Cortisol Is Destroying Your Gut. Here's How to Fix It in 5 Simple Steps.

Lucas Hedénbäck argues chronic stress and cortisol dysregulation, not food, cause persistent bloating, constipation, and brain fog. He outlines five steps: eat in a calm environment, lower total stress through sleep and sunlight, simplify meals, fix your circadian rhythm, and align training with recovery. Clients like John and Landon saw rapid improvements after applying the protocol.

If you're dealing with gut issues right now, I'm going to expose something almost nobody in this industry talks about. And this is something I didn't understand for years. I was desperately trying to fix my gut, but nothing seems like it was working. And this is how I looked, trying every single gut supplement you can think of. I was training hard, eating exactly what every influencer practitioner told me to eat, doing everything right on paper. But I was still bloated, foggy, barely had any libido, cycling through constipation and diarrhea with no explanation. And what I failed to understand Was that food was never the problem. And now I'm in the best shape of my life, eating whatever I want. I haven't tracked a calorie in over two years, and I'm able to go to a restaurant and eat whatever I want. And in this video, I'm going to show you exactly why food was never the issue, and the actual five-step process and framework that fixed my gut for good. If you already eat cleaner than almost everyone you know, maybe you've even cut seed oils, gone carnivore, tried low FODMAP, cut gluten. Gluten and dairy, taking probiotics, prebiotics, digestive enzymes, sauerkraut, the bone broth, the L-glutamine, but you're still bloated after meals that, you know, should be fine, still getting brain fog after eating, still crashing in the afternoon, maybe dealing with some reflux that seems like it comes out of nowhere, this is for you. When I first started, I thought the answer to everything was just more discipline, stricter diet, even harder training, more optimization, more supplements. But meanwhile, my nervous system was completely fried. Cortisol sky high, recovery terrible, and libido non-existent at 20 years old. Digestion, complete disaster. And here's the part that actually broke my old model. Even once I got the nutrition genuinely dialed in, eating clean, doing everything right, I still had the same issues. And that's when I understood gut health was never just a food problem. So here's the mechanism. Your gut is controlled by your nervous system, and if your nervous system is dysregulated, your body physically cannot digest and utilize food properly. I don't care how organic the steak is, how clean the carbs are, how many supplements It's like putting premium fuel into a car with a broken engine. The fuel isn't the problem; the system receiving it is. I want you to picture the exact same plate of food in two different situations. Situation number one: you're stressed between meetings, eating rushed in front of the screen, right after a workout under LED light, listening to a podcast. Situation two: calm, relaxed, a few slow breaths before eating, ideally outside in the sun, grounded, not multitasking. It's the same exact food, completely. different outcomes in your body because this sets off a chain reaction. It changes digestion, which changes nutrient absorption, which changes recovery, which changes hormones, which changes sleep. And that's the first domino in a spiral that just keeps on running, either positive or negative. And it's why I'd honestly rather see someone eat McDonald's calm and relaxed than the best steak on the earth stressed out in front of a screen. And yes, you heard me right. I'd rather see you eat McDonald's in the right eating environment than the best of the best grass-fed steak and locally sourced potatoes, but eating it rushed and in front of the screens and between meetings and in a worse environment. And this is also exactly why so many gut protocols fail long term. And once you see why, the fix is a lot simpler than another supplement stack because you've probably tried probiotics, carnivore, low FODMAP, glutamine, bone broth, antimicrobials, digestive enzymes. The list just goes on and on. And some of it might actually have helped temporarily before the symptoms creeped right back. And that's because you were rebuilding your gut While your nervous system was actively tearing it down from the inside. So you cannot heal optimally while living in chronic fight or flight. It gets you short-term relief, but never a lasting fix because the system underneath was never actually addressed. And this was exactly my story. Stressed, focused only on training and nutrition, and it showed up as bloating, puffy physique, holding on to water. And just 2 years later, same guy but completely different picture. And on paper, I was actually more relaxed with my nutrition by then, not The difference was never the diet. It was fixing the system underneath it. So stick with me because here's exactly how to rebuild this properly. And it's a simple 5-step process. And the last one is the most important. Number 1, stop eating in survival mode. Before meals, you need to sit down properly. No phone, 5 deep breaths, ideally grounded outside in the sun. You need to signal safety to your body before it will prioritize digestion at all. Super important. Then you have to lower your total stress load. You won't remove all stress from your life and you don't need to either, but stop overstimulating yourself. Stop overtraining, improve sleep, cut caffeine dependency, get sunlight, take walks throughout the day. Think of it as a 2-sided scale. If you stress hard, you need to recover harder. Whatever weight is on the stress side, recovery has to outweigh that or the system stays underwater. You have to simplify digestion. No hyper-restriction, no jumping straight to carnivore, just protein, easy carbs, and some cooked vegetables. Simple meals reduce digestive burden while your system calms down enough to actually fire properly again. Reintroduce complexity later once your gut can actually handle it. You need to fix your circadian rhythm. Your gut runs on it. Morning sunlight regulates cortisol, improves digestion and motility, and improves sleep later as well. And at night, cut blue light and stimulation to calm the nervous system down. Better sleep means better gut, and melatonin is actually one of the most important variables when it comes to healing your gut. So if you're suppressing that, you're fighting a steeper uphill battle than you have to. And then you need to let training and recovery live in symbiosis. Training hard 5 to 6 days a week while already stressed and under-recovered just adds fuel to the fire. Cut any unnecessary training strains so recovery can actually catch up because you don't heal when you're in survival mode. The reframe I want you to take away here is this: stop asking what food to remove next and start asking why your body is struggling to tolerate life in the first place. Because your gut symptoms are usually the messenger, it's not the root problem. So fix the nervous system and bloating improves, energy improves and stabilizes, brain fog lifts and the food sensitivities that seem to come out of nowhere start disappearing because the environment completely changed, not the food itself. John had been struggling with his gut for 20 years. Every diet, every supplement, every GI doctor, right up to the edge of giving up. And a few weeks after we mapped his actual inputs instead of just his symptoms, things started falling into place. Bloating gone, bowel movements back to normal and no more brain fog. Landon, a US-based business owner training for over 10 years without actually seeing any results, had been pushed towards testosterone replacement therapy by people who never even once looked at his sleep, his stress, or his nutrition. We actually fixed the system first, and 4 months later, the results he'd been chasing for years finally showed up without any external hormones. And Glenn had been struggling with his gas and bloating and thought that was normal. Just 3 months into the Superman Protocol, all of that completely gone. And as a byproduct of fixing his system and fixing his gut, he'd go then into the best shape of his life as well. And this is not magic. It's what happens when you actually decide to fix the system underneath so that the inputs you're doing finally starts yielding you some return. So if you want this mapped out for your exact situation, the first link in the description is to book an assessment call with my right-hand man, Anton. We run what we call a current situational audit to understand your situation, and we'll see if the Superhuman Protocol is a good fit for you. Yeah, and if you're interested in the Superhuman Protocol, fit for you. And if not, that's completely fine. At least you'll be left with a clear action plan and some resources. But just to be very clear here, this is not for you if you just want a standard training and nutrition plan. It's for you if you're running a business, you have a demanding life, you're sick of not feeling dialed in, you're sick of not being able to go to a restaurant and order whatever you want, and you want someone to take the decision-making off your plate so your only job is executing. Managing your stress load is one of the 5 steps here, and it deserves its own deep dive. And a full protocol video on that, on the exact stress management framework I put all clients on that pairs directly with this. So make sure to watch this one next.
