9 Years of IBS. Here's How We Fixed It in 6 Weeks.

In this interview, French entrepreneur Oliver recounts a nine‑year battle with severe IBS‑like symptoms—frequent loose stools, bloating, chronic fatigue, brain fog, and mood crashes—that disrupted his personal, social, and professional life. He describes countless failed attempts at conventional medicine, nutritionists, naturopaths, Chinese medicine, and self‑directed restrictive diets (including a four‑month ultra‑restrictive phase and a histamine‑sensitive protocol) that worsened his condition. Lucas Hedenbäck introduces his Superhuman Protocol, beginning with a short, two‑week reset phase to calm the gut, followed by a diversification phase that gradually re‑introduces varied foods while simultaneously addressing nine holistic pillars: sunlight exposure, stress management, sleep quality, nutrition, mineral/electrolyte balance, detox pathways, sexual energy, toxin avoidance, and overall lifestyle alignment. Daily accountability through symptom and food logs is highlighted as a key differentiator. After six weeks, Oliver reports a stable daily solid bowel movement, a dramatic reduction in bloating (from a 7/10 to 3‑4/10), stable energy levels, and improved mood. He attributes success not only to the protocol’s comprehensive actions but also to a psychological shift—belief and hope—that fuels his ambition and neuroplastic growth. Oliver concludes by urging listeners with similar gut issues to view the program as the "single best investment" for health, wealth, and relationships, promising continued progress in future follow‑ups.

I've been having digestive issues for at least nine years, and I've been having you know like chronic fatigue as well, brain fog, loose stool like two three four times a day, lots of bloating, lots of food intolerances. And so yeah, I've tried every everything you know nutritionists, micronutritionists, naturopaths, Chinese medicine, anything really I tried. I've tried a lot of supplements as well. I've been restricting foods for you know nine years. Yeah. Like, mentally, it's tough because you found a new lead cure, you try it and it doesn't work, and you try it and it doesn't work, and it makes things even worse. I mean, it's not a way to live. I want to heal, and I've been looking for 9 years, and it's been, you know, affecting my life for 9 years. So now it's like, I'm done. I want a solution, like, now. 6 weeks in, the stability of the bowel movement, because for me, this was the main symptom. And now this is completely gone. I mean, I think it's been for almost 2 weeks or more that I've been having almost every day one solid bowel movement a day, which is for me amazing because I don't even remember the last time in my life I've had that. And this happened in 6 weeks, so for me it's already a success. And also my energy levels are super stable. I hardly have any crash of energy or mood during the day. My baseline is so much better, super stable. Bloating has gone down. And someone actually following you every day, you know, looking at the logs, what are you eating, what are your symptoms every day. For me, this is the game changer of your protocol. Your expertise is absolutely amazing. It's very impressive, especially knowing that you're so young. All the professionals have been consulting for the 9 years During the 9 years I was looking for solutions, there were people working in this industry, in this area for 20 years, 30 years. They were 50, 60 years old. And I mean, look at you, you've never seen someone with such like profound knowledge on the whole thing. This is the single best investment you can make in your life. No comparison. And it was— this will be the best investment in your life for your health, for your wealth, InfoYou relationship.
Okay, so in this call I'm sitting down with Oliver, an entrepreneur from France who has spent the last 9 years trying to fix his gut issues. You heard it from himself— naturopaths, functional medicine, all the supplements you can ever think about. He's tried it all, but nothing actually worked. And in this video, we break down exactly what those things were that Oliver had been trying before and what we have been doing differently now to be able to get us to a situation where we're just not even 2 months in, 6 weeks to be exactly, and we're seeing so much progress already. What's the secret behind that? Well, that's exactly what we're uncovering in this video. So make sure to watch to the end if you want to understand a bit more exactly how we've been able to do this in such a short amount of time from someone that has literally tried it all and, um, been struggling with this for, for so long. So make sure to watch to the end. And I hope you will enjoy and get some good value out of it. Welcome, welcome everyone. I'm joined by Oliver. Oliver, would you please give, give them a bit of an introduction? Who are you? Where are you at? What are you doing?
Yeah, of course. Hi everyone. So I'm Oliver. I'm French. I'm from Paris and I'm also an entrepreneur and I've been having digestive issues for at least 9 years, quite severe for at least 9 years, but I suspect it started even earlier. And so my symptoms basically were very hectic bowel movements every day, Loose stool like two, three, four times a day. Lots of bloating, lots of food intolerances. So I basically for nine for the past nine years have basically restricted away from gluten, dairies, yeah, like cruciferous vegetables like broccoli and and kale and so on. So yeah, and I've been having, you know, like chronic fatigue as well, brain fog. It's had a huge impact on my social life as well because you kind of feel it affects your, you know, your serotonin and your dopamine. So you kind of feel like depressed Sometimes I had a lot of like mood crash towards the end of the day, and that doesn't really give you, you know, the drive to go out and socialize, which is— which I know, which I now know thanks to the protocol, that it's a huge part as well of being, you know, having a stable nervous system and helping in healing. So yeah. It was a vicious circle, and I've basically had all the symptoms, and it was very debilitating.
Yeah, and I guess, I know we've talked about that as well, but like some of the worst consequences is obviously like, as you said, like just not being able to live a normal life, I was about to say, but like not being able to go out to restaurants and business dinners and whatever it might be, dinners out with family without always having sort of having to pay for it tomorrow, right?
Yeah, definitely. So, um, that would happen to me, uh, every time I would, um— so when I would go out, if I got like one night, maybe the next day I'm okay-ish. If I go out 2 nights in a row, then it's game over for me. And that I would especially see it when I would, um, go on holidays. So I would go on holidays, and obviously I'm on holidays, I want to, you know, enjoy And I'm with friends and family, and we're having you know couple beers. We're having you know some tasty foods, and I don't really I don't really like to restrict when I'm on holidays. I want to enjoy, and so it will all be always be the same. You know the first day fine, second day it game over. All the symptoms are back. I'm feeling bad, low energy, and it's just you know. It's so annoying for me, of course. It's very annoying as well for the people around me, my family, you know, to know that every time we travel and we go out or we do something, the next day or within a couple of days, I'm going to be ill. So, I mean, it's not a way to live. It affects— so it affects your relationship, it affects your health in other areas as well. It affects your anything, your work. So health, relationship, any like major, you know, compartment of your life is severely affected by it.
Yeah, for sure. And during this also, if we think about 9 years, as you said it yourself, Oliver, you've been obviously aware and also trying to sort of fix and you've tried a bunch of different things. What are some of those things that you've sort of Yeah, just been trying previously, I guess.
Yes, I've tried a lot of things. So I've started going the traditional medicine route, doing all the analysis and everything, you know, coming out normal. So yeah, the doctors would say, well, it's probably due to stress, so there's not much we can do right now. It's, you know, it's basically what you have is IBS. When we don't know what you have, we say it's IBS, and there's basically no remedy known right now. It's quite new. So I mean, you can go and try, you know, alternative medicines and stuff. It's like basically, you know, good luck. Yeah, it was in 2018. And so yeah, I've tried everything, you know. Nutritionists, micronutritionists, naturopaths, Chinese medicine. I mean, you name it, anything really I tried. I've tried a lot of supplements as well. I've been restricting foods for, you know, nine years. I've tried earlier this year. I've followed a protocol. from a book from Dr. William Davis that was quite— I would say I was quite— I thought it was going to work. I was quite excited. But this is the thing, you can have the right information, but if you do it on your own, then, I mean, the chances of it actually succeeding are very slim. And that was the case for me. And actually what happened, there was a bit like a protocol. So there's different phases and I got stuck at the first one. Which was a very restrictive one with no sugar, no carbs at all. And it should have been like two weeks, I think, and I've done it for four months.
Yeah, because I think that was the case when you when you first joined in with us as well. You'd been coming from like basically restrictive, very restrictive eating.
Yeah. Ultra restrictive for four months in a row, and I couldn't get past the first the first phase. And now I know why because I was. sensitive to histamine. And the second phase was actually consuming like fermented foods, and I couldn't deal with them because they're high histamine and I didn't have enough, you know, enzymes or whatever. So, so yeah, it actually made things worse. And so I could digest even less things. And so it's— I mean, it's It's, um, it's, uh, how can I say? Yeah, like mentally it's, it's tough because you, you, you found a new, you found a new kind of, you know, uh, lead cure. You try it and it doesn't work, and you try it and it doesn't work, and it makes things even worse. And there's so much information, and, um, and, uh, yeah, it's overwhelming.
It's depressing, 100%. And I think obviously you know this now as well, but it's like— and I think this is very insightful also probably for a lot of the people listening— but everyone thinks that feeling better short term is, is not to be mistaken for being healed. And that's a lot— that's the mistake a lot of people make when they go into, you know, everyone can do a restrictive diet, right? It's just like you cut out all the sort of things that are triggers. and take out all these what I call heavy hitters. Now I feel a bit better. And then you continue. But obviously, that should only be executed therapeutic as a first phase to just take a bit of load off. But that's not a place we want to stay in for a long time because what's going to happen, you're going to just continue to downregulate your microbiome. And as you said there yourself, Oliver, obviously you pay the price of that, of being there too long and things just getting worse and worse because you have no, no diversification at all, right?
Oh yeah, one thing that actually did work quite well, but it was also temporary, was, um, long, long-term, uh, fasting. So yeah, I've done 3 of those, like 4 or 5 days fasting, and after those, like for a couple of, like a few weeks I would have no symptoms whatsoever. But the thing is, that could maybe work as a good, like, reset phase.
Yeah.
But afterwards, I would start, you know, eating everything again. So I would actually, like, hinder all the benefits of the progress. And I know you're not a big fan of fasting. Well, like intermittent fasting. I don't know your views on long-term fasting. But yeah, that did have some temporary effects. But I mean, it's not a long-term solution. And definitely what you need is the actual accountability and someone actually following you every day, looking at the logs. What are you eating? What are your symptoms every day? And for me, this is the game changer of your protocol. And that's where for me most of the value comes from.
Yeah, I think that's very interesting that you say, Oliver, because I think that is generally the case with a lot of, with a lot of clients as well, because you fit pretty good into that sort of avatar as well. But like, maybe you're not in a situation where you want to really put that much brainpower towards like just figuring, figuring the nitty-gritties out. You just want to You just want to do—
Like, honestly, it's— I don't mind doing the brain work because I like learning and searching. But the thing is, I mean, I want to— first of all, I want to heal. And, uh, yeah, you know, and I've been looking for 9 years and it's been, uh, you know, affecting my life for 9 years. So now it's like, I'm done. I want a solution like now. I don't want to keep on looking and losing years of my life, you know. I want a solution right now.
So yeah, yeah, no, that makes, uh, that makes a lot of, uh, a lot of sense. Uh, and when you, um, take them, uh, take them through as well. So, so when we— when you started, obviously you were away, uh, you were away, you were south.
Yeah, holidays.
But like when we properly started, we, we did a bit of a just calming reset phase to just take a bit of the load off, right? Then, um, yeah, what happened after, after that?
The next phase, or what happened during the reset phase?
Yeah, yes, both. Take them, take them through it.
Yeah, so basically reset phase is you— it's kind of a restrict— it is a restrict— restrictive phase. So I was, I was kind of worried because I was coming from like a 4-month uh, restrictive phase, and I didn't want to do one, another one. But, uh, Lucas was, uh, reassuring and saying, you know, this is going to be very short, like, you know, 10 days, 2 weeks max. Um, and yeah, so we've done that for 2 weeks, and it did, it did its job of actually, actually calming down the system and starting to stabilize everything and kind of preparing the field, the ground for the next phase, which I'm currently in, which is diversification. So yeah, definitely a very important phase. And it worked, you know, it worked really well for me.
Yeah, correct. And then now obviously we're sort of diversifying and just continuing to broaden the bacterial input, basically. I guess worth to mention as well on this is just calming things down and then starting to diversify is like that's the bread and butter. But obviously pairing that with stress management and all these things, which which is is obviously one of them, I guess most important things. Was that maybe something that you had been overlooking before, Oliver? Since you've know you've you've you've tried a lot of things, but maybe it was like I'm just I'm just thinking loud now, but like not. focusing on everything at once, right?
Oh, yeah. So there's so much to say, but yeah, the protocol is a holistic approach. So it's not just food and digestion. You actually learn a great deal. So there's a massive knowledge base that you get access to when you sign up. And I absolutely love this about your protocol because not only are you going to heal your, um, your guts and you'll be the healthiest and you have the most vitality you ever had after, after the protocol. But you also learn so, um, so much, um, fundamental and, and, and super important, uh, knowledge that is going to help you for the rest of your life, for you and your family. I'm thinking of, I'm thinking of my partner, I'm thinking of my daughter, um, and I've already started implementing things with my daughter now, you know, like exposing her to much more, you know, broadened foods. So I can, you know, start from a very early age to have a diverse microbiome. So this is amazing. And of course, so I've totally changed my lifestyle when it comes to eating, eating environment. So, you know, doing some calming breathing before eating so I can be in a parasympathetic nervous system mode and I can actually digest the food I consume. I expose myself much more to sunlight. I used to be someone that would stay indoors all the time and eat in front of my computer watching, you know, like a series.
Yeah.
Now I don't. Now I eat on my balcony in the sun with no distraction and actually focusing on my food, focusing on chewing more and swallowing less. Which had, I think, a major impact on my bloating. This one single thing. We're focusing as well on the sleep, on the sleeping environments. So now I don't— I used to watch like series in the evening. Now I don't watch series anymore. I just read and actually enjoy it much more. I love reading. And yeah, I can read like 1 hour to 2 hours a night and then, you know, naturally fall asleep earlier and, you know, have a longer sleep as well. Yeah, spending more times in nature, doing less exercise because I used to do a lot of sports. I used to do like very intense. I used to do Brazilian jiu-jitsu, which was extremely intense sessions. I used to do like two to three a week, and then I would do strength training, and I would do like one or two. Sessions of tennis as well. So there was a period in my life I was like training twice, 2 times a day every day, uh, while at the same time having a newborn baby, while having a— like starting a company. So I mean, like the stress, the stress budget was through the roof. And so now it's like only 2 sessions of sports or maybe 3 max, uh, Every week, so like I have less stress on my system. And yeah, I mean, you take everything into account and it's it's it's it has a massive impact. So basically, after like four weeks, I can see a massive difference right now. And this is because of you know the compound effect of every little thing. Like even for me, they're not little. For me, they're like the the compounding effects of a lot of fundamental. Very impactful individual things.
For sure. I think it's very. I love that you said said that, Oliver, and it was kind of what I wanted to get out of you also. But the thing everyone always thinks about is like oh as long as I'm like if I were to give most the majority of people like okay this is do this reset diet start diversify like this they. wouldn't fix their stuff because they're— if that's the only things that they're focusing on, it's not gonna— that's this. It's still the surface level execution, but we still have to do things across the board to sort of make everything in this sort of positive symbiosis. And obviously that's why, like, my core philosophy to everything is obviously that's one of the first things that I get everyone to look at, as well as like the I don't know if you remember them from the top of your head, but the 9 pillars of the, of the Superhuman Protocol, right? And my genuine belief is if all of those are sort of checked off and we're doing all the sort of subcategories in those 9 pillars, it doesn't matter what problems you have, what issues you have. If you follow those for long enough and sort of stay within, you're gonna fix your shit, right?
Definitely.
And it's, uh, I haven't still, like, yet to this day, I haven't seen seen someone do that and not come out like green on the other side, right? So it's super, super important. Sunlight, managing physical stressors. It's— what are those? Sleep, nutrition, of course. Then we have a mineral and electrolyte balance. We have— what else? Optimizing detox pathways, stress control. Yeah, yeah, it's all that sexual energy, toxic avoidance. I think that's, that's the, that's all 9s, right? But if we, if we take those, it's, um, yeah, that's the whole, that's the whole philosophy, right?
It's like, uh, I don't know, yeah, you know Alex Hormozi, you know, like the business guy YouTube? And he says like secret to success is like do unreasonable amount of volume of work that it would be, it would be impossible for you not to succeed. And for me, this protocol is this. I mean, you, you do so much on, on every front. Like, I also forget, like, I've changed my pans to like, um, um, steel, uh, so I don't have my— I don't have like Teflon.
Teflon, yeah.
I don't have any microplastics anymore. This, I think, had a huge impact as well. And yeah, it's like massive amount of action in every area of your health. And so obviously it's going to have a, an amazing impact in, in such a Short period of time.
Yeah, no, it is because literally every action counts, right? That's that's what it is. If we if you have if you do all those right things on a surface level, but you have all these other things that are sort of working against you, even though it's just the smallest little thing, you know, it all adds up to the same equation either way. So why not just make sure that you you know you cover everything and do what you can, right? That's sort of how we how we like to think about it. But yeah, super super all there. And now you know we we said it we sat here before we we start. We're like literally just six weeks of execution in basically, right? Where are we at right now? How are we feeling? How are we doing? A month and a half in.
Yeah, so six weeks in, and I would say the most notable for me is the stability of the bowel movement because for me this was the main symptom. Like, you know, going 3, 4 times to the bathroom every day, loose stool, urgency. And now this is completely gone. I mean, I think it's been for almost 2 weeks or more then I've been having almost every day one solid bowel movement a day, which is for me amazing because I don't even remember the last time in my life I've had that. And this happened in 6 weeks. So— So for me, it's already a success. And also my energy levels are super stable. I hardly have, you know, any crash of energy or mood during the day. It can happen sometimes because with the diversification phase, sometimes I eat a food that maybe I shouldn't have, or, you know, like yesterday I went to the restaurant, so Sometimes there's a bit of flare-ups, and— but I mean, my baseline is so much better, super stable. Bloating has gone down. I think bloating was maybe my baseline before the protocol was about 7 out of 10, and now I wake up every day, it's around 3 out of 10, and it goes up to 4, maybe 5 sometimes max, but most of the days like 3 to 4. Right now, which is a huge win as well. And, and yeah, I think that's pretty, pretty, pretty substantial already for 6 weeks.
Yeah, for sure. And I guess we already touched about that, but like, what specifically would you say have, have been adding up to that with regarding or regards to your 9 years of sort of trial before? How have we been able— what are the core ingredients to the sort of positive 6-week trajectory right now compared to all the previous time, I guess, Oliver?
Yeah, so basically what I just said. And I would say something maybe a bit deeper as well, more psychological, is hope. Not even hope, is belief.
Yeah.
Knowing that I'm going to heal. I am absolutely positive that in 6 months I will have a normal life and I will have the best health and most vitality I've ever had before. And this has also direct consequences on, you know, the way I visualize my short-term future. I am more ambitious with my business because I'm anticipating the fact that I'm going to to have so much energy. I'm going to be able to do so much more. And also, you know, I'm I've asked you about you know your favorite books on you know psychology, business, self help and so on. And so I've been reading this at the same time. So it's been kind of a very virtuous cycle. of, you know, self-growth, psychological health. And I think this is, yeah, this is huge.
Yeah, neuroplasticity, right? It's super important. That's one of the most important things, actually, believing in what you're doing. But I guess it's also one of the hardest things because I guess coming from— that's maybe interesting. What do you think was your secret there of just flipping that mindset or to that mindset, Oliver? Because it's pretty hard. To I'm just now I'm just assuming based on a lot of people, you know, you tried a bunch of things. Nothing seems like it's working. Like what did you think light or light the spark? I was about to say, but yeah.
I'm not sure I understood the question. Was it like why did I get into the?
No, where do you think that that positive belief came from? Like where because of the fact that you've been you know trying a bunch of different things. I'm I'm just thinking you know someone listening to this as well.
Okay.
they're, they tried everything. They, they feel like they don't have any hope because they've tried everything. Like, I think that's, that's probably a pretty common thing.
No, it's just the, um, like, just for clarification, I didn't know about you, and I just, I watched the— I remember the day I discovered you on YouTube, and I watched one video of 11 minutes saying basically how to heal your gut in 11 minutes.
Yeah, sorry.
And, um, And I decided to work with you after watching this one video. So, well, only one video. It resonated so much with me. It was, uh, incredible because, um, I had just finished like, um, a coaching program on meditation.
Yeah.
So I was so much into meditation and I was, I was convinced meditation long-term was going to also help a great deal heal my gut because I knew it was coming from the nervous system.
Yeah.
And so in, in this video, you actually talked about, you know, food, fermented foods that I already had the knowledge because of the protocol I did with William Davis. You talked about nervous system, hormones, um, um, I mean, so much, and everything actually, you know, uh, connected because there were things I had already been exploring earlier this year.
Yeah.
The sheer amount of knowledge that you have that was so specific and made so much sense and connected everything I was actually having right in my life. And I've— and immediately I say, okay, this is, this is, this is, this is for me. So I decided at this moment I'm going to work with you. And then afterwards, it's, it's kind of, it kind of confirmed, um, and over-delivered on what I thought it was going to be. Um, like the sheer amount of knowledge that there is in the knowledge base. Um, your, your expertise is absolutely amazing. Um, it's, uh, very impressive, especially knowing that you're so young. I mean, all the, all the professionals have been, uh, consulting before for the 9 years. During the 9 years I was looking for solutions, there were people working in this industry, in this area for 20 years, 30 years. They were 50, 60 years old. And I mean, look at you, you're 25 years old. I've never seen someone with such like profound knowledge on the whole thing, which is amazing. Um, everyone in the protocol is super, super positive. Everyone, everyone says, you know, you're absolutely in the right place. You're going to heal. Everyone's healed here. And so you have this absolute, you know, belief. You say like, I'm in the right place. I mean, nothing can, nothing can happen and hinder my, my progress and my healing because, I mean, there's everything here. So yeah, this is the, the, this is where, I mean, I think the belief stems from. Uh, I have absolute conviction that I'm going to heal my gut in the next 6 months.
Yeah, I think that's really, really, really good. I have 110% conviction in that as well, because, because of the fact that once again, we're only getting started right now, right? So that's super, super cool. I guess that's probably a good way to, to, to also start wrapping it up, Oliver. I really appreciate you for, for coming on and talking a bit just about your, yeah, your journey so far. I guess if you, if there is someone someone listening and they feel like they're maybe sort of in the similar situation as you, as you were there, maybe, you know, diagnosed with IBS or whatever the bullshit they've been hearing. And yeah, maybe thinking about potentially booking, booking in a call and exploring. What, what advice would you have to that person?
Well, I would say honestly, if you have those kind of symptoms and it generates Real pain for you in your life. This is the single best investment you can make in your life. Like no comparison. Don't think about it. Just do it. And it was this will be the best investment in your life for your health, for your wealth, and for your relationship. Period.
Period. That's that's that's that's good. I really really appreciate that as well, Oliver. And Yeah, no need to overcomplicate it. Listen to Oliver. It's good. Yeah, no, but once again, super, super massive thanks, Oliver. And also a big, big tap on your shoulder as well for, for obviously executing everything to a T as well. That's usually— I always need to end with that because obviously I can only do my part. It's obviously required for, for you to do yours, which you absolutely have.
So.
Fantastic. And yeah, it's, it's going to be fun to continue to see the progress over the next coming months, Oliver.
Yeah, I'm looking forward to do the follow-up at the end of the program.
Yeah, in person. Yeah, we said we're going to do a part 2. Maybe, maybe we do it at the next retreat, maybe we fly out, whatever. But there will for sure be a part 2. So then we'll see where we're at then. Awesome. Hope you enjoyed and hope you got some value out of this. And once again, thanks, thanks to Oliver.
Thanks. See you guys.
