The #1 Most Overlooked Sales Channel of the Next Few Years
2 Jul 2026 · 18 min
In this episode of Earn Your Happy, Lori Harder argues that the most underutilized sales channel for the coming years is becoming a professional podcast guest rather than hosting your own show. Drawing on her experience of over 1,600 podcast episodes and a decade of top‑25 Apple entrepreneurial rankings, she explains why guesting can generate massive revenue by borrowing other creators’ audiences. Harder outlines common pitching mistakes and reveals the six specific items podcast hosts look for before booking a guest: a professional photo, a clear positioning statement/bio, 3‑5 signature topics, a compelling episode title idea, and a concise media kit with key links (recent episode, Instagram, website). She stresses the importance of a well‑crafted first email and provides a free media‑kit template at milliondollarguest.com/media-kit. The episode also includes sponsor reads for Northwest Registered Agent, Indeed, and Zazzle, but the core content focuses on actionable steps to turn podcast guest appearances into a high‑ticket sales funnel, the business impact of mastering this channel, and how listeners can start booking multiple shows per month to scale their revenue.

If you ask me right now, should I start a podcast? Absolutely not. Are you insane? And it's not because podcasts don't work. They work insanely well. But what I'm seeing work even better and faster is to become a guest who learns how to turn podcasting into a sales funnel rather than an interview. You can go and borrow other people's audiences and instead of building your own. I am claiming this as the number one most overlooked sales channel of the next few years.
Welcome back to the podcast. It's time for another quickie because there's always time to fit in inspiration.
And if you're not in the car, I'm gonna need you to find an imaginary seatbelt because I'm going to literally have to have you buckle up for this episode. This is going to be such an overlooked topic that nobody is talking about that has the potential for some of you to be millions of dollars from this sales channel. And I know it to be true. Because I see it all of the time. It's one of the most underrated, overlooked ways of getting paid because it takes some work. But if you can master this, you will be on a road with very few people while all of the other sales channels, social media, email marketing, ads, YouTube, all of these other places that are being talked about are going to be so full of people with so much noise as they are right now that you're going to be competing so hard with the algorithm where you could literally learn to master this. And for some of you, within 30 days, this will be a sales channel that will be incredible for the next few years, if not forever. But it's completely untapped in my personal opinion. Not even in my personal opinion, it's completely untapped from everything that I have seen from 1,600 episodes on my podcast. And that is learning how to become a professional guest on podcast. Now, this is where this gets really, really good. I have done 1,600 episodes of the Earn Your Happy podcast. You can literally put me against people like Lewis Howes, Ed Mylett, Huberman, and I have done just as much, if not far more episodes in the 10 years. I have had a top 25 Apple entrepreneurial podcast for 10 years. That means that I have been in and out of the top 25 consistently unpaid, unpaid spots for 10 years. When I say unpaid, you guys, majority of you have no clue that those top 25 spots are paid. So for me to get in there organically means I'm crushing it. I'm just tooting my own horn so that you can understand this insane opportunity. Now, if you ask me right now, should I start a podcast? I would say, absolutely not. Are you insane? And it's not because podcasts don't work. They work insanely well. But what I'm seeing work even better and faster is to become a guest who learns how to turn podcasting into a sales funnel rather than an interview. I have had guests come on and leave with nothing. I've had guests come on and literally spend an hour of their time, leave with no followers, no lift, and no sales. While I have had other guests come on, watched them fill 6 months of coaching, a year of coaching, and I had one person come on and they sold $65,000 from one single link within the first few hours that that podcast link went up, and we tracked it back to that particular Lincoln episode. So what's the difference between people who make tens of thousands of dollars from one episode and those who don't? I'm gonna go far deeper on that coming up, and I have something that's gonna absolutely blow your mind. But I wanna tell you today how to not only become a million-dollar guest, but I want to really talk about the pitch because a lot of you are getting completely overlooked. So after looking at tens of thousands of pitches, you guys. I look at about 10 to 20 a day, and my team does the rest. That's just what somehow finds its way into my personal email inbox, not actually even the podcast email inbox, not even the customer service email inbox. So when you're sitting in the top 25, top 50, top 100, you get blasted now, especially with AI, with pitches. And I'll tell you, some of these people are paying people a lot of money to send horrible pitches that I delete in 30 seconds. I know within 30 seconds if I am going to book you or not. And so what are some of the things that we look for? I want to tell you the 6 things that a podcast host looks for and would make them book you in an instant. The problem is a lot of you are making us guess. You're making this extremely challenging, and the email's too long.
You're talking about yourself.
It's a full-ass bio within the email, and I have no idea if you can speak, who you are, where your links are. They're all over the place. I don't know if you've been on other podcasts. I don't know if you have something that you're offering. I don't know if you are somebody who is remotely worth booking, because I cannot tell. It just looks like a jumbled amount of words because it's not giving me what I'm looking for as a podcast host. Now, a lot of you have no fucking clue what podcast hosts are actually looking for. So let's kind of go through this because I want you to feel super empowered. And here's the great news, you guys, you're so much closer than you think, especially if you have an offering. I am telling you, we can get you so dialed in that you're going to start watching the yeses come in from the podcast that you start pitching. Now, I have to tell you, if you're somebody who hasn't been on big podcasts yet, you haven't quite earned the right to be on large podcasts. You have to start pitching smaller shows. And as you climb this podcast ladder, you're going to start earning the right and really understanding How to make an incredible podcast episode. And that's what big podcasts are looking for. Can you make an incredible podcast episode? There is a formula and a recipe for what goes into an incredible podcast episode, and we're going to reverse engineer that in some things coming up. But today, this is all about the pitch because you're not even making it to the podcast. You're not even making it to the show yet. So the 6 things that hosts are consistently evaluating before we ever even reply, before you ever hear from us, which most of you don't, is who are you? We want to see a professional photo, literally a very good, bright, professional photo that kind of like feels like somebody that would go on our show. If you are someone who is super super professional and, you know, you are very uptight and you're somebody who isn't relaxed and the whole bio is just really buttoned up, you should know what show you're going on. Like, if you pitch me, I'm probably not going to want to book you if you're overly crazy professional and there's no, like, friendly language in there. Because for me, we're probably going to drop some F-bombs on here and I'm going to want to get vulnerable. So know who you're pitching. Have that professional photo, have your name up there, have your positioning statement, have a short bio, and have that be really, really clear because right away we're looking for, are you credible and is your message clear? So we're also looking for what you talk about. We wanna see 3 to 5 signature topics, you guys. Like, we want to know that you have things dialed in that you're gonna talk about and essentially things that we can picture in a reel, things that are mic drop moments, things that we know our audience is gonna walk away with and be like, Holy shit, that was amazing. Here's the 3 things that I can take away from it. And then my audience can start playing the hero and become the hero because they just got totally, um, educated on something that they can share with other people that feels really good and really empowering to have takeaways, tangible takeaways from that episode. The third thing is I want you to pretty much tell me what this episode is going to be. What's it going to be called? Episode titles, suggested titles, ideas around what has worked before, what's gone viral for you.. And then we have section 4, 5, and 6. But what I wanna tell you is that I have a freebie for you where you're gonna be able to learn all of this because you can't just have 2 of these. You can't have 3 of these. You need all 6 of these in order to not be completely overlooked by a podcast host. And like I said, you have 30 seconds to catch my attention. So you need to learn how to write the first email that goes out to them with the media kit attached. The media kit does the very heavy lifting, but that First email is really, really important that you don't overdo it there, but you include the right links. I want to see the podcast that you were recently on so that I can see you speaking right away. I want your Instagram link in there immediately so I can click on that, and I want your website link in there immediately. So I need quick grab things in that first email. I have templates of what that first email should look like, and then I also tell you everything that should be in your media kit.

You guys, you're gonna stand out so far ahead of people, to the point where people are going to be so excited that you are making their life easier. The worst thing that you can do is assume that the podcast episode and making a great podcast episode is up to the host. If you want to become a professional guest, you craft the whole thing from start to finish. You're You're literally going to need to learn how to reverse engineer your stories and your questions from your offer. You guys, I watch people make so much money on my podcast every single day, and we have the links and proof to prove it. And there is so much info out there around just a handful of people who are literally making millions of dollars from podcast guesting. They do not have their own podcast. So I want you to think about the sheer number of podcasts that are out there. Your barista has a podcast, your hairdresser has a podcast, your freaking cousin has a podcast. And so all of these podcasts need guests, and we don't just need guests, we need great guests, because our podcast growth and the money that we get paid is determined by how you show up. Because I can ask all of the great questions in the world, but if you don't know how to tell great stories and have my people walk away with incredible tangible things, then my episode is not great. So it is so reliant on you if you're going to go viral or if you're going to get paid or not. Not the show. Like I said, I've seen people walk away with nothing, and then I've seen people walk away with full-ass businesses for the year. It's so determined by what you do. And unfortunately, out of my 1,600 episodes, I've watched about 95% of them drop the ball and waste the opportunity that could have built an entire business. And so out of all of the podcasts that you can think about, why would you ever start your own when we are hungry for guests? You could be going on anywhere from 5 to 10 to 15 shows a month where if you nail this, imagine the trust transfer that happens from audience to audience to audience that literally goes into your lead magnet or whatever offer you have created specifically for this, knowing that you're going on to be a professional guest. You can go and borrow other people's audiences instead of building your own. I am claiming this as the number one most overlooked sales channel of the next few years. It's insane. And if you're a storyteller, If you are someone who already has a great business, if you have some testimonials, if you have a great story, like I said, you just need to dial this in. Yes, this is going to take a little bit of work, but you're going to go on podcasts anyway. Why not know the exact framework and how this all works? And you guys, I have something coming for you, but for now, I've got this little amazing carrot that's going to help start getting you booked. You gotta work on this. You've gotta dial it in. You gotta take the time to do it, and it's gonna change your life. So go to milliondollarguest.com/media-kit. Go check it out and pretty please let me know your thoughts. You actually get to see one of my templates that I have used before for booking shows. And so you can plug and play from my template exactly what you want. Change the colors, change the fonts, but everything is there for you. And there are some things that are completely overlooked. I did not give you the 3 that are in the media kit. So go and check it out because they are— especially number 6 is the one that the second I see it, it will make me book you if you do it right. I'm like, this is so good, and I can't believe nobody does it. And it's the thing that makes me book people in a second. So I hope you guys love it, and please give me any and all feedback. I'm going to be going so deep on this topic because I have watched so many people make thousands and thousands and thousands of dollars from coming on my show as a guest. And there's nothing better than getting those testimonials. But now I realize that I must share this with you guys because we need better guests in the worst way. And I love going on people's podcasts and watching the ripple effect of all of the people who come into my world and join my masterminds. And it's undeniably insane the amount of money that is being left on the table right now. So you guys, I'm sending you so much love. Go check that out. It is in the show notes. And until next time, earn your happy. Bye everyone.
