Mike Andes advises service businesses to require a card on file so clients cannot avoid payment. He explains that at Copilot they enforce obtaining a card on file and a deposit before an estimate is accepted, which prevents overdue invoices and allows charging the card when the job is complete.

We're going to require card on file so they don't ever have the option of not paying me, right. When that job is done, I'm charging their card. And that's why at Copilot, we make sure that before the customer even accepts the estimate and you get notified, you're getting a card on file, a deposit is paid, and then you get an accepted estimate. Then I know I will never, ever have overdue invoices.
