MAKING PROTEIN BARS TOGETHER

Mike Andes and Brianna make keto protein bars together while talking workouts and business. They fumble through the recipe, laugh at the results, and mix in conversations about their strategies and personal lives.
Chapters
Good morning.
It's Monday and I just ran stairs. This is out. Welcome Falls Park. Beautiful place. Usually Brianna would come with me. Her knees are hurting a little bit from last week's vlog, which is the spartan race. So she was gonna go lift at the gym, but usually she'd be here with me. I try to come here once a week and then do trail running once a week during the summer because it's so beautiful in the Pacific Northwest. Fresh air. It's amazing. This week is what we call a cool down week.
It's where we have six week sprints and in between those you have a week of cooldown. Now, it's not like we're sitting on our hands doing nothing. But you're shaping the next sprint, figuring out what the parameters are for the next upcoming sprint of work. And you're also reconfiguring things inside your workflow that you might have pushed off during the last sprint because you're trying.
To get stuff done.
So last sprint we had a whole bunch of fast follows on estimates for copilot. We had the paid in full feature come out. We have a whole bunch of improvements to speed of the system that are coming out this week because those kind of get pushed off a little bit in wait for the cooldown period. So a whole bunch of stuff I'm working on. I was able to have finally get another call with my coach, Dr. Trevor Cashy. Awesome. Put a picture right here.
Let's go.
That's from a couple years ago when he was able to come do conference. But he's been neck deep in.
Alex Ramosi's book that's coming out. And so it's been quite a while since I had a call with him. Probably five, six months. So looking forward to getting back in call with him. Looking forward to it. Look at this weather. Pacific Northwest from now till October. Beautiful.
Testing, 1, 2, 3. Test day.
Not going to sound a lot different up there. Probably the microphone.
Can you hear me chewing gum? In either our first vlog ever or second, we filmed going to Mike's apartment units and emptying the quarter holder in the laundromat area. Every other month we needed to do it. So it's that time. Let's see if I can get these things open because last time they got very stuck and I don't know if we ever resolved why. I think yeah, they're just really old and they honestly probably just need WD40 or whatever. So anyways, I have the keys. Let's do it.
All right, folks, I Think this is the right key.
Number one, there's a decent amount in there.
Number two, I think this is the one that got stuck last time. This is definitely it. All right, we're gonna come back to that one. So seamless. Check it out.
Last time there was a good amount of like, it was probably 10 minutes straight of footage that I cut of us trying to get into this one. Of course, after I turn the camera off, I got the fourth one, but I'm still like, look, the key is not even going in all the way. So I don't know if there's any jam. But we had this exact problem last time. And I called Mike to see if he remembered what we did. And it was like there was a certain technique to it. You know what, I might just have to go back and watch our vlog, just see how we did it. I think it was our first one.
Oh. I never explained how we got it, but last time it was like a 10 minute ordeal, basically just trying to get one open.
Let's go. Love it. And of course, it's the one that's probably like the most filled.
Here's the bag. Gonna take it.
To a gas station and figure out how much we have.
2:35.
So one thing that's been like super top of mind the past couple months is we are now getting owners inside of Augusta Nation, are able to invest inside the business. And there are some of the engineers, et cetera, on the team that are getting interest in terms of equity and options in the company. What that means is if something happens to Michael, when you make sure that there's an actual plan in place to make sure the whole thing doesn't come falling down. And I don't think it would at all, given the planning that we've been doing. So just making sure that there's plans in place around who becomes a CEO, how does the board of advisors get set up, where does equity go, all those sort of things. And so one of the things we've been working on today is making sure the revocable living trust is set up for myself, for Brianna. So I'm sure tonight we're talking, we're going to go to the lake. It's going to be great, very romantic. And we're going to talk about what happens if Michael dies. So, yeah, it's always a little weird having those conversations with team members, with obviously, Brianna, but very important and I think just like an evolution of the business as we now have, like, you know, investors, we have stakeholders and people outside of Just myself that would be impacted. And so today was like a lot of legal stuff, talking to family and team members and leadership teams to make sure everyone's on the same page. Obviously that the media would take the biggest hit because the Mike Andy's channel, when Mike and he gets hit by a bus wouldn't do so well. So, you know, how do we pivot that so that we still bring in leads to the companies and switch to more of a paid marketing strategy and make sure that the media team doesn't lose their jobs. And so, yeah, that's going to be kind of the current strategy. Some people were thinking because we had Mike Andy's AI mikeantes.com AI that that was like a good strategy for in case I got hit by a bus. Actually wasn't thinking about that. But it is a good idea because it has all of my content, all of my information, and you can ask any question. It gives a pretty accurate answer of what I would say. But yeah. So that's been like very top of mind. It's part of this sprint. Something I have to figure out, nail down. So that was. That was the big topic of conversation today. Very, very fun. We'll see how it goes. Walking around a lake on what would otherwise be a date night, discussing these things. Very fun.
We just did date night. Friday is our date night.
It was great. I had a pork chop with bone in was great. And gem lettuce salad.
It's okay. First of all, it's at this really unique place here. They change their menu out seasonally, so at least like four times a year. And they make everything in house. And it was so good. Anyways, so we're going to end the night by watching the new turnaround episode. We're going to make a presentation.
Shout out, shout out. Stephen, he crushed it.
The goat.
He went overtime as always on the Friday and make it happen. We watch it now. Crew perspective, you know, pay them more. Being able to get them more efficient. Yeah, yeah.
On the run here at Lake Padden.
It's beautiful.
It's completely glass.
All right, back to it.
Here we go.
Hello.
Guys, it is Saturday and I'm currently at Lake Paddon. Mike is running laps around here. I got up at 5 to go on this really nice long hike. It's like six miles round trip or one way. Either way. It's closed off right now because there's a landslide going up to it. So probably won't be open until like end of summer, which is unfortunate because we were going to use it to Train for the next Spartan, being that we're signed up for the beast now, which is the 21 kilometer. So.
It was just. It would have been an ideal terrain because it's so, like, it's kind of a difficult hike, maybe like moderate. The knee is still recovering. Tried to jog a few times, and it's not gonna happen. So we're just kind of doing a brisk walk right now. Just still moving where I can did legs yesterday, and I had to go pretty light. It's kind of frustrating, like, whenever you know what your body is capable of. But that's kind of on pause right now. But recovery is equally as important as getting movement in.
All right, today's mother's Day. There was only one service at church. So what are we doing this afternoon? We're cooking together. So if our relationship ends after a day, you'll know why. I think it would go well, though. So we have preheated the oven. We came up with a very good recipe. It was like carnivore ish Below calorie.
Very good. And. And we went to Fred Meyer try to get egg white protein. And ChatGPT said they had it, but they didn't. Shame on them. And so instead we're doing gelatin something. I don't even know what we're doing. Some sort of gelatin stuff, but we're gonna make protein bars that are low calorie and keto slash. I think it might be carnivore friendly. I think it's carnivore friendly. Now, usually in the kitchen, Brianna does the vlog. So we're gonna pretend like we're Brianna. We rolling?
We rolling.
What we're doing today, you gotta say it again. I pushed record late.
We're making a keto protein bar.
I already said that off the top of my head.
There's egg whites I'm substituting.
We'll show them the recipe.
Okay, Just a screenshot.
Let me tell you about every detail of this protein bar.
Why am I here? Okay, let's get started. It's supposed to be eight.
We always clap, and we always do this.
And we snap. Let's go. And they're gonna be like 130 to 150 calories per bar. Eight bars, 15 grams of protein. I just did that subconsciously.
All right, let's get the ingredients.
Told him that chatgpt is responsible for this.
I did it. Okay, Well, I told him, Chad, DBT said that Fred Meyer had the protein, but they didn't.
Did Michael show you guys this carnivore sushi that he found on Facebook. It's an abomination. Calorically, I believe in carnivore, but that is an abomination. This is gonna substitute our egg white protein powder, so fingers crossed, it actually works. The PB Fit powder.
PB Fit?
Yes.
The pure or the original?
The one that's open. The original.
Well, this is not. How much do you need?
Two tablespoons.
Just about two tablespoons.
And then I need coconut oil.
So this is definitely then not carnivore because we're using that.
It's more keto.
Is that the only carnivore thing?
That's the only non carnivore thing.
So carnivore minus peanut butter and coconut oil, actually. All right, what's up next?
The allulose and vanilla extract.
Allulose, vanilla syrup.
Okay, I found it.
Wait, there it is.
Coconut oil. Let it focus. Lighting. Biting, everybody. That's the only reason? Yes. The bread pan.
Egg whites, gelatin, peanut butter, vanilla.
A cup, a whisk. A food scale, because we're precise. One cup of liquid egg whites. Costco sells these. One cup. I'm hoping the same measurements translate.
Like half. Hashtag tbt.
If we're substituting powdered protein. Egg whites, egg whites, egg white protein powder for gelatin, is it a one to one ratio for replacement?
Substituting egg white protein powder for gelatin isn't typically done on a one to one basis since they have different properties.
Can you speed it up?
Sure.
They have different properties. Gelatin is a gelling agent while egg white protein.
Can you talk faster?
Of course. Gelatin gels and thickens while egg white protein powder adds structure and protein. So the substitution ratio depends on the recipe and the texture you're aiming for.
Okay, so we're trying to make.
Protein bars, and they're baked goods. So what should. What should the conversion ratio be? Yeah.
Okay. The recipe call for one half cup of egg white powder. So how much gelatin do I need to replace that?
Got it. If the recipe calls for half a cup of egg white protein powder, you typically use about the same volume of gelatin powder. Around half a cup.
Okay, whatever.
If you have any more questions while you're baking, just let me know.
No, he's useless. We're gonna do a little bit less than half a cup just in case. He was like, a little less than.
Half a cup is a good start.
No, turn him off, please. He was like, it is not usually the same ratio. Oh, actually it is. Half a cup is half a cup. Okay. Two tablespoons of peanut butter powder. So this is 13 grams. You're going to weigh this. I don't want to use. Nope. I have the skill. I don't want to use any more.
Utensils than you have to.
Oh, you know, less dishes to wash. That's a hack.
You guys.
If you're lazy like me, use a food scale instead.
Yeah, right. I think most lazy people would just use a tablespoon.
Okay, 13 grams exactly. That was beautiful.
Is that really how much it's supposed to be?
Yes.
Well, it was like less than two tablespoons.
That's two tablespoons. Okay, see? Two tbsp.
Tbsp. Thank you. One tablespoon of coconut oil. So this will be 15 milliliters. I want to measure this one exactly though, cuz oil is coort.
You know, cheesy baby.
Good.
We're at 8, 78 milliliters. I don't know why they don't do grams in oil. I mean it's the same thing.
12. Wait a second. Milliliters is a volume is from liquid, not weight.
What do you mean?
Yeah, but not all liquids are the same. Like viscosity. Density.
Viscosity. He says my husband's smart.
Do you realize that? Right? You're weighing something.
Milliliters is for liquids.
But not all liquids have the same weight. Not all. One gram per million. That's water.
Oh no, I didn't really recognize that.
Okay, we're at 14. 15. 15. Okay, we'll do 15. 2 to 3 tablespoons of alulose.
Did you put the.
Oh no. Can I have that? Thank you. So we're going to say a tablespoon of that. It was 13 grams. So I'll do 26 grams. But that's a different weight than that. But they're powder. No, but PB fits like twice. I'll just do 30 grams. I'll you. 30 grams.
That's not a very good measurement.
You know, you can always add sugar. You can't take it out. This is.
This is always.
Okay, Chat. GPT is ruining our lives right now.
Can you do how much does two tablespoons in grams? How much does two tablespoons of alos weigh?
Two tablespoons of allulose typically weigh around 24 to 26 grams exactly.
Those mistakes. You said 30.
It's more dense per volume. 26 at first. Go back, Chat, go back. See what I said?
13 grams.
So I'll do 26 grams.
20. 25. We'll do 25.
The sweet spot, you know Compliments. So marriage is all about compromise. All I know is that PB Fit is much lighter per tablespoon than alien.
Oh, no. Vanilla extract, baby.
What about it?
I need it.
Oh, did I get the wrong stuff?
Yep. Pinch of salt.
Salt. We are not cooking with Crisco. We are cooking with vanilla.
Don't cook with Crisco, guys. That's an expression that I. I like it.
I. I say that at least once a day now for the team. Say, we're cooking with Crisco. Okay.
I don't know how this is going to be a protein bar, but it just needs to bake. And it says that I can add cinnamon or cocoa powder. You want either one of those to flavor it up?
Cinnamon or cocoa powder?
Yep.
I'm gonna go with cocoa powder, so that's good enough.
Just gonna eyeball that part. Oh, do you think this is. This has protein bar potential?
It seems like it's gonna make one protein bar.
It says it's gonna make eight.
Eight agent is gonna rise in it. There's no. Nothing that's gonna actually make it rise like a bacon.
It's not meant to rise. Protein bars are not fluffy.
They're just really.
Then why do we put them in the oven to bake?
And so it's not like this. Should I taste the batter? Should we taste the batter?
Go ahead.
Nor sweetness compared.
I mean, I kind of like it, but you might think otherwise. It's not bad, right?
Needs more sweetener.
Really?
Get that monk fruit.
This is supposed to be protein bars.
Eight. I don't know where eight should be.
Hey, if y' all have ever tried the Quest protein bar, this seems like one serving. So this is gonna be better than any of that.
Hey, you're not supposed to say bad things about people. What if they want to sponsor you? I don't.
I don't want their money. Bad products.
Hey, once they improve, they can come back.
Other YouTubers make their own product and they just collaborate with the brand. They should let me make a protein bar.
I'm pretty sure they made a billion dollar brand on the back of Quest. And they did decent. Although I have to agree with you about their muffins. Their muffins?
No, I tried their cookie dough.
The bars. The bars are too like.
So now you put it in a.
You know, in a bread pan. That's what it says.
But honestly, flavor is not bad, right? Am I right?
Confirmed.
I think it'll be decent.
I think so too. The batter does not taste bad. Yes. I'm using my Fingers. You want me to sprinkle chocolate chips on one side?
Yes, we have upgraded.
Stevia chicken chips.
See, we make sure this is on camera so when people come over, they don't just come eat my food because they ate.
We just make food as gross as possible.
No, we touch it with our hands so they don't want to have any.
A few. That's a lot, you know. That's okay. It's. Your sides need to be baked 20 to 25 minutes. We'll do 23 minutes.
Why don't you do 20 and then just check on it?
Okay, bless. Boom, boom.
Oops.
Oh, I don't know how to work my own oven. Hey. Alright, see you guys in 20 minutes.
I don't know if you guys can tell, but it is so jiggly. Look at that.
Look.
I don't think it's a supposed to be like that.
Probably bake it for another like three minutes.
We'll see.
Okay, Mike's sinking up right now. There's 30 seconds left. I'm gonna go ahead and take them out because that was like, I think 24 and a half minutes total. So hopefully they turned out okay. It's a little less jiggly, so I'm gonna let it cool. You can see where I poked holes.
In it so it would bake a little better.
I'm gonna let it cool, cut into it and you're supposed to refrigerate it to store it. So we'll see. I feel like the gelatin was not the move.
But that's okay.
We're gonna learn. All right. We just got back from a walk, had to take a little intermission, you know, let the protein bars cool and we did dig into them a little bit beforehand. Not gonna lie. Let's just say they're pretty gelatinous. You know, the taste is actually not bad. It's just.
The texture is interesting. So I told Mike that my new goal is to make him the best protein bar he's ever had. That's keto, carnivore, no sugar, etc, high protein, whatever, whatever. Anyways, we will show you us taste testing them for the second time and we'll act like it's our first. Okay. First time trying it. You know, Michael side has copious amounts of chocolate chips.
Copious. They all sank to the bottom of this gelatinous mixture. Although once it's settled, it's better. It's better now.
It's an actual bar, you know, but that's the texture.
The part that is not gelatinous. Like, the outside, like, crispy.
That's the review. I would give it a 5 out of 10. Flavor's good. Texture is weird, but it looks even weird.
Mm. 5.2.
Okay, there we go.
Taste is not bad. The texture is weird.
I'll come back to you guys once I perfect this recipe.
You're eating writer's block.
No ideas.
I got two. I gotta get a third one, though.
That wig throws me off so much.
You like the blonde version of me being?
Not quite.
First one is Karen saying on the estimate of follow up, the customer saying, like, I'll call you back. So the noob would be like, okay, yeah. If you have any questions, give us a call back. Right. The pro.
I'll reserve your spot for next week because I know this is important to you, and I'll give you a call back on Monday to check back in. If you don't take it, that's totally fine. Next one, I'm not gonna give you my bank information or my credit card information as a customer. And the noob is like, yeah, no worries. Just put a check underneath your mat or give some cash to the crew. And then the pro is says, hey, we usually require a credit card and file just a To become a customer. But you know what I'm gonna do today? I'm gonna send you the invoice, pay the whole thing up front, and then we'll go ahead and get you on the schedule. But you do need to prepay it. So that's the pro move.
You know, you need little pink bows.
I know.
Just living my best little hair clip.
I can get you a hair clip.
I'm living my best life over here, folks. Also, we even got a monster energy drink hat for the. The new. This is the pro hat, of course. So I've done two out of three. What do you have any idea ideas for carrying the customer? Honestly, really? This. Anyone that wears hair on their eyes. This feels so weird.
It gets in your eyes. Yeah.
Actually tickles your eyeball.
You've done one where Karen's, like, accusing them of not showing up to do the job. Right?
Yeah.
I could do. I could do another variation. You know, why don't you just do.
Part two to something that you've done?
No, part two is gonna work. As soon as you see part two, people slide by it.
Oh, I guess it's fair.
That's fair.
They want more context.
Yeah, I could do that. Like, you didn't show up. Yeah, yeah. You.
You've recommended to me before. I could just do the same content, but reformat it. Yeah, a different font, if you will, you know.
Okay, so.
Wait a second. I was in the middle of making a story, asking for other advice, you know. Okay, that's it for the vlog. Okay, enough behind the scenes. You know, Karen's over here getting a little confused. Karen? You know it.
Oh, my goodness.
