Mart Tweedy answers five listener questions about why manifestation works for some people but not others. Surface techniques like affirmations and crystals fail when subconscious beliefs and emotional safety patterns work against you. The biggest mistake with money manifestation is not actually believing you deserve it.

Hello everyone, welcome back to another episode of Canny Crystals, the podcast. My name is Mart Tweedy, I'm your host, and can I just start this episode by saying thank you so so, so much to all of that amazing feedback that I've had this last week about Manifestmas, which is my 25-day advent experience through the Academy. I actually woke up on Monday morning, obviously Monday was the 1st of December, which is when it started. I had so many emails, I think there was like 135 emails, I'm gonna say, and these were all emails from people that had just left it too late, and they were saying, "Please, I want to sign up, can I not sign up anymore? I thought that this was like going to be open forever." And I did say in all of my emails that went out, like, the doors are going to close at midnight on the Sunday night, ready for everyone to start, because I didn't want anyone to miss those 25 days. I wanted them to spread it out across 25 days. You know, science has shown us that when you stick to a habit for 21 days or more, you're likely to continue that habit afterwards. It's like quitting smoking. If you quit smoking for 3 weeks, for example, then you're more likely to quit forever. So that was the reason that I closed it. However, with these 135 or so emails, I thought, you know what, I'm going to send people the link. I had over 700 people join. Over 700 of you joined. That blew my little mind. Honestly, it's blown my mind. Um, the feedback that I'm getting through the comments, through DMs, through emails— everyone is loving it. Everyone is absolutely loving it. I'm also in a little WhatsApp group of, I think there's like 60 or 70 people in there from Francesca Amber's Book Club because we doing a Countdown to Riches, the new Rhonda Byrne book, the author of The Secret. And the majority of them are even doing my Manifestmas Advent experience as well, and they've like given us lovely feedback on the meditations and the journaling prompts. It's just absolutely amazing. So thank you so, so much for believing in me. Thank you so much for joining up. And guess what? I'm leaving the doors open. If you want to join and you want to come and get involved with the tapping, the subliminals, the meditations, you can get all, all 25 days for just £10. It's yours to keep forever. Just visit cannycrystalsacademy.co.uk/manifestmas, or you can click the link in my bio across all of my social media. Anyway, earlier this week, I was thinking about what I was going to talk about this week, and because I'm in the middle of doing Manifestmas, because I'm in the middle of doing the 21 Days, um, Countdown to Riches with Rhonda Byrne, I thought, do you know what, I'm just going to leave the floor open to you lot. So I went through my inbox, I've been gathering questions like there's no tomorrow, So, this is a Q&A episode, and just because I've said that, I don't want you to switch off. I want you to, like, listen along because there are so many questions in here. These are the type of questions that I get asked on a day-to-day basis. So, I'm gathering that at least one of these questions— I've picked 10— but at least one of these questions is going to hit home for you, and it's going to be exactly what you need to hear today, okay? So, question 1 comes from the lovely Jenny who says, Why does manifestation seem to work for some people but then not for others, even when they are doing everything right? So this question, it's such a big one, and honestly, I think that it catches so many people out because on the surface of it all, it might look like some people just get lucky. Like, for example, some people might look at me and think, oh, he's got it all going for himself. He's got a business, he's got an academy, he's got a podcast, he's got an event. It's fucking hard. It is fucking hard for me to manifest anything. There are lots of different things in my life that I want to manifest that haven't come to fruition. Probably a longer list, I'm going to say, than the things that have come to fruition. So people might write a few affirmations, they might light a candle, and then boom, their life changes. But somebody else doing all the same things, you know, nothing might seem to move for them. But what you see on the outside is only the tiniest part of the picture. Obviously, it's like looking at someone's Instagram highlight reel. They're only going to show the best parts, aren't they? They're not going to show all the struggles and all the hardship. It's like me, I love to share that side of things because I think that it makes me real. It makes people connect with me on a better level because then they'll think, "He's actually walking through what I'm going through as well." I think the real difference here is rarely the technique. It almost always comes down to what is happening underneath that technique because I work with so many people who can script perfectly. They can script better than me, in fact. They journal every morning. They meditate every single night, they listen to subliminals all day every day, they own all the right crystals for what they're calling in, and they still feel stuck. But when we really dig into it, when I'm talking to them, they're actually operating from fear or desperation or even a deep belief that things are just never ever going to work out for them. So on the surface, yes, they're doing it right, but internally their nervous system is bracing them for disappointment. And this is what it all comes down to. Remember I did an episode on the podcast a few weeks ago about our nervous system and how to regulate it? Manifestation responds far more to your identity and who you are and who you're becoming and your emotional baseline than your to-do list. So if deep down you see yourself as someone who is always struggling, someone who always waits for the right opportunity, someone who always just misses out, that belief is going to quietly run the show in your subconscious even when you are saying all the positive words on top of it. So I'll give you a real-life example from my own life. There was a time when I was visualizing success every single day. I was talking about abundance on the podcast, I was talking about wealth and happiness and prosperity in my talks, I was teaching manifestation, but I still felt constantly stressed about money. And I couldn't work out why that growth felt so slow, because I was thinking, well, I'm doing everything that all these amazing teachers are telling us to do, still nothing's changing. But it was only when I started get brutally honest with myself that I realized I didn't actually truly feel safe with money yet. So when I handed my notice in from the NHS, for example, I thought I'm going to do Cranny Crystals full-time. I handed my notice in, the day that I left I put my all into Cranny Crystals. I revamped the website, I got loads of new stock in, I started sending out newsletters, and guess what? For 2 months I made £1,000 in turnover. £1,000. Those months leading up to me handing my notice in the NHS, I was making about £10,000 to £15,000. So what changed between me handing in my notice in the NHS and my income massively dropping? And believe me when I say this, it all came down to me not feeling truly safe with money. So I'd always getting £2,000 a month on my payslip from the NHS. That's just how it was. That was my energetic income, that was my ceiling, my limit, whatever you want to call it. But I was safe there. I felt safe because I knew that I had that money coming in every single month. However, when I was making these £10,000 months, I was thinking to myself, what if the taxman takes it all? What if I get this huge bill and it wipes me out and I can't afford to pay my own wage? I'm going to lose the house, I'm going to lose my car. There might come a month when, you know, I might not be able to even afford to eat. So all of those thoughts were going through my head, and I just did not feel safe with earning that level of money. So my brain straight away started self-sabotaging. And guess what happened to the self-sabotaging? It knocked my income down. So I was affirming wealth, but emotionally I was still in survival mode. And once I started to work on that, what I did is I wrote out all of the limiting beliefs that I had around earning wealth, okay? And when those limiting beliefs came up on this paper, I would literally go through every single one and try and connect the I would connect the dots back to a childhood experience or something that someone has told me in my life, or something that I've seen in a film, or I don't know, the media or something like that. Like, rich people get taxed more. Money is the root of all evil. The more money you have, the more problems that you're going to have in your life. Yeah? But I think once I started connecting those dots and realising these were stories that I'd been telling myself, they weren't actually fact, Once that shifted, everything began to change far quicker than it ever had before. Now, another huge piece is patience and emotional neutrality as well, because I think people whose manifestations appear to work easily are often the people who are less attached to the timeline. Okay, so what I mean by that is they will take action, they will hold their intention, but they are not gripping onto that outcome with white knuckles, like properly gripping it with the fists. They expect things to work out rather than needing them to work out just to feel okay. And then there's also the mindset of self-trust as well, because people who manifest consistently, they tend to trust themselves more. So they'll start to follow the nudges, they will move when an opportunity appears, they won't just sit back and expect it to come to them. They do that uncomfortable thing when their intuition whispers instead of waiting for a perfect sign from the universe. So they are basically co-creating with life rather than sitting back hoping that it's just going to magically happen them. So for me personally, going back to the original question, if manifestation feels like it works for everyone else but not for you, that doesn't mean that you're broken, doesn't mean that you're blocked, doesn't mean you're doing it wrong at all. It just simply means that there is something a lot deeper for you asking for your attention. Okay, so it might be a belief to be rewritten, it could be an emotional pattern that is still running quietly in the background, it could even be a gentle nudge to start just trusting yourself in a much bigger way than you are right now. But the good news is all of that is changeable. Nothing about this journey in life is fixed. The moment that you shift who you believe you are and how safe you feel to receive, your results can then shift dramatically as well. Okay, so I hope that that answer helped you. The next question I have is from— where is it? Sorry, Tracy. And Tracy says, "How do I get out of a negative mindset when life keeps giving me proof that things are just not working?" So this is where manifestation gets real, because staying positive, I always think, is super easy when things are going well. But the real work is what you do when life keeps throwing you plot twist after plot twist, and you're just sat there thinking, I hear that lesson, but can I have a win now, please? Because the first thing I want to say is this: a negative mindset, it doesn't mean you're failing, okay? A negative mindset does not mean you are failing. It just means that you're human. It's like trying to force yourself into positivity when you're actually exhausted, or you're disappointed, or you're overwhelmed, because that's just going to create emotional pressure. It's not going to heal anything. So what keeps people stuck is not that they have negative thoughts, it's that they believe that every single negative thought is a fact. So it's just like this last question that we've just gone through. Your mind is a meaning-making machine, and what I mean by that is Your mind's job is to scan for danger, patterns, and proof. They're the 3 things that it looks for. Danger, patterns, and proof. So when a few things go wrong in a row, your brain is going to very confidently start to build a story that says, "See, nothing's ever going to work out for you," and it'll feel absolutely true in your body. Now, that shift doesn't come from arguing with that voice. It comes from learning how to pause and gently question it. So be curious with those thoughts. So instead of thinking, "Nothing ever works for me," you'll start to learn to say, this feels really hard for me right now. It feels so fucking hard, but this moment is not my whole life. It's just a tiny little blip in the matrix. Okay, that one sentence alone can completely change your nervous system response. And trust is when I say this, like, I've had seasons in my life where everything seemed to stall all at once. Like, my sales have dipped, my plans have fell through, my energies felt flat, my brain went straight into this is all collapsing mode. And every single time when I looked back later, at a later point, like months later, I can see that those moments were actually the reset before the expansion. I think I've said this on a podcast before. I don't know if I made this up or if I've read it in a book, but— did I make it up? I might have even made this up myself. I might have to trademark this. I say it: the dive before the thrive. So it's like that dip before you go back up. It's like if you're on a roller coaster, for example, you've got to go up that massive hill to go down the massive drop. Yeah, you're not just gonna drop and then just keep on dropping and dropping and dropping, or you'd end up in bloody hell, you know what I mean? So you have to go down to come back up the other side. So it's basically like the fall before the flight. But when you're in it and you're in the middle of all that fall, you know, you're in that dip, you're in that downward spiral, it doesn't feel spiritual, it feels stressful. So I think one of the most practical ways to shift a negative mindset is just to change what you're feeding your nervous system, not just your thoughts. That means your sleep, your food, your boundaries, you know, saying no to people, your workload, your environment, even the conversations that you're having on a day-to-day basis, even how you talk, you know. Are you speaking negatively? Are you saying, "I can't do that, I can't afford that, I can't go here, I can't, I can't, I won't, I don't," you know, all those negative connotations, like, linked with those words? Because if your body is overstimulated or it's burnt out, your mind will automatically skew that negative. That's not a mindset problem, it's a regulation problem. It's a nervous system regulation problem. Another powerful shift is moving from, you know, that state of, "Why is this happening to me?" into, "What is this trying to teach me about how I operate?" Not in a victim-blaming way, but kind of in a self-leadership way. Every single emotional reaction is a data point. It shows you where you still feel unsafe or unhealed or unresolved as well. And lastly, I would say you don't rebuild a positive mindset by waiting for life to improve first. You know, that's insanity. It is literally the definition of insanity. If you are going to do the same thing day in, day out, and expect different results, that is the definition of insanity. Yeah? So no matter what you do, you cannot build that positive mindset by waiting for life to change first. You build it by choosing tiny little bits of evidence or safety and progress every single day. It could be a boundary that you held. It could be a hard conversation that you survived. It could be stepping out your comfort zone. It could be a moment where you had a one-on-one with someone and a little chat, and you didn't spiral from something that they said that triggered you. It could be a choice made from self-respect rather than fear. Those are those little bricks that rebuild your belief in yourself. And once your bricks turn into a wall, you've got that coat of armor. So if life keeps giving you proof that things feel hard, what I want to say is the work is not to gaslight yourself into pretending that it's all amazing. That's toxic positivity. The work here is to stay compassionate with yourself while you rebuild that emotional resilience that says, even when this is messy, I'm going to trust myself to navigate through it. Okay, so I hope that that helped you. The next question, question number 3, is from Donna, who says, Do I need to fully believe before something will manifest, or is doubt normal and okay? So I want to say this really clearly because this is one of those questions that I get asked probably on a weekly basis, right? It's one of the biggest reasons I think that people silently give up on manifestation as well. You don't need to be in perfect, unshakable belief for things to work. Doubt isn't failure, it's just part of being human. So most people think that they have to feel 100% all of the time. They've got to feel confident, they've they've got to feel positive, they've got to feel aligned. And then the moment that they start to wobble, they think that they've ruined everything. You know, even if it's just 1% of doubt, they think, "Oh well, I've screwed that up now. Manifestation's not for me." But manifestation doesn't require perfection. It responds to consistency and direction far more than emotional flawlessness. Think about it like this: you can get in a car, you can start driving towards a destination without fully trusting the entire journey. You might still check the sat nav every now and again. You might still feel unsure about the route. You might even think, "What if I get lost?" But you are still moving in the general direction of where you want to go. So, movement matters more than confidence. You're still going to get to your destination. It might take you a little bit longer. Yeah. If you have to reroute your, you know, the route that you're taking, but if you are still heading in that general direction, that matters more than the confidence. So what slows manifestation down is not doubt itself. It's when doubt becomes who you are as your identity. So there's a difference between, "I sometimes doubt," and, "I'm someone who never believes that good things can happen." One is a little fleeting moment. The other is a blueprint. And I've had so many moments in my own life where I've been visualizing something while simultaneously thinking, "Will this actually work though?" And honest truth, some of my biggest breakthroughs happened during those seasons in my life, not because the doubt wasn't there, but because I just kept choosing to show up anyway. So I was almost like silencing this doubt by saying, "I don't believe it's not going to happen. I'm going to keep on trying." Belief grows through evidence. It doesn't usually arrive first. We so often expect to feel confident before we act, but in reality, that confidence is actually built after you see yourself survive or cope or stretch yourself. And receive. Okay, every single time you follow an intuitive nudge, even while you're doubting yourself, you're training your subconscious that you are safe to trust the process. Doubt isn't always a mindset problem. Sometimes it is your nervous system saying, "This feels unfamiliar." That's all it is. New levels of success, love, ease— they can feel just as unsafe as struggle if your system is wired for survival. So your body might resist even when your conscious mind wants something really badly. The real work isn't trying to eliminate the doubt, it's just learning how to move along with it, to say, "I don't fully trust this yet, but I am willing to try," because that willingness is what's going to help. That willingness is incredibly powerful. So going back to your question, no, you don't need to be perfectly aligned, you don't need to be endlessly positive. You don't need to be immune to fear. You just need to keep choosing the direction of what you want, even on the days that your belief is quiet. Because manifestation isn't about never doubting yourself. It's more about not letting that doubt make all of your decisions in your day-to-day life. Okay, so I hope that that helped you there. The next question, let me get it up. That's what she said. Um, well, it's not what she said, it would have been what he said. Um, where are we? Jessica. Jessica has asked, what is the biggest mistake people make when manifesting money and abundance? I love this one. I think I've probably covered something quite similar to this, um, in the past. I've done lots of money episodes. If you haven't listened to them before, go and listen to them. There are some great nuggets of wisdom in those episodes. But what I see is the biggest mistake that I see over and over again is people trying to manifest money while still emotionally arguing with money.
Money.
So what I mean by that is they'll say, "Oh, Mark, how do you suggest that I win £1,000? I need to manifest £1,000 by Christmas," for example. So they want abundance, but they resent the system, or they might even feel guilty about wanting more, or they might worry about being judged by their friends and family, or they could subconsciously believe that having more money will make them a worse person. So on one level, they're attracting but then on the other level, they are pushing it away. So it's like a 50/50 split. So what I'd say here is money is not just currency. It is an emotional relationship. It brings up safety, worth, power, uh, trust, control, fear. So if your nervous system— this is a huge episode about nervous system regulation, really, isn't it? Um, but if your nervous system associates money with stress or lack or doubt instability, fear, then even when more of that starts to come in, your body might tighten up instead of relaxing. And it does for me. It does for me all the time. You know, what your body resists, your life tends to reflect. And I see this a lot with people who say that they want to be wealthy, but they feel deeply uncomfortable charging properly for their time, their skills, or their energy. So I was working with someone one-on-one last year, and she was doing so much for her community, she was doing so much for her members, and she was putting out free content. And this free content, I'd said to her, I was like, well, why don't you just charge £5? I was like, you're getting about 100 people signing up to this every single month. That would be £500 in your back pocket that is going to obviously cover your time to create this stuff that's in the membership, the website costs, the credit cards and debit charges, the VAT that you're paying. And she was like, "No, I just want to give it away for free, but I hate doing this work." So I asked her, I was like, "Well, why do you hate doing it?" And she went, "I'm just so stressed. It's a huge capacity issue. I haven't really got the time to be doing it, but I want to give to people." And I said, "I feel you 100%, but you cannot give to someone from an empty cup. You need to charge something so that it makes it worth your while, so then you don't go on resenting it, so then, you know, you're not ending up in this constant cycle.". So people will overgive, they'll undercharge, they'll discount themselves into burnout, and then they'll wonder why that abundance feels so far away. That is not a strategy issue, that is a self-worth issue dressed up as generosity. Okay, another common mistake is waiting to feel abundant before you act abundant. So people will say, "Once I have more money, I'm going to start investing in myself," or, "Once I'm stable with my finances, then I'll take the risk." abundance doesn't come from playing it permanently safe. You've got to take risks every now and again. Obviously, I'm not a financial advisor. I'm not saying go and get a credit card, go and spend willy-nilly, okay? It just comes from learning how to move with both courage and discernment, even when things might feel a little bit uncertain for you. So there's also a huge misunderstanding around effort as well. Some people think manifesting money means sitting back and just waiting for it to arrive. Others think it means hustling themselves into exhaustion. But in reality, sustainable abundance lives somewhere in the middle. It's inspired action, not forced action. It's moving because you feel guided, not because you feel panicked. You're never gonna manifest money from a state of panic because it's a state of fear. And I've been in seasons in me life where I've tried to spiritually bypass my relationship with money. I've told meself I was trusting the universe, but really I was just avoiding looking at me numbers or me habits or me boundaries. And the moment I started treating money with a bit of respect and honesty, not that fear or avoidance, everything started to change for us. Me stress levels dropped, me growth accelerated at the same time. So what I'm trying to say is the truth is money responds powerfully to self-trust. When you trust your ability to handle it and to keep it, and to grow it and nurture it and circulate it with integrity, it's going to flow a lot more easily. But when you're constantly scared of it, or you're suspicious of it, or ashamed of wanting it, it's going to stay tense in your life. So the biggest mistake is not just a lack of affirmations or rituals, it's more around trying to manifest money without healing your emotional relationship to receiving, worth, and safety around money., and when that shifts, the numbers often follow in ways that feel far more natural than people expect. So I hope in a roundabout way that answered your question. The next question is from Trisha, who says, "How do I use my crystals properly for manifestation rather than just letting them sit around my house or collecting them?" So I love this question because so many people feel secretly called out by it, don't you? I mean, look around your house right now. Have you got crystals on a shelf? I'm literally looking at my shelf right now and it's got, I'm going to say, in the region of 20 to 25 crystals just sat there. These are crystals that I don't use on a day-to-day basis. They sit there, I go around and I cleanse them maybe once a month. I don't work with them. Okay, listen, there is absolutely nothing wrong with loving crystals, being drawn to them, enjoying their beauty, building a little collection for yourself. But when it comes to manifestation, we are not just going to sit those crystals up on that shelf in your living room or your bathroom or wherever it is and expect those crystals to work for us, okay? Their power is activated through intention and relationship, not just ownership. Buying yourself a crystal, sticking it on your desk, sticking it on a shelf, it's not going to do much for you, okay? Crystals are not magic wands that do the work for you while you sit back and wait. I said it. Does that hurt? Does it feel uncomfortable? I hope it bloody does. Crystals are amplifiers. They strengthen what you are already putting out through your thoughts, emotions, and actions. So if there's no clear intention behind them, they're just sitting there in your space, they're just holding neutral energy. You might as well be sat with a doll of Mr. Blobby on your living room shelf. Doesn't make any sense, okay? Using crystals properly starts with clarity. Before you even pick one up, ask yourself, what am I actually working on right now?. So think, is it confidence, money, healing, boundaries, love, peace, motivation, success? Your clarity is what is going to tell the crystal how best to support you. So then there's the relationship part, because the most powerful way to work with crystals is consistently, not sporadically, consistently. One crystal on your desk that you consciously connect with every single day will do so much more for your mindset than 10 that stay in a drawer and only come out once every blue moon when you remember. So touch your crystal, hold it when you're thinking about your goal, let it anchor you back into your intention when your mind starts to drift. I always say crystals work best when they become part of your habits, not just part of your decor, okay? So keep one by your bed, keep one in your bag, keep one where you journal or you meditate, keep one where you work on a day-to-day basis. Not because you're dependent on it, but because they become those gentle little reminders of the version of you that you're stepping into. Another important piece here is emotional honesty. So if you're working with a crystal for abundance, but every time you think about money you feel anxious or resentful or defeated, maybe use that crystal as a tool to sit with that feeling rather than bypassing it. Just hold it in your hand and ask yourself, What is money bringing up in me right now? That awareness work is where the real shifts are going to happen. I've seen so many people have massive breakthroughs simply by choosing just one crystal, setting one clear intention, and actually just committing to daily connection with it for a few weeks instead of constantly chasing the next one. Okay, focus beats quantity every single time. And I'd say lastly on this question as well, You don't need to wait for the perfect ritual. You don't need candles. You don't need to wait for a full moon or a new moon. You don't need to wait for the 11th of November. You don't need to wait of 8/8 day. You don't need incense, a full altar if that feels overwhelming. You can just sit on your sofa, you can hold your crystal, you can breathe. Just consciously choose the energy that you want to lead with, because that alone is powerful. Crystals support your transformation.. They don't replace it. So they basically meet you at the level that you are willing to show up for yourself, okay? So I hope that that answered your question. I've just realized I am 30 minutes into this episode. I'm sorry that my answers are so long, but I hope that they're useful to you. So what I'm going to do is I'm going to split this episode up, and next week I'm going to do the other 5 questions, um, from— well, there'll probably be more than 5 questions, to be honest. I could fill up the whole hour if I really wanted to. But I'm not going to bore you like that today, so don't worry, we will come back to this next week. So if you've enjoyed this episode, please do leave me a rating, a review, follow the podcast, subscribe to it wherever you're listening to so that you get the notifications every single Friday. Acast powers the world's best podcasts. Here's a show that we recommend. With.
A photographer in Texas earns an extra $47,000 a year shooting Star Wars cosplay portraits. A teacher in Maryland turns her woodworking hobby into a 5-figure side income without leaving the classroom. And a couple in Pennsylvania will rent you backyard chickens for the season so you can try the egg-laying life without commitment. My name is Chris Guillebeau. I'm the host of Side Hustle School. I share these kinds of stories every single day. In detail, with full transparency about the numbers. The point isn't just to inspire you, it's to show you what's possible. Proof that ordinary people are quietly building extra income in surprising ways, including a few ideas you can borrow. Less than 10 minutes a day, every day.
