144: Your tribe affects your vibe
18 Jul 2024 · 30 min
Mart Tweedy recounts a London trip where he got an Aries tattoo, met Fearne Cotton and Rachel Stevens, and experienced a first-class upgrade he sees as manifestation. He argues that surrounding yourself with high-vibrational people amplifies your ability to manifest and sustain belief.

Hello everyone, and thanks so Thank you so much for joining me again for another episode of the pod. As you know by now, my name is Mart Tweedy, I am your host, and last weekend we went to London to do our talk at Happy Place Festival, and oh my god, it was so good. Just a quick trigger warning, by the way, this story is going to involve poo. Yes, you heard right. So the weekend started by me taking a train to London. And the train that I was going down on, let's just say it wasn't the best, okay? So I had me subliminals on me headphones, naturally, I always do, and I basically had my laptop in front of me just trying to work on, you know, that crappy train Wi-Fi that you get, just whilst being packed into my seat with a huge suitcase for personal stuff, a small but super heavy suitcase filled with crystals, flyers, and everything for our workshop, and then also I had a roll banner for Cani Crystals, and I also had a backpack of stuff that I'd need on the train, you know, like charges, headphones, laptop, wallet. So I basically took everything but the kitchen sink. And when I got on the train, there was no space for cases, so I had to put one above my head and sit with the others basically on my lap. So I started to listen to my Luck subliminal because I was thinking, you know, I need all the luck that I can get to let the festival go to plan and without any cock-ups. And no joke, within 10 minutes of me putting this Luck subliminal on, The ticket guy came past us and asked for me ticket, and I give him it, and when I looked up, it was a guy that I had known for, I'd probably say roughly 15 years, called Matthew. We always see each other on nights out, but I don't know him that well enough to just nip around his house for a cuppa, if that makes sense. So anyway, we got chatting, and he asked if I wanted any food, and I thought about it, and I just said, you know, "No, I really shouldn't. I've not long since had breakfast, but thank you anyway." And he went away and he came back a few minutes later with a sandwich, a Diet Coke, a packet of crisps, and a chocolate bar. And he just put them down on me tray table and walked off. So obviously I was appreciative, but I was like, you know, wow, my luck just came in massively there. So that was my first bit of luck, but there is more. So I spent the rest of the train ride down just practicing what I was going to be speaking about. And when I got to London, it was about 1:30 in the afternoon. So I'd agreed to meet Fran outside of King's Cross because we both due to get in at the same time, and the original plan was just to head straight to the hotel, get there for about 3 o'clock, you know, go through our talk together, get some food, and meet Jay later on. Within 1 minute of meeting up with her, the plans had changed. Classic Fran, of course. So I was told that we were going for pedicures. Not my bag, but I thought we'll go with it. So Fran found some random backstreet pedicure place, and in we went. But I had a great time on the massage chairs while she had her nails done. I got a free massage basically. And after what seemed to have been forever whilst we caught up with each other, she announced that the pedicure was now finished and she had also now booked us in for tattoos randomly at 5 PM over in Islington. I haven't had any new tattoos in about 10 years, and the last one that I got done was my sleeve. And let me tell you, it friggin hurt, honestly. So I immediately started sweating, so much so that after we left the pedicure place, I was in that much of a flap that I'd left my phone there. So I started just thinking that someone had nicked it out of my pocket. Anyway, turned out I was lucky. Thank you, subliminal. I got my phone, um, it was just left on the, the seat that I'd been sat in in the pedicure place, and off we went to get a tattoo each. So I decided to get my star sign, which is Aries, along with the numbers 111 underneath. And some of you might be thinking, oh, that's so basic, bitch, but it does have some significance because according to astro.com I am a triple Aries, meaning that Aries is in my first house for my sun, moon, and rising sign. So 111 seemed quite apt. It's an angel number, and Aries is first in all three of my houses, so 111. And after I got it done, I went over to show Fran while she was getting hers done, and she went, 'Oh, it looks like a coil that women put up their vaginas.' So I thought, 'Great, just the look I was going for.' Anyway, I really like it, and that's what matters, because it's on my ankle, so really unless I'm walking on a beach or I'm on holiday, when am I ever going to be showing my ankles off? So you get my drift anyway. Anyway, after the tattoo, we went back to King's Cross to meet up with Jay, who was Fran's PA, and then we headed far out west to Chiswick, which is actually quite a ball ache to get to because it's round about 50 minutes on a tube, and then there's a good 25-minute walk from the station to the hotel. So we got to the hotel By this point, I think it was about 8:30 PM, by which time the restaurant had closed, and as none of us had eaten since the morning, Jay suggested that we get a Nando's delivered to the hotel. So that came, and within 1 or 2 bites of eating said Nando's— I can't believe I'm about to tell you all this, but I feel like I have to anyway because Fran just can't keep her mouth shut about it. So within a couple of bites, I pumped as I was sat on the bed, and the unthinkable happened. I had to run, and I mean run, to the toilet. Now, there is total meaning behind this story, okay? So please stick with me because some of you might be like, okay, too much information. Just stick with it. Anyway, I'm sat on the toilet, Fran is killing herself laughing, and all of a sudden Jay screamed really loudly saying that there was poo on the bed. Now, when I say poo, it was a little yellow smear. Still disgusting, I know, but it wasn't like I'd laid an actual Yule log on the bed. So I got talking to Fran and Jay, and they said, "You know, you might have ulcerative colitis like we both have." So I started Googling some of the symptoms for ulcerative colitis, and one of the symptoms is that your stomach is always inflamed, and it makes you look 9 months pregnant after having the smallest bit of food. And then you can also sometimes get these red, hard little lumps on your arms and legs. And guess what's randomly come up for me in the last couple of months? Yeah, red little lumps on my arms and legs. So I was like, okay, I need to get checked out. I need to book an appointment with my GP. So that's in the pipeline. But where this gets interesting is that as I was talking to Fran and Jay about it, and I think I might have even spoke about this before on here, I think I've somehow contracted ulcerative colitis from just being around them. So hear me out here, please, because some of you will be like, yeah, you can't just catch it. It's not contagious, Mart. So when I worked in a medical legal job when I was about 17 years old, we dealt with road traffic accidents and people putting in legal claims for them, you know, for whiplash and all that jazz. And while I worked here, I must have crashed my car every few months, to say the very least. When I started working in A&E, I was then admitted myself there so many times, almost like I was accident-prone all of a sudden. When I worked in dental, I had lots of issues with my teeth. And then when I started working mental health, I had huge depression and anxiety all the time. So it made me think of all the times in life that I've been around something and almost channeled that energy, if that makes sense. I hope it does. And I've spoken before about how I thought I can channel energy, but I feel like this is something else. It made me think about how being around certain people can really affect who you are. As a whole. So I'm not blaming Jay or Fran for this, by the way, but it's almost like an empath thing where I feel what they're feeling and I absorb that and start living life as though I am them living through it all. So I wanted to talk about how not only does your vibe attract your tribe, you know, as the good saying goes, but how your tribe and the people around you also has an effect on your vibe. I know it's a stretch, but we're going there. So the company that you keep can significantly influence your vibe, and that's going to shape your energy, your mindset, and your overall well-being. So whether you're consciously channeling their energy or simply vibing with them, the people around you can have such a huge impact on your mood, your behavior, and your overall outlook in life. Because we as humans are quite social creatures, and emotions can be contagious. So if you spend time with positive enthusiastic people, you're more likely to absorb some of their positivity. And this actually has a name as well. It's known as emotional contagion, which just basically means that your tribe's mood can directly affect your own emotional state. Being around happy and optimistic people can elevate your spirits and enhance your overall vibe. And you might be thinking, you know, tell me something I don't know, but it's a lot deeper than just this, because the people that you hang out with often share similar beliefs and values, and that alignment can reinforce reinforce your own attitudes and your own behaviors. So when your tribe values positivity or growth or kindness, you're then more likely to embody those qualities yourself. And it's that collective mindset that fosters that environment where positive energy thrives and is continuously reinforced as well. So whenever I'm around my best friend Nikki, we just laugh uncontrollably. Like, I'll pop to see her and within minutes one of us has done something stupid, or we've said something that nobody else in the in the world would find funny, and we'll find ourselves in hysterics with tears rolling down our faces. And that's because we're both on the same energetic level. We both have the same values and attitudes. She's like the female equivalent of me. And similarly, whenever I'm around Fran or Jay, I have such a laugh that I almost feel in a state of euphoria where we can all just be honest and open with each other. And whenever I come home from being around them, I always feel like I can just take on anything. Whenever I go to conferences or conventions and I meet those like-minded people, you know, in business, I come home with so many ideas to implement in my business and just to make Canny Crystals an even better experience for every single person involved. I just love that we can vibe on other people's energies. It's almost like we're feeding off them. And supportive friends and family can also seriously boost your confidence and motivation as well, because when your tribe encourages your goals or they celebrate your successes that creates a positive feedback loop. And that support not only uplifts your spirit, but it also empowers you to maintain that high vibe mindset. And vibing together with your tribe, it just means synchronizing your energy with theirs. So that harmony can create a sense of belonging or comfort. And when you vibe with other people, you feel understood and accepted, and that can significantly enhance your mood and overall vibe. And it's that connection that's particularly strong when you share those common interests and experiences as well. So on a mental health level, regular social interactions with other people that are like-minded can lead to improved mental health because engaging in meaningful conversations, sharing experiences, laughing together, they all release endorphins, and that can obviously reduce stress and increase feelings of happiness within. And the more positive these interactions are the better your overall vibe will be. But not all influences are positive, and it's so essential just to be aware of how different individuals affect your vibe. So if certain people consistently bring negativity or stress into your life, it might be necessary for you to, you know, set boundaries or limit your interactions with them. Protecting your energy is crucial for maintaining a positive vibe, and if you want to know more about this, just have a listen back to a past episode that I did all about protecting your energy. Surrounding yourself with people who uplift and inspire you is a conscious choice. So I just want you to seek out some people who align with your values, you know, encourage your growth and share that enthusiasm for life. Because you have the power and you only— you've got the power and the choice in curating your tribe. So you can create a supportive network that's just going to uplift you and enhance your overall vibe. Anyway, back to me story from the start, and then I'll touch on this again when I tell you what I manifested and why I think I manifested it. So on the Saturday morning, we came down to reception to have breakfast, and after breakfast I went to the woman at the check-in desk just whilst Fran went to the loo. And all I said to the receptionist was, look, there's a little yellow mark on the duvet, please could you just mind ensuring that our room gets cleaned today? And she said, you know, of course, and she asked where we were off to So we told her, you know, happy place. And I said, it's probably going to be a long day. So I just played it out as though, you know, when we get back, we'll have been out of the hotel for 10 hours. And you know, when you get back when you've been out of the hotel for that long, all you want to do is get back and crash in a nice clean room. And just as I said that, Fran came around the corner from nowhere like Creeping Jesus, and she just caught the end of the conversation and she went, 'Oh, so he's told you he's shit the bed, has he?' She said it honestly so loud. I was so embarrassed. I just wanted the ground to swallow us up. Anyway, we made our way into the festival ground, and Happy Place Festival was incredible. We were the first on stage in the mindfulness and meditation teepee, and our talk had completely sold out. Completely sold out. There were still some tickets for some of the other workshops, but ours had sold out. We even asked the organisers if we could maybe speak in the bigger tent next year to let more people in. So here's to hoping, I'm just putting it out there. But anyway, our tent was right next to a Tempur mattress stall, and Fran got on to lie down, and guess who came over to lie next to her? None other than Fearne Cotton herself. It was so surreal. So I asked Fearne if the moldavite that I gave her had brought lots of transformation, and she said absolutely. She said that she takes it everywhere with her So I was absolutely buzzing at that and the fact that she even remembered who I was. We went to the book signing tent after our talk, and Rachel Stevens from S Club 7 was there signing copies of her book. So I thought, you know, I'll do something really nice and I'll pay it forward. So my friend Kate is a huge S Club 7 fan, so I bought her Rachel's book. I got it signed specifically to Kate from Rachel, and we even got a cute little video saying hi to her as well. And Rachel was looking at me necklace. And she said, "What's that?" And I said, "Oh, it's the Aries symbol." And she said, "Oh, I should probably know that, I'm Aries as well." So I went, "Oh, look at me ankle, I just got an Aries tattoo last night." And you know what she said? "It looks like a uterus." So thank you, Miss Rachel Stevens, I'm now scarred for life with a coil/uterus on my ankle. We had such an amazing day anyway. Some of you had even brought copies of my books along to be signed, which was so cute. People were trying to get photos with us as we were on our way to the toilets even. I felt like a little Z-lister, it was so surreal. We were busy scoffing an ice cream at one point and Fran said, 'Mart, someone's shouting your name.' And when I turned around, there were these 4 girls just frantically waving at us. And I find it slightly awkward, you know, because people recognize me and they know everything about me, but I don't know a thing about them. And I find that really, really awkward, and I'm always like, 'Hi, hi.' Um, but anyway, we went over and I said hello, and they were nicest bunch of girls that I had ever met. And guess how they all met each other? Through mine and Fran's event in London last year. They were all sat near each other and they all got talking afterwards, and then here they were at Happy Place all together. How lovely is that? It really made me grateful in that moment, you know, that through the pod and through Cani Crystals, we are building communities of like-minded people. It's so nice that I feel like I found my tribe in you lot. Even though I don't know you all individually. Now, these 4 girls— so we had Tanya, Jodie, Sabrina, and Karina— they elevated our day so much. We were talking about it afterwards, me and Fran, and I was just saying how these 4 had just really made our day. So they were so like-minded. We ended up spending about an hour with them in total, just chatting. So although we were flagging from being up so early, these girls gave us all such a boost of energy. And what I also want to mention here is how surrounding yourself with a positive and supportive tribe can significantly enhance your ability to manifest what you want in life. So the principles of manifestation obviously rely heavily on maintaining that high vibrational frequency. So, you know, staying focused on your goals, believing in your ability to achieve them. So just by being around people who exude that positivity that's going to help elevate your own vibration. High vibrations are crucial for manifestation work because they align you with the frequency of your desires. So when your tribe is consistently positive, it becomes easier to maintain that optimistic outlook, and that's going to be essential for attracting what you want. Supportive friends and even family provide that emotional stability, and that's necessary for maintaining that high vibrational state as well. So when you feel loved or you feel supported, your emotional resilience increases, and that allows you to stay positive even when faced with challenges. So these 4 girls were so positive. They really gave me that boost of confidence. And I think it was Jodie that at one point said, "You know, you're absolutely smashing it, Bibs." And I really felt that in my core. It felt like someone cared enough to just believe in me and to physically tell me. Okay, so when your tribe believes in you and your goals, it reinforces your own self-belief in your abilities, and that collective confidence can truly boost your self-esteem. That's going to make it easier to stay committed to your manifestation practices. So having that tribe just encourages you, you know, that you can stay focused and motivated because their encouragement can serve as a reminder of your capabilities and the possibilities ahead. And that's going to be vital for sustaining that belief needed for manifestation. So when you surround yourself with people who also pursue that personal growth and achievement, it creates a collective growth mindset, and that shared perspective helps you to stay focused on your goals and continuously seek ways to improve and succeed. So that supportive tribe can hold you accountable for all your actions and all your commitments as well. They can remind you of your goals. They can encourage you to take the necessary steps. And that's going to help you stay on track and avoid any procrastination. A positive environment fosters that mental and emotional well-being that's crucial for effective manifestation, because when you feel good, you then think more clearly, you make better decisions, and you attract better outcomes. A supportive tribe also provides quite a safe space to express your dreams and aspirations without fear or judgment. So I had a chat with these 4 girls, and I told them about, you know, my plans for Connie Crystals in the future. And it just felt so nice, and I felt so free to express my dreams. And you know what was happening with Manifest and things like that? That freedom to dream, that openly allows you to fully embrace your desires and to go after them with confidence. So after a really long day at the festival, we decided to call it a day around 5 PM anyway. We headed back to our hotel room, we had a tiny little snooze, and then we got dressed and we went to a little Italian restaurant in Chiswick. Now on the way there, I looked at my phone at one point and I had a text to say that my train back to Newcastle the next day had been cancelled. Not delayed, not transferred, it had been cancelled. So I was deep down thinking, how the hell am I going to get home? But I was on such a high vibe, I just remember looking up and just saying aloud, you know, sort it out for me please, get me home safely and on time. And then I think I muttered something along the lines of, you know, "This or something better." So after a lovely mooch around King's Cross and the surrounding area on the Sunday, the next day, we bumped into more listeners. Fran and Jay both headed off on their own journeys home, and I just went into the station. I went into King's Cross, and I went up to a train that had pulled in that said it was for Newcastle, and there were so many people trying to get on this one train. Just to head back up north because so many trains have been cancelled. So I was stopped in the queue and I was told that it was really highly unlikely that I would be able to get on any train before 7 PM just because of how many people that they needed to fit onto the next one. And bearing in mind this was 3 PM in the afternoon, I thought, great, I'm alone in London, I'm sat here in a train station probably for the next 4 hours. Oh my God. So I went outside and I rang Johnny and I rang my mom just to let them know what was happening. And as I sat outside King's Cross, the sun was beaming down on me. I had my crystals in my pocket. It was so warm. And I just sat there. I held my crystals in my hand. I closed my eyes and I just smiled to myself thinking, what an amazing weekend. What an opportunity to have been able to speak at Happy Place and to meet such incredible people., and to have been able to share that experience with both Fran and Jay. I felt ecstatic in that moment, and for a moment there, I was sat outside King's Cross, it felt like the train didn't matter. I didn't care that I was stuck in London. So anyway, I went back inside, I approached the customer services desk, and I just explained that I needed to somehow get back to Newcastle, and the guy looked on his phone, and he said, "Well, if you head to Platform 0," there's a train that's just pulled in, and if you run now, you might even get a seat, but it's not due to set off until 4 PM, so you've got just under an hour to wait. So off I ran, we're pulling all these suitcases and backpacks and things behind me, and I just jumped on the very first carriage that I got to. So I sat myself down and I was thinking, ooh, this is bougie, LNER, you've really outdone yourself here. It was very fancy, okay, so I had my own solo seat. Seat at the side, I had a little tray table, and to top it off, my chair reclined. Perfect, I thought. So anyway, I got my laptop out and I started going through emails from the weekend that I'd switched off from, and suddenly it dawned on me as I looked up and I saw the little window sticker that I was in first class. Now, I'm not a snob, neither would I have paid that extra £200 for first class, just putting it out there. Each to their own, but that ain't for me. So I got up, I left all my stuff at the chair, and I just walked down into the next carriage to basically see if there was any seats free. And honestly, when the doors opened to the next carriage, there were so many people stood in the aisles not able to find a seat. So the guy came over the tannoy just to announce that because this train was going to include about 3 or 4 trains worth of people, that all seat reservations have now been switched off but you still had to take a seat within your class. So obviously you can't just sit in first class if you don't have a first class ticket, you know, if you just had a standard ticket like I did. So there I am, back at my seat in first class, sat panicking when the train starts moving, and the guy just announced that we were now at full capacity, so we were going to set off. So I just sat back down and I thought, well, it's a seat, nobody was sitting in it, so I didn't want to just go and stand where the toilets are. If there is a seat here in first class, I might as well be sat there. So I thought, you know what, I'll just sit here until I get moved. So I put my headphones on, cracked on with my emails and things like that, and the ticket guy came round about 5 minutes later. And just as he was scanning my ticket, I was kind of packing all my things, you know, mentally, physically, just thinking I'm going to get shifted here. And I was just about to out to say, "Would you like me to move?" and his machine beeped, and off he walked to the next person. He didn't say a thing. I don't know if it didn't pop up on his machine, or I don't know if he just thought, "Oh well, it's a fully booked train, like, sit wherever you want, I really don't care." I think I got a first-class upgrade from the universe. So my phone pinged just minutes after this to say that I'd been refunded the entire amount from my original train ticket purchase. Which was around £80, and that they were sorry for any inconvenience caused. So I just sat there and I just said, thank you, universe. Minutes later, this lady came past with a trolley and she offered me a hot or cold drink with a choice of sandwich. So I made me selection, she popped it down on my tray table and walked off. So I just went, excuse me, I haven't paid. And she said, you're in first class now, dear, and gave me a little wink. I feel like that was a little message from the universe to say, like, "You said this or something better. Well, here's that something better. Enjoy it." I then went on to have dessert and a glass of wine because why not, I felt like I was on me holidays. I almost felt like I was a fraud, but I thought, at the end of the day, it's a minor compensation for my original train being cancelled and all the panic of not being able to get home. So I just silently sat there and I just said thank you internally, and I just felt that sheer gratitude for what had actually happened. Now looking back, I've probably cost LNER so much money this weekend, what with the free food from Matthew on the way down and then the free meal and drinks on the way back. But I loved it. So thank you, universe. But I just think that all of this came about for me because I was so high vibe from spending time in London with friends and listeners, because it just elevated me to new heights. Lights, and as it does when you're around those kind of people. So your task for the week ahead is to find people who inspire and uplift you.
