This is an excerpt from a Louis Massaro YouTube video addressing the mindset barriers that prevent effective delegation. Massaro identifies fear and guilt—rooted in early beliefs about self-reliance—as reasons business owners avoid paying others to do tasks, and he argues that to scale a business one must adopt the opposite approach and delegate work.
I know sometimes it's scary, uncomfortable to delegate. There's a fear behind it. What if they don't do it right? What if they mess it up? There's guilt. Well, you know, why should I pay somebody to do something when I could do it myself? You know, we all have beliefs that were instilled in us at some point that we've adopted that become our way of looking at things. I used to have a friend as a kid, his dad was, like, mowing the lawn. He's like, never pay anybody to do something you could do yourself. Okay, that makes sense. But when you get in business and you're trying to scale, and you want to get out of the day to day, and you want to build your business, no, it's the opposite. Never do something yourself. You could pay somebody else to do.
