Mark Hamilton traces how Henry Ford built the assembly line through small iterations: horses pulling carriages, then pulleys, then gravity-fed methods. Business progress isn't a leap but a creative cycle of solving one puzzle piece at a time.
Chapters
First, I want to talk a bit about something called the creative cycle.
Business.
To grow and advance and to break boundaries. Business goes through creative cycles. Let's think back to Henry Ford when he started his creative cycle on developing what eventually became the assembly line. Well, he started in his shop by attaching the carriage to horses that would pull the carriage along, stop at a station while the men did their part, then the horses would move on to the next station, stop while the men would do their part, so on and so forth. Later, Henry Ford developed pulleys to make things more effective.
And then again later, Henry Ford developed methods using gravity. To start with what became the assembly line, up high and work its way down with the use of gravity, stopping at the stations along the way to let them in and do their work.
This is now a business and we are in a creative cycle.
When a puzzle piece does not fit or is not right.
Then we must continue to work to find the puzzle piece that does fit and is right. To move this puzzle picture forward.
