Food waste produces more greenhouse gas emissions than airlines because it releases methane, a gas 60 times more potent than CO2 that trees can't capture. Most people don't realize this, and the speaker argues we need better public education about where climate damage actually comes from.
I think if you went and did a poll of Americans, certainly restaurant owners, and said like, which causes more greenhouse gases, the airline industry or food waste in this country? It's like, no, it's actually food waste. And it's like, and by the way, you know, the greenhouse gas emissions, it's methane from food waste. Yeah. You know, trees sequester carbon and like actually remove it from the atmosphere. But when you waste food, it creates methane that doesn't, you know, get sequestered. And like, It's, you know, 60 times worse for it than carbon, or it speaks to how much we as a society have to learn on this subject and a gap that we need to close.
