks about in her life that's been a North Star is her intention. And meaning no matter what she has put out in the world, before it goes out, she holds the intention of, I'm doing this because I want to be able to help people, I want to be able to free people. It's not like a, I'm sticking it to this person or I just want likes or comments. It's like, no, this is for the higher purpose of freeing people from this prison that they have put themselves in, or thinking that they need to people-please. And so whatever you do, if you can take a little second to just be like, let me hold the intention. What is the intention? And would I need to edit this if my intention truly was to free people and let them stop finally caring about what everyone thinks? Because the people who are judging you aren't paying you ever. Anyone who judges you or who is rude to you, they are not paying you. So why in the world do you care about them the most? Why are you caring about them the most? They're actually robbing you. And the more that you edit your opinion, the more that you give them all of your power. So One of the reasons personal brands fail is because you're trying to sound smart and you're trying to sell to your peers instead of sounding clear for the audience that you need to help. There was this whole, like, timeline of people who— and trust me, I was one of them. I mean, look at the name of my book. I'm so pissed. If I could go back and change one thing, like, I would go back and change the name of my book. Like, what is— what the fuck is A Tribe Called Bliss? Like, What does that even mean? What is that helping? Like, the tagline is understandable, but my God, I was like trying to be so cute, playing off of like the group A Tribe Called Quest. I loved them. And then A Tribe Called Bliss. Bliss was based off of my Bliss Project event, and A Tribe was based off of— obviously the book is, um, well, not obvious if you haven't read it. It was a networking book trying to connect women and also help you get to your highest level. In your life personally. And so with that, I would go back and I would rename my stupid book. I'm not saying it's stupid, I'm just being obnoxious, so that it would be clear on exactly what it did. You know, I think of, um, Amanda Francis's book Rich as Fuck. Great, I want that, give it to me. Like, let's, let's read this book about how to do that. There are so many great books that literally are just so incredibly clear in the title is so much of the reason why it really, really matters. So when we think about how we're speaking, are we being clear or we're being cute? Are we trying to impress our peers? So, you know, I see a lot on different bios, I help women step into their highest aligned embodiment. What the fuck does that mean? Like, I do not wake up in the morning going, oh God, I just, just really need somebody to show me how to step up into my highest aligned embodiment version of myself. They say, I need to make more money, my Instagram fucking sucks, I need to figure this out, and I'm burnt out. I don't even know if I can go another day the way that I am living right now, right? So a great example would be, I help women make more money without burning out. Now, it's not perfect, but you're getting the point of the clarity. So we're trying to include all of these different people and also sounding cute and using these new words or new agey words. It's just not working, you guys. So we want people to get so incredibly clear. Like, I help women stuck at $100K breakthrough to $500K. Whatever it is that you do, you need to start being super clear. So what makes a personal brand undeniable? It's clarity. It's the fact that when you go to a brand that just freaking rocks, like, you're just like, this is a huge brand out in the world that I love. You can probably go to it and within the first 3 posts, within the bio and first 3 posts, you can go tell somebody who doesn't know that person who it is and what they do. And if you can't do that on your page, which I'm working on mine right now, literally, that's like one of the, um, things I'm doing today is trying to finish, uh, my first 3 posts. And I'll be teaching a lot more on this because I'm so freaking excited because it's been a pain point for me for years. I am such a multifaceted entrepreneur that it has been the bane of existence trying to get clear or niche. Let me just tell you, that is like one of the most challenging things that has ever, ever happened to me in my life, is like taking someone who likes it all and saying no over and over. Also, the other piece that goes into a solid, undeniable personal brand is conviction. You guys, we just had Leanne Lopez Mosley speak at our mastermind. Our Elite Entrepreneur Mastermind. And I will tell you, one of the main things— I mean, these are 7 and 8-figure entrepreneurs in this room. Like, these are fucking smart people. And one of the things we always do, takeaways after they speak. One of the things that they said is they got so elevated and so much out of it because they actually got to witness in person and through her words, whether it's online or in person— this was in person, obviously— her conviction. And they said, if I could embody conviction like that, I know that I would have a lot more customers. And let me tell you that Leanne Lopez Mosley made $23 million last year because her conviction is so insane. She stood in that room and had no problem telling people where she thought she was great and she was the best at, and said it in a way that was so powerful. It was like, you're— even if you tried to go against her, she just didn't give a fuck. Like, how can you get that convicted? So conviction, say it like you mean it, and you're gonna have to say it before you mean it. Say it. You're gonna have to say it like you mean it before you actually feel like you mean it. And that's the thing, it's gonna, it's gonna rock you. It's gonna kind of like shake you and be like, oh God, I don't know if I should be saying that, like that doesn't feel right. What if someone challenges me? What if someone challenges you? Have you gotten results? Do you really believe this is the person that you came here to be? Then you have to start acting like it and saying it, because nobody is going to buy from you if you're not convicted by your own message. So what else makes an undeniable brand, you guys? Courage. Like, you have to have the courage to even be convicted to do it. You have to have the courage to call it the real problem and say what the uncomfortable thing is and risk losing the wrong people. It's really talking about what you believe the true problems are, like not just calling out what everybody else is seeing, but what's the nuance of the problem underneath that. Like, If they were writing in a journal, what would they be writing that they wouldn't want anyone else to see about themselves? Like, are they having problems being consistent and they're like, I fear that I might be lazy, but maybe, you know, the problem is that they're not lazy, that they're overwhelmed, but they feel so much shame around the fact that they're not getting work done because they're struggling to be organized or they're struggling because they feel so overwhelmed that they end up not doing anything and they don't tell people that this is the cycle so no one can ever help them or actually call out their the real problem. Like, you guys, what's the real problem? What's the shame that they are hiding around the thing that they are doing? That's what we have to start talking about. The next piece of the puzzle of having an insanely undeniable personal brand is consistency. And whether we like it or not, you need to be the person that is at top of mind to go to the thing that you do. And even if you're not 100% clear on what that is right now, if you are the person who pops up on their phone 2 to 5 times a day, Guess what? You are on their mind so that when something comes up, it just feels natural for you to be the person to go to for that thing. So I want you to remember, you know that moment when a meeting ends and someone says, let's remember to circle back on this next week. Everyone nods, but no one writes it down. And next week rolls around and everyone forgets. That's why Granola exists. Granola is an AI-powered notepad built for the way real people actually meet. Here's how it works. Take rough notes like you normally would, and in the background, Granola securely transcribes the meeting. Then it turns everything into a clean, structured, actually useful notes when the meeting ends. And the best part is that Granola works through your device's audio, which means it integrates seamlessly into the video conferencing tools you already use, and there's no setup and there's no awkward bots. It's just your normal meeting with superpowers. So you get to actually listen instead of frantically typing every word and still walk away knowing exactly what was decided, who's doing what, and what comes next. And I have to tell you that before using Granola, my meetings were very much the classic entrepreneur chaos where I jumped from mastermind calls to team meetings to partnerships, scribbling notes everywhere, then spending extra time afterward trying to piece together action items or remember what we actually decided. So the first time I saw Granola's notes after a meeting, I was honestly shocked by how organized and complete everything was. It felt like getting my brain back. Now I can actually stay present in the conversation instead of worrying about capturing every single detail. So if you're in a season of big vision, big conversations, and a lot of moving parts, Granola makes sure nothing falls through the cracks. If meetings are eating up your day, Granola is a no-brainer. You can try it totally free for 3 months. Just head to granola.ai/earn. That's granola.ai/earn to get your time back. Get 3 months free at granola.ai/earn. Earn. This is a job for Indeed sponsored jobs. One of the main things, even if we don't do this all at once, how can we raise our level of audacity a little bit more today? Because the more that you can start getting comfortable with just not caring what the people who don't fucking pay you think, then we can start moving forward and figuring out what the real problems are and saying them. And so this is such a dance for me, you guys. I can't tell you the amount of times that I've been like, hey, could you look at this post for me? What do you think? Is this cringy? Is this terrible? And yeah, some of them land on yes, this is cringy, but I'm posting it anyway because I don't know how else to say it in a way that could get attention. So we're going to give it a try. We're going to see who hates it. We're going to see who loves it. That's literally the mindset that I go into it with. Do you think I sit and look at my content and go, oh my God, I love all of this. This is so amazing. This is the best. I'm like, no, this could totally fucking bomb and people could hate it or I could get a response that I didn't expect at all. And so I am in test phase. And guess what? I'm gonna be in test phase the rest of my life because this shit changes so incredibly fast. So you guys, we need to be in test phase all the time, and you're gonna have to go and try to figure out what fits, what doesn't, what works, what doesn't. And it feels terrible. It feels terrible until it works. And so I want to just give you some inspo today to go get in your top of funnel, which means your, you know, how people see you, how people find you. And I want you to go and start saying the messages that you feel like your ideal client, who is going to pay you the most amount of money, would say, and what they're thinking, and what's in their journal, and how can you help them, and how can you be the best at helping them, and how do you believe you're the best at helping them, and how do you say it with so much confidence that it actually rattles you a little bit. Like, I have some posts coming out that I'm like, oh, ew, like, that is kind of like cringy, saying that I believe I'm one of the best at creating obsession-worthy brands that people fucking obsess over. Like, I mean, it's been 20 years and I've been one of the longest-standing personal brands that has made probably some of the most money in so many different areas that it's undeniable. But saying that out loud, it feels so cringy to me, and that has been holding me back because while all of these other people who just got into business 3 to 5 years ago are making insane claims, I'm over here with 20 years of business experience and millions and millions of dollars made in all of those industries. And I'm not telling anyone. I'm like, oh, I don't— that doesn't feel good. Like, people won't think I'm humble. The biggest compliment I get is that I'm approachable. That's gonna go away. Okay, I don't fucking care because it's not paying me, and people need to know that I get insane results. And so if I don't start actually saying what I'm doing, no one's gonna find me and we're gonna disappear. So I want this to be permission for you to literally start embodying what you know even before you feel it. Say it. Let it be cringy. Let people say, oh my God, do you see what she's saying online? Like, oh my, that is so braggy. It's braggy until people go, hey, thank God I found you because this sentence or this thing actually made me want to work with you. I have the craziest story, you guys. So I was doing rich girl content, and it was like some of my most fun content, by the way. I'm still doing it. But I was putting it out, um, because one of my posts just popped off. So when a post pops off, you're like, this is a sign. And so I started doing more of it, and I had someone that I know reach out and say how incredibly cringy and bad it made me look. And they're like, people who have a lot of money don't even talk this way, it's making you look essentially not good, etc. Like, it was a very, very detailed, rude message. And I just had this moment where I was like, Okay, but the numbers and the shares and the people are telling me the opposite. And so for a hot second, I backed off. I was like, oh, that really like rocked me because it's someone I know. And I kind of told my team, told some other people, and they're like, well, I don't think that's any reason to stop it because obviously these are your best numbers and your stuff, and it's giving people a lot of permission. Then recently I was in our Elite Mastermind room, and one of the women who is my a dream ideal client, obsessed with working with her, like actually am like, pinch me, this person is in this mastermind. I love it. She's such a value add. She's insane. She's amazing. Had told me that one of the things that pushed her over the edge to buy was my rich girl content. So you guys, I literally need you to understand that the thing that you are afraid of doing is the thing that is stopping your ideal client who wants to pay you millions of dollars is needing to see in order to get pushed over the edge. So I'm sending you guys so much love. I would love to see you in Newport. Go click below. I also have another really fun event coming in June in Newport. You guys, mark your calendars. You're not even gonna understand what is going to happen on June 13th in Newport Beach. Mark your calendars. Okay, I love you guys so much. I hope to see you at one of these events coming up and have the best week. Until next time, earn your happy. Bye everyone.
