Hey, my friend. It's Luis Massaro, CEO of Moving Mastery and founder of Moving Sales Academy. Listen, your movers, your drivers, your helpers are not only the face of the company, but they're really the heart of the company, right? Because when a customer calls and they want a professional mover, they don't really care who you have in the office, they don't really care what your back end system is like. All they care is that they want professionals to show up and do a good job for them, right? So that's really all that matters to them. Now, we all know that there's a lot that goes into making that possible and that the whole office is involved in making that happen. It's, you know, it's a team sport. But at the end of the day, if you don't have good movers going out to do the job, you're not going to have a good moving company, period. Alright? So I want to give you five keys to hiring movers for your moving company, alright? Because it's something that I've heard from people, they say I have a really hard time in my market. You know, there's a shortage of drivers, there's a shortage of movers, it's really hard, it's competitive. And I just want to give you five things to be focused on. The five keys to hiring movers that are going to help you get them and bring them in. Because you know what, at the end of the day, if you're able to sell more moves, if you're able to book more moves, you need to be able to get more movers to service them. All right? So the first thing you need to do, and it might sound obvious, but make hiring movers a priority. All right? I recently heard from someone who said, I'm having a really hard time hiring movers. Sorry. Well, what are you doing? What's the process like? And there really wasn't much of a process because they already had it in their head that they can't find movers in their city. They were already convinced that it's a difficult process. So it wasn't a priority. Right? If a shortage of movers is what's causing you to not be able to book more moves, you need to make that a priority. If the reason that you can't grow your business, like if you have sales and you have the marketing and everything's under control, but you're slowing down the amount of moves that you're booking because you don't have the movers to cover it, you need to make that a priority, you need to put somebody in charge of it. And the next thing you need to do is create what I call a mover recruiting process. All right? You need to lay out step by step the things that you need to do every single time. You need movers, the actions that you're gonna take. All right, you're gonna place an ad, write out that ad. What does that look like? You need a compelling ad. You need something that's gonna describe. Don't just say we're hiring movers. Here's the price, really list it out. Tell them about the job, tell them about your company, alright? Make it compelling when they call you, all right? Have a phone interview that's very compelling. Listen, you're not only, you know, you're not doing anybody a favor by giving them a job. Remember that. You know, a lot of times I speak to company owners and they feel like they're doing somebody a favor. Like, oh, people out there need a job, they should be happy to have a job. No, you know, they have options of where they could go work and they want to go work for a company that they feel good about too. So if you want to hire the right team, you need to make sure they feel good about you too. All right? So after you do a phone interview, bring them in, interview them. Your whole onboarding process and how it works within your office, right? Who's going to handle the phone call? Who's going to handle the interview? What questions are you going to ask them? Like, really lay out a mover recruiting process. If this is something that's causing you to not be able to book more moves, again, you need to make it a priority, all right? You need to have a process behind it. You can't just wing it. The same focus and attention that you put on your sales and marketing, you need to put on getting movers. Because it's all one big component. It's all one big machine. And every piece is necessary for you to grow your company, for you to be profitable, for you to be successful. So if that's the missing link right now for you, make it a priority, create a process behind it and train your movers. If you have a training program, instead of just hiring them and throwing them on a truck and saying, okay, go out there and shadow this person for the day, or you're only hiring people with previous moving experience, which doesn't always mean much. Just because they worked for another moving company doesn't mean they know what they're doing, because there's a Lot of moving companies out there that have employees working for them that don't know what they're doing, all right? So invest in spending time and money on training them before you put them out. Let them train at your office, in your warehouse, wherever you could do it, all right? Train them on how to move furniture. Train them in customer service. Train them on how you do things at your company, all right? It's gonna cost you a little bit of money up front, but it's so worth it. When you have a training program in place, you don't always have to find someone with moving experience. You know, there's a lot of great out there that are just good employees, right? That are physically capable of doing the job. They're good people. They're reliable. You know, they'll be a good presence with your customer. But maybe they don't have moving experience. Train them on how to do it right. If you have a training set up, you open up your workforce tremendously, all right? Once you hire them, they reward your movers for a job well done, all right? You need an incentive program. You need a bonus program. You know, you can't look at it and say it's their job to go out there and not break anything. It's their job to go out there and make my customers happy, all right? You have to look at it and say, you know what? I'm gonna start rewarding them for positive reviews. I'm gonna start rewarding them for no claims, all right? Put a bonus program together and get them excited about this, right? Because it's not all about just hiring movers. It's all about retention. It's all about keeping the good ones. You don't want to lose the good ones. And when you start doing this, they have friends. It's a small community. You want to be that company that all the movers want to work for. And that brings you to the last point, which is make your company a great place to work, all right? If you treat your movers good, if you have opportunities for them to make additional money because they're going out there and creating raving fans for you, you need to incentivize them, all right? Every single year, we would have a season kickoff party where we basically have a, you know, a picnic, or we'd go somewhere and kind of have everybody come and bring their families and have a barbecue and just kind of let them know that they're part of the team, they're part of the family, all right? Make your company a great place to work. Put these things in place and the first thing you need to rem. It's so obvious, but it's so important and many people aren't doing it. Make this a priority, period. If your phones weren't ringing and you didn't have leads, you'd be really making marketing a priority, right? If you didn't have anybody to answer those phones and call those leads, you'd be making sales a priority. If you don't have enough movers to cover all the work that you're able to book, make it a priority. If somebody's working on this on a daily basis, the recruitment process, you're going to find the guys you need, all right? You're going to find the movers you need to help you take your company to that next level. If you have any questions at all, like always leave them in the comments below.
