Short transcript excerpt of a YouTube video (uploaded by Mike Andes) capturing a coaching-style confrontation between Mike Andes and a business owner/manager. Andes identifies leadership and communication as the company’s constraint, points out behaviors (cutting people off, condescension, not praising positives) and advises concrete changes including apologizing and giving positive feedback. The exchange is direct, corrective, and action-oriented.
The leadership is the constraint of the company. We've identified that.
I've been described as the nicest boss they've ever worked for.
Now we're going to fix it. We're gonna have to actually apologize for cutting people off. Actually apologize for coming across condescending because you do like a lot, I'll be honest.
Wow.
The way you talk to the guys comes across very condescending. Just when you're giving basic instructions. Wow. And it is in part just like you give your opinion before asking a question. You cut them off, you roll your eyes back a little bit like this, and they just feel like less than. Wow. These are little things.
Yeah. I'm genuinely shocked. What I tell you what you do when you get to job site, you never say anything positive. It is always what is going wrong. Well, they do something good after you.
Do that, thumbs up.
But after you don't hear, they get all the hang on criticism after you do that, thumbs up, 10 minutes later, it's something that's going wrong. Hey, how fast did you. Oh, that's not fast enough.
