Louis Massaro argues that how you spend the time between waking and starting work sets the tone for your life. He warns against immediately grabbing the phone and reacting to messages, and recommends a longer, intentional morning routine to "fill your cup," which he says makes you a better business owner, leader, father, husband and reduces reactive stress.

From the time you wake up to the time you essentially start working, what does that look like for you to wake up, turn over, grab the phone and open up stuff and see messages from other people is not the way to start your day. If we're going to build a quality life, we've got to start by waking up every morning and being in control. Waking up every morning and setting ourselves up for success, getting our mind right. Like I, you know, could I wake up? Yeah, I used to wake up and run out the door and run into my office and dispatch trucks and do all that. I'd go, go, go, go. So it's not like I haven't experienced what that's like. But now my morning is long because I know that if I do that and I do it right and I fill my cup, I'm going to be a better business owner. I'm going to be a better leader, I'm going to be a better father, I'm going to be a better husband, and I'll be able to actually enjoy my day as opposed to living in reaction and stress.
