What stops gen z brides from booking millennials

Marissa Brennan audited hundreds of bridal businesses and found five reasons Gen Z brides aren't booking millennials: no authentic video, dense text instead of scannable copy, ignored DMs, inconsistent posting, and fake AI captions. She shows how to fix each one, from filming trial appointments to writing like a real person.

If you're a millennial who keeps saying, wow, it's never been so hard to book brides, I really wish I could go back to summer '22 bookings when it was effortless to book out my calendar. I used to just post. I didn't need to know how to market, create content, or know how to sell to book brides. Here's what I actually noticed is happening after auditing hundreds of bridal pros' emails, websites, socials, content, proposals, and backend systems, so you can understand exactly why there's this massive booking shift. But before we dive in, If you wanna personalize, customize to your business, finding your exact booking leak within like 3 minutes, you're gonna wanna head to the caption and get the Dying to Book Blueprint where you just input a couple questions and in 3 minutes I'll tell you where your emails, your socials are leaking you out bookings and how much money you're actually leaving on the table every single year. Head to the caption to get the blueprint so you can stop killing your bookings. Now here's what's actually blocking the new era of Gen Z brides from booking with you. And I might get canceled for saying this, but not filming yourself, yo. If you're a millennial, and you're still only taking finished looks, photos and videos, and you're not filming yourself, Houston, we have a problem. Houston, we have a problem. The new era of Gen Z brides, they grew up on Snapchat, TikTok, they are video-first kind of generation versus millennials, we wanted everything to be perfectly curated, aesthetic versus Gen Z is total opposite of that. So they want real authentic. And what's the one thing you can't fake? You can't fake when you're filming a client appointment, the conversation you're having with her, the vibe that you're bringing to the wedding day that she can see in a 90-second reel, but she can't see behind a finished look photo of just the makeup or the hair. If she doesn't know what your vibe is before she hires you, it's going to give her stranger danger. So imagine you go on a first date with somebody, but you never FaceTimed them, got on a phone call, you don't know their voice, or if they're catfishing you in real life. You probably wouldn't do that, not in today's world. Same with your bride. If she can't hear your voice, see your face, or watch a video of you working with your bride within your last 9 posts, that's not going to build trust with her. She's scrolling, it's giving stranger danger vibes. And again, the kind of content that cannot be faked is you filming an appointment with your client. You can't fake the conversation, and Gen Z is very logical, analytical, and they will stalk you to the ends of your profile, okay? And they want to know without a doubt that they are going to be getting that look, well, on their wedding day, the one that they hired you for. So they want to make sure without a doubt, and the easiest way you can do that is start filming your client appointments. And if you aren't filming your trial appointments when you're styling or doing makeup on the wedding day, what's actually stopping you there? Let me know in the comments. I'd love to help you out. The next thing that is going to block a Gen Z bride from booking a millennial is you're not optimizing for short attention spans. And I don't see enough people talking about that. Without a doubt, whenever I audit my clients' emails, proposals, websites, or Instagram captions, they are putting in every single word in their head. They are doing 5-page paragraphs. Their proposals read like a 10-page newspaper. Paper with these like blocks of heavy text. And I know, you know, you say to yourself, my brides never read anything, because in this digital age, did you actually know that the attention span when somebody is focusing on something digital— so they're reading an email, okay, they're not on social media, it's just like they're reading something online— the attention span there is only 47 seconds. Now when it comes to the micro attention on like social media, it actually shows that Gen Z's attention span for short-form content is estimated to be between 4.2 seconds and 6.5 seconds. That's 6.5 seconds you have for her to read your captions, stop the scroll, and also only 47 seconds that she's gonna give you of her attention. I would like your undivided attention, please. And when she heads to your website, when she's reading your emails, and when she's reading your proposal with your pricing. Now here's why this is really important for you and what it means, because what I've noticed is they're not reading that. I'm not even reading it when I audit my client's stuff. Big walls of text, nobody is reading that. You need to optimize this for the Gen Z bride, for the modern era. And you know this when you send out an email with all the information and you're like, I'm not going to get any questions, and the first thing she responds with is, so what does that actually include? And you're like, did you read anything? And she's like, no, I'm not reading that wall of text. So here's how to make sure your emails, website captions actually get read. Start using type hierarchy. So what you want to do is start using different font sizing, font pairing. So headings, subheadings, paragraph text, by using different sizing and different font types, you're gonna be able to draw the eye to specific things that you actually want her to read. And this is all just within the design. Next, something I love to do is bold out things in a different color that you really want to draw her eye to. So those points within your email, within your website, bold it out and put it in a different color so she doesn't miss it and cut the fluff. Okay, like literally read through your emails, read through your website, read through your last caption, and literally just read through it. Just read through it. And I bet you probably won't even get to the end because it's so long. So it's like, if you're not reading it, will she? One of my favorite things to do is use bullet points, bullet point it out. And another thing you can do that I tell my clients is you can literally say for an email, copy the whole thing, put it in a ChatGPT, and we're not rewriting it in ChatGPT. We're going to say, hey, can you condense this in the least amount of words possible at a third grade reading level? The average US adult's reading level is around a grade 3. So that's going to simplify everything. And another thing that I typically see is clients are using like really fancy professional words that just kind of like go over our head, or you're using like hair language or makeup language. And they're just like, wait, what? They don't understand it. So by putting it in ChatGPT and saying, say this in the least amount of words at a 3rd grade reading level, it's going to condense it all for you. Optimize for a short attention span. So you can stop clocking your Gen Z brides. Millennials, I'm clocking you. Next, if you're somebody who in your Instagram bio says no DMs, uh, you're literally blocking bookings from yourself. Gen Z is very DM heavy. They see emails as like corporate, professional, like, whoa, this is like business, which, cool, you want to give off that vibe. I'm not saying to stop emailing her. I'm saying make sure you're following up with her in the DMs. Okay, like you send out an email to her, go over to your DMs, and first you should be collecting her Instagram handle within your inquiry form so you can do this. Then you go over to your DMs and you DM her and say, hey, I'm so excited that I'm available for your date. Just want to let you know I dropped everything in your email. Head over there so you don't miss it. So you're just literally bringing her awareness to it. Otherwise it might sit there and collect dust. Because also what I've noticed, especially with my clients, and like even when I'm like with like my nieces who are Gen Z, like they don't have their notification notifications for email on, but they have their notifications on for text and for social media. So by doing this, you're getting her attention. Is it an extra step? Sure. But when you book a $2,800 booking, I think it's kind of worth it for that 2-minute extra step. And with the no DMs, this is something that totally got skipped over in the COVID era because now brides are likely gonna be DMing you before they inquire with you. So if you had no DMs in your bio, you could get away with it because brides were just filling out your inquiry form and booking because they had to. Now they don't have to. They have a sea of options, bridal hairstylists and makeup artists that they can work with. They get to choose. They have the upper hand here. We do not anymore. Now we are back to normal sales and normal sales equals real conversations. And those start in the DMs. So she wants to have a little conversation with you, especially I notice this a lot with Gen Z. They're gonna be in your DMs before they fill out your inquiry form, asking you a couple questions, getting to know you a little bit, probably feeling your vibe a little bit. And trust gets built fast in the DMs. So please stop ghosting your DMs. You have so much money sitting in there. And on the topic of ghosting, stop ghosting your socials. Okay? If you're a millennial here, I see you. Stop ghosting your socials. Okay? If you haven't posted in over a week, it's giving jump scare to your bride. She's like, oh my God, the doors are closed. She shut down her business. Okay? They grew up in a Snapchat world. They grew up in a TikTok world. They are chronically online generation. Okay? If you haven't posted in a week, that's like if you go to a salon and you see a closed sign on their business. Your Instagram especially is like an open sign for your business. So by you staying consistent posting on your feed, having active stories, she sees that as like the open sign, right? And I will never forget, I was doing a bridesmaid's hair and she asked me if I'm available for a wedding date and goes on to tell me that she had hired a wedding hair and makeup team, but she just recently fired them because she hired them, they came as a referral, and then she went over to their Instagram after already hiring them, which on her part, she shouldn't have did that. But the team hadn't posted in a few months and she was getting jumpscared by everything she was seeing on their socials. And they had ghosted their socials, so she canceled her contract because she was afraid, one, that they closed their business and that they weren't open, and two, that what she wanted, she wasn't actually going to get the look. So she was seeing like very outdated looks because she scrolled all the way to the bottom. So don't post your socials. She sees it as your business is closed. The next thing that is blocking Gen Z brides from booking you is ChatGPT captions, the overuse of all of your emojis. Hey, I'm an expressive girly, I love to use emojis, but listen, we can tell the way that ChatGPT does it within captions, okay? ChatGPT has a specific— I don't even know what it's called, like an algorithm, I guess— but the way that it phrases things, you can tell it's usually like in a, in an order of like 1, 2, 3, and they typically will do that with an emoji first for a caption to like get attention, right? So you can see it'll always start with an emoji and then it breaks it out down into like 1, 2, 3. Like people can tell when it's AI slop versus your actual brain and personality. When you're using ChatGPT, it might sound a little bit like your personality. You might be able to train these, especially Claude is better for that. You can train Claude more to sound like you, but if you're not doing that and you're not putting in the time to train it, use your own brain. Right? Like, I would put a caption into ChatGPT or Claude and say, can you condense this down, right? And then obviously proofread it and make sure it sounds like you. You always want your captions to sound like how you would talk to a bride if she was sitting right in front of you. And if it doesn't, that's really going to turn off your Gen Z bride who's looking for that real, raw transparency, authentic. So instead, stop gatekeeping your trial conversations. Like, there's some sacred therapy session. Those are your best way to create captions that are gonna sell your services by telling your client stories of what she's saying in your chair using her own words. Okay, so if you're still here with me, I love you so much. We went over 5 ways that millennials, AKA you, are blocking Gen Z brides from booking you with your social. So what I would love to do is give you a little side-by-side of how you can stop using anti-Gen Z language and start Gen Z coding your content and your bridal business.. So let's run through the quickfire way to Gen Z code your bridal business. Instead of no DMs in your bio, replace it and Gen Z code it with my DMs are open for you. Instead of posting a piece of content that's like here's why I've charged $250 for bridal makeup, let's Gen Z code it and say my bride sat down terrified because her bleach blonde breakage in her bangs wouldn't blend in with her glam wave. So let me show you how we actually fixed it. Oof, that one's so good. Instead of only posting perfect filtered photos or videos, let's Gen Z code it. Film yourself at a trial working with a real bride, showing the transformation of where you started all the way to where you finish, even handing her the mirror and getting that real-time reaction that you absolutely cannot fake. Instead of marketing 5 times award winner from The Knot and WeddingWire, read my reviews, and sending her to a vendor site, Gen Z code it. Screenshot your texts, comments, DMs, and film a video of you handing your bride the mirror and her a real-time reaction that you can't fake. Can we see the theme here? And my favorite of all, let's Gen Z code your email. So instead of in your first inquiry email saying, please note, you must read my full contract before signing. A 50% retainer is needed. Your quote expires in 7 days. Please let me know if you have any questions. Warmest regards. Yeah, let's Gen Z code that first inquiry email. Swap it out with something like, oh my God, I love that dress, and that Glam Wave photo that you sent would be absolutely stunning. I really think we would be the absolute perfect fit. Quick heads up, I do have another bride inquiring. Full transparency here, I only take one bride per day. Use the link below to lock in your date, and if any questions pop up for you, drop them down below. Can we feel the difference? Can we feel the difference from like the old era of brides versus the new era of brides? The main theme here is real, raw, authentic, nothing filtered, nothing perfect, giving the vibe and the experience first, and just literally being human, like personality at the forefront of all things. Now if you want to know exactly where socials and your emails are blocking more brides booking you, grab my personalized blueprint, fill out a couple questions, and in 3 minutes I'll show you exactly where you're leaking bookings in your bridal business. I'll see you in the next one. Bye!
