Mike Andes argues that businesses refusing to adapt to economic, technological, and organizational changes will fail, especially in recessions. Fear of losing control stops most owners from delegating scheduling, estimating, and hiring, even though those who embrace change dominate their competitors.

What I would be looking for if I was you is one thing. Just take one thing away from the entire conference.
Talk a lot about that tomorrow. Change is necessary ingredient to the recipe of business success. Change is a necessary ingredient to the recipe of business success. And never be afraid of it. Economies change, weather patterns change. We got like global warming or whatever. There's changes in the climate, employment levels change, staff change, marketing methods change. And your business must change with it. If your business doesn't change and there's all this change happening in the economy, in the hiring process, in technology, and your business is not changing, you will go out of business. Yes, you're going to ride the coattails of a good economy for a while, but when a recession comes, you'll get knocked out if you haven't made the necessary changes. And the problem, the reason why most people don't make the changes is because they're fearing change. They're afraid to let someone take over scheduling and routing. They're afraid to let someone else do estimates. I'm afraid of letting people do estimates. It's the last thing I've let go because I love sales and I'm good at it and I've done it for so long. But guess what? There's probably a really good portion of individuals and customers that look at a 23 year old and say, I don't know about that. You're gonna build a $40,000 wall and you're how old? You're younger than my youngest grandchild, so I gotta step back and be like, okay, I think I'm so good. But, but there's probably someone that can do it better than I can. And that's just. We have to step down as business owners out of our ivory palace of thinking we're so amazing. But at the end of the day, you have to change. And the reason people don't change is because they're afraid of it. And change will eventually wipe your business out or it'll make you dominate your competition. One of the two things, whether or not you're afraid of it, I'm hoping we can change in this conference.
