Louis Massaro (speaker) advises business owners to define clear role descriptions for the CEO and the operator (and, by extension, other positions). He argues that ownership gives freedom but also requires self-imposed role definitions so leaders can prioritize what to work on during day-to-day operations and avoid getting lost.

What are the role descriptions for the CEO and what are the role descriptions for the operator? Right. You guys should be doing this for all the positions in your company. These are really the most important too. But you are these two roles. And so part of the freedom that comes with being the owner of the business is like nobody tells you what to do. Well, if nobody's telling you what to do, then you're just kind of where are you going? You're lost. You've got to be able to define what it is you do yourself so that when you're in the day to day, you know, when you're on the field, when you're on the court, when you're in the battlefield, whatever, however you see yourself in the day to day, you know what to be working on, what not to be working on, what's important and how to keep yourself on track.
