Short excerpt from a YouTube talk by Mark Hamilton introducing the concept of the "division of essence" as an evolution of the division of labor. The speaker says this applies to businesses of all sizes and positions the idea as relevant to modern (21st-century) work by integrating the mind into labor practices.
You have a division of essence occurring for their little business that's starting our medium sized business or large business. It applies to all size businesses as shown in the book.
I get great reactions when I do this, when I walk through this process with entrepreneurs.
Now remember, the division of essence is, is the ultimate evolution of the division of labor. Division of labor was fantastic. It accelerated the industrial revolution.
It brought about mass production, starting with Henry Ford in the assembly line and really honing the division of labor down to the very specific movements of driving in the rivets or what have you along the assembly line there. And that was a huge boost to human prosperity. But the division of essence, which I've identified in that product is the next leap. It's the ultimate evolution of the division of labor. And it's what we need in the 21st century in this world where we need to bring our mind, the essence of man, his mind into his job. He can't just continue. Society and human race cannot just continue just driving in rivets. We need to now introduce the mind into the physical movement. We need to combine the mind and body. And when you do that, there is no limit.
