KEEP THE BALANCE - MARK HAMILTON #13 2024

Mark Hamilton argues that happiness requires balancing work and personal life. He contrasts left-brain drive to create value with right-brain need for relationships, and says intentional balance acts as a compass while you pursue success.

Hi, it's Mark Hamilton, author of the Neo Think books, widely circulated in over 140 countries in 12 languages. Today, I want to talk to you about something I call Keep the balance. First, I want you to identify what's important to you. For me, it is my wife and my children, my writing and my readers, my business and my customers, my health and my body. And now that I've gone public, my videos and my relationship with you. If you believe that happiness is the purpose of your life, which I do, then keeping the balance takes on an important role in your life. Keeping the balance acts as a sort of life compass for me, keeping me moving in the right direction for my happiness. As you can imagine, I get very busy with my writing and my business. And when one of my children or my wife asks me if I want to do something recreational with them, my mental reflex sends a strong initial reaction throughout my body. No, I can't do that. I'm just too busy. That is my logical left brain sending me that message. We have a left brain, that is the more logical in the moment brain. And we have a right brain, that is the creative, more emotional brain and more subconscious brain. I have to, at those moments of my strong left brain reaction telling me that I'm too busy, I have to often work hard to keep the balance. I let my more emotional right brain weigh in and more often than not, I end up doing those recreational things with my children and wife. It could be something so simple as playing pickleball or something more involved, such as an adventure in Iceland. And I'm here to tell you my life is so much more rewarding and happy because of having learned how to keep the balance. I bring this up now because as we move forward on this journey into the Neo Think mentality, you more than likely are going to get more and more busy, powerful, successful. And I know what happens next. You become so exhilarated over your exciting new value creations that you might start ignoring the other very important aspects of your life. You must then work hard to keep the balance. What has helped me keep the balance is an important life lifting, understanding as follows. Value creation. Through our work that delivers happiness into our lives, we are fulfilling our essence as human beings, fulfilling our ability to create and put values into the world. Value reflection with our loved ones allows us to feel our happiness, to experience our happiness, to cash in on our happiness, on all our hard work. So we must learn to harmonize value creation and value reflection, not prioritize. After all, that harmony makes all the difference to your happiness, the true reason for your life. Think about it. What good is simply building happiness without being able to experience and relish in it? Trust me, as someone who is always busy, yet who steps away from it all to spend time with my loved ones, keeping the balance is the best way to live our lives well. I hope that keeping the balance will become your life compass too as you become a busy winner on our journey together. I'll be back soon to continue this journey.
