Matt Ryder identifies four pitfalls that wreck high-ticket sales careers: burning cash on expensive inbound calls with low close rates, the feast-and-famine cycle from poor follow-up, selling ethically questionable products, and mistaking rented Lamborghinis for actual wealth. Start with outbound instead.

One of the more toxic things about high ticket is the high stakes and expense of inbound calls. If you are someone who is new to sales and you are on $600 a book call and you close 1 in 10, that could be $6,000 a book call. Chances are you're just gonna end up churning account after account. In order to avoid that, we wanna make sure that we start off with an outbound or something that's lower stakes. Number 2, feast and famine. If you don't know how to do follow-up, get referrals, do outbound, you're essentially at the whim of marketers and marketing is always going to be in cycles. Number 3 is the ethical gray zones. You get pressured to sell a lot of shitty things. We lost a whole bunch of good reps, they were selling something that turned into a Ponzi scheme and they kept selling it because they were making $100,000 a month. There is this realm of selling dreams to idiots. You have to avoid that trap. The last one, the commissions versus reality, the lifestyle mirage. Don't chase after people because they've rented a Lamborghini. You have to learn to see through that. And if you like the kind of content that I do, then I have a membership. We do live Q&As, coaching call nearly every single day, well over 100 videos. So if you want to check that out, go for it.
