$300k Business in THIS Storage Unit | Day 0

Mike Andes launches a $300,000 lawn care franchise in Charlotte with nothing but a storage unit. On day one he posts job ads, interviews his first hire, and lands his first estimate. He's aiming to hit $1,500 a day before handing it off to a manager.

I'm traveling 3,000 miles across the country to build a $300,000 lawn care business in just 30 days. This Augusta lawn care location needs to be making $1,500 per day before I can hand it off to a general manager and go back home. I'm starting with no employees, no equipment, and no customers to prove that systems build great businesses.
So we're gonna put up a betting meter right here. Currently, I'm betting $500 our luggage is coming correctly.
What? You don't think they're coming?
500 bucks?
Really?
Yeah, man. Oh, dude.
Oh, man. All right, 500.
Dude. Yeah, man. Pedal to the metal. Let'.
We found our Airbnb, but there's no instructions on how to get inside. There's no check instructions, but there are check out instructions. Oh, how to get inside. Here we go. Door code is. I'm not gonna tell you.
Currently 70 degrees, not a cloud in the sky in the Pacific Northwest. And here we are in the south, pouring down rain.
Alright, day zero, spinach omelette. It's gonna be great. However, I can't eat anything else until we get our first paying customer. This is a tale of two diets. We have pizza for Zach. We have spinach omelet for me. It's crisp to perfection. Okay, so we could go command center. Kinda got everything set up for me in terms of my website, my phone number, all the rest of it. The good news is that we literally already ranked number two spot on Google for South park lawn care. Great. Bad news is that we had Google Ads up for the past week and I have gotten exactly zero leads, which means there's probably not a lot of demand. And it's mostly because we're already past the spring rush and most people have already got their lawn care service. So tomorrow, day one, we're really gonna have to get very, very scrappy. I'm probably gonna go to Craigslist, Facebook groups and just really, we have to. We have. I do not have the time to spend two or three weeks just getting our first few customers. I've got to get an employee within the first week. Got to get things moving faster. And unfortunately, we can't wait on online ads to do the work for us right now. Within one hour, one hour of me posting an ad on Indeed and Craigslist, we already got our first applicant. Let's go, baby. There are other things that have to be done in all the other businesses during this. What is it? 30 day challenge. So, copilot, one of our developers is trying to Immigrate to the United States. He's a killer, amazing developer. So we're gonna work with them and try to see if we can figure that. In the meantime, locally here in the old South Park, North Carolina, we got Angel.
Martinez. He has applied to work with us. He ran his own landscaping business for three years. He goes by the name AJ But I like angel because at this point, we need an angel. Well, his resume is pretty basic. It's like a generated one by Indeed. So it doesn't give me a whole lot. He got his college high school diploma in 2014. So doing basic math, which obviously I don't have very much capability in. He would be like 28. I know everyone in the comments. He's talking with his mouthful. Well, yeah, like, this is my last meal before Purgatory.
Hello?
Hey, is this angel speaking? This is Mike Andes. I had talked. He applied for Augusta Lawn Care. A physician, indeed.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. How you doing?
Good, good. I didn't know if you were available by chance today that we could meet up sometime. Probably.
Probably not today.
Okay.
Memorial Day, and I'm spending it with the family and all that, but I was.
Now, y' all got a Tick Tock page, don't y'?
All? We do. We have tick tock, YouTube, the whole nine yards.
I think I've seen, like, a lot of Yalls videos on Tick Tock. And I kind of like, when I. When I saw the ad on Craigslist, I was like. I was like, I've seen these guys on TikTok. I mean, you all are very, like.
Very, like, well, professionally, like, put together. I mean, no, I mean, now there is like a lot of other, of course, big name long care companies around Carlo, but, like, from them, compared to y', all, I mean, y' all are probably like a little. A lot more put together, if that makes sense what I'm saying.
You know, I appreciate it. Yeah. So, like, I didn't know if you. If you looked at the ad too much, but actually. So I'm the CEO of the entire company because it's a franchise. We have 130 locations around North America. And so if you've seen any of the TikTok videos, I'm the guy talking, but I'm actually keying down to North Carolina because we're starting a location from scratch. And then my goal, though, is to get it started next 30 days. We're kind of doing it for video and for the media side, but I do want to hand that off to a general manager once I leave and it would actually function as its own location.
Okay.
Okay.
So you're the guy that I also, let me get straight. I'm talking for the guy that does all the narration on TikTok videos.
You got it. The guy that's half balding, 28, 27. 28 years old. Right in there.
Listen, I wasn't gonna bring up the comment about you.
Yeah.
But I mean, yeah, I've dealt with, you know, the downside of, you know, running a business.
Hiring and firing.
How long are you gonna be in the Charlotte area for?
Yeah, so I'm here personally till the end of June. So basically, the goal is to kind of get it ramped up over the next 30 days to a couple guys and kind of get on its feet. Because we're trying to kind of document with the video the process of getting started. Because so many times, like, I make videos or other people make videos, and they already have a big business, and there's not a lot that's actually for the guy just starting out, like, literally with nothing in his pocket, trying to get his first truck, things like that. So I want to kind of film that part, but then hand it off to a general manager that wants to actually run it locally.
You know, I want to go somewhere where I'm going to be appreciated, someone that's going to like that, be willing to, like, sit down, listen to my ideas on how to, like, not only better the personnel, but better the company and, you know, someone where I can grow it. And, you know, like I said, I saw your ad, and I was like, okay, you know, this seems like this is going to be, you know, like, the perfect opportunity for me.
Right? Yeah. And what's kind of cool about this location is we have five general managers just on the north side of Charlotte. They're already in operation. So it's kind of cool because they'll get together a lot. Every week they do, like, a call together and just kind of bounce ideas off of each other and, you know, share their numbers and things like that. And then what's cool with Augusta in general is if you work for two years for any location, you're able to start as a franchisee for free. So, like, that would be in the cards if you ever actually want to do your own thing. But honestly, like, the general manager position starts to become pretty lucrative after year one and two, because, like, obviously, like, you know, that first year, you're growing, you're getting trucks, you're buying stuff, all the rest of it. But as it becomes profitable, you get 25% of all of that. And so it's really up to you. How big do you want to grow it? Like, I give all the general managers a lot of freedom. Like some of them want to grow million dollar businesses, others want to stay around, you know, two, three trucks and have, you know, four or 500,000 annual revenue, but profit 150 grand. And then they get to get a quarter of that. Right. And so it's really. We give the. Really. The general manager, in my mind is the one that drives the ship. And then our goal is just to kind of accommodate and you'll give guidance along the way. But I'll text you and we can set up a time maybe at 5 o' clock or something like that, tomorrow evening and then just meet in person.
All right, bud, Sounds good.
All right, brother, we'll. We'll talk soon. Take care. That was crazy, the fact that he knew us from the TikTok, dude. Oh, man, Please don't ban TikTok. We need good, good employees.
Interesting. So, yeah, like, like I said, I'm gonna call. I am concerned by the fact that he's dealt with such heavy equipment before and we don't. And I know he seemed like it's not a big deal, but that I know that will become a bigger deal because we don't do big projects. It's not as fun. And so after a year or two, the initial position of being a general manager wears off and it's like, okay, now I'm doing a lot of the same stuff I'm doing just mowing. I used to do big excavators and you know all this stuff, right? Dozers. So my other bigger concern, honestly with him, was his ability to communicate there clearly as a laborer. He'd do fantastic based upon just the communication side. But from the perspective of a general manager, I do need someone that can speak with the crew, can motivate people, be very quick on their feet, talk with customers. If that was a phone call for a follow up phone call to a customer, you gotta be quick, right? So I'm not saying that that cannot be taught though. So I definitely worth talking to him within one hour, one hour of me posting an ad on Indeed and Craigslist. We already got our first applicant. Let's go, baby. You know what the worst thing about this challenge is? That if I actually hit it, everyone's gonna say it was staged and we set everything up and if I don't hit it, then everyone's just gonna clown on me. And you know, Say I'm a fool. So it's kind of a lose lose situation. All right, let's go find some storage units.
Wow.
Hi. How's it going? Good. I was just wondering what you all had for in the way of storage and then also if you have the ability to have us where we park our trucks here too. Like pickup trucks. Priscilla was great. Five stars on Priscilla. Three stars on the fact that we can't put a trailer inside of the unit. And I only have one spot for trucks. So 2010 by 20 unit for only 240amonth. Not bad. $90 a month for parking a truck. There's only one available, so it's really not.
We can make it work. If we park the one truck with the trailer at our place and then we left the one with the ramp rack here, we can make that work. Okay, well not ideal though because we can't put both trucks here. So let's try to find another spot. This place closes in eight minutes. Morningstar Storage. Oh, is this thing right here? Dude, who puts words like that on their sign? Can you even read that? Dude, it says 2pm and it is 1:55.
She's not gonna be very happy.
Sorry, we know it's like right before you closing we had a quick question. Did you have any spots available for like 10 by 10 or 10 by 20? Like larger spots?
Sorry, we hate to be those guys that come in right before you close. 10 by 10 or 10 by 20. And then also if you have spots for an actual like truck parking like car, that's the only parking that we have. Okay, I do have four 10 by 10. But I only have two 10 by 20. Okay, and are those 10 by 20s accessible to a vehicle or they're indoors.
Indoors.
Two enthusiastic thumbs down. They were not happy that we showed up five minutes before closing. In fact the door was already locked. And so the future tenant parking with a good sales package but didn't work for us because they only have indoor parking. Like what's up with that?
Like what in the world? Obsufucate. Ob. Obsoo. Opsu. Obsucation. It's like let's just keep all of our customers out by making something so hard to read, it makes people feel stupid. Your IQ would have to be over 5000 just to read our sign. Let's see what the definition is.
Opsification refers to the act of deliberately making something unclear, confusing or harder to understand. Alright, so we're gonna have to give this place a two star out of five. I give them two Instead of one because they opened up the door for us at least. But I have to give them low stars because it wasn't 2 o' clock and they were closed. And then furthermore, there's no space to drive up to the storage unit. They're all indoors. We don't know. Got no time for that. We need a place to drive up to. Oh, Jaden's gated. I don't know. It's good there.
Grab the glue.
But it looks kind of a little bit run down. I can hear them that.
Full service. Whoa, dude.
Oh. Let's see what we got here.
Ooh, I need assistant. No, do I want life assistance.
Ooh.
Hey. Now this is high tech.
Hi, girl.
Welcome to Boston.
Oh, wow. Cool. Hey. That is so cool.
Hi.
Hi. Okay, awesome. Okay, I'll head over there right now. Do you need anything else from me? No, you just let the phone call that you have some reservations just because your phone number is five out of five stars, baby. We're gonna go two miles away. The fact that I didn't have to talk to anybody. I was gonna do a reservation. I was gonna see all the pricing up front and clear.
It's a beautiful thing.
So let's drive over there and let's see if it's actually gonna work for us, because I think we got a winner.
Dude, I feel good karma. I feel like we're gonna get a sergeant and we're gonna walk out and there's gonna be a lead sitting in our inbox. I'm calling it. Hello? Good, good. I got a reservation a couple in I just placed at the one of the other facilities for a 10 by 15.
Yeah, it's for this location. Yep. Jumping. Give me my name. Yeah. Andy's. Mike. Michael. Andy.
Zach.
Dude, Zach. Check this out.
Called it, bro.
Wait, did you get it?
Yes. Oh, that's awesome. First customer. Let's go.
Welcome to my hustle commode.
All right, this is gonna be home. We've got salon pair of styles part for the next 30 days. This is the interior unit. 10ft wide, 20ft long, and we're gonna crush it, baby. Here we go.
You know I'll never fit in where I go at.
All right. In the past three hours, we went from zero.
To 60. Just like that. We got our first applicant where we're gonna interview them tomorrow. We got ourselves a storage space, a parking space, and our first estimate on the board. So now we're gonna head home, change into the uniform, and go sell a job. Let's go.
And shout out To Lucas. We met him at the storage facilities literally right across the way. And he's a watcher and a viewer of the channel. So. Hi Lucas, if you see me over the next month and you're in the Charlotte area, please stop and say hello like Lucas did. It's a lot of fun.
Okay, so command center put notes on here. They're like 5,800 square feet of turf. But they're looking for a landscaping job they put as a drive by because she filled out a form on the website and then they called back and left a voicemail. So I requested specifically that drive by estimates. Still we put my schedule so I can follow up with the Right away because I need to eat.
At the tone, please record your message. When you finished recording, you may hang up or press 1 for more options. Hi Lauren, this is Mike with Augusta Lawn Care. I'm the estimator and they said you wanted a little project done for your landscaping. I'm going to be over in your area in about 30 minutes, so it's quarter past 4 o' clock right now. I'll try to get over there a little before 5 o' clock and if you're home I can touch base with you and see what we can do in terms of helping you. So should see me in about 30 to 40 minutes and hope to see you soon. Take care.
Alright Lauren, here we come. So that's the customer's house. Unfortunately she wasn't home, just her husband was and he had no idea what she wanted. So I guess I'm not gonna be eating tonight.
