METNAL BLOCKS: Why You Can't Grow Your Lawn Care Business

Mike Andes breaks down mental blocks that trap lawn care owners in inefficient patterns. You either don't understand a process like flat-fee pricing, or you know the problem (turnover, delegation) and avoid the hard work to fix it. These blocks keep you stuck in 100-hour weeks instead of building systems that work.

What is mental blocking? So I'm talking about mental blocking and cognitive tunnels before we get started, because I need you to kind of start challenging the way that you've been thinking for nobody who's thinking the same way for 29 years. It was all wrong. It was all for naught. I don't want you to wake up in 10 years and realize you've been running your business the wrong way least efficiently and running other people into the ground. What is mental blocking? Sometimes when I talk to a lot of landscapers, mental blocking sometimes is really just not understanding something right. Like, so you just block it out. It's like, I don't really understand fever feet, so I'm not going to do it. Like, it's just easier to do hourly or furthermore, I just don't understand how to hire people and screen them and have a system. I'm just going to block that out. And in your mind, you create a mental block. You create a cognitive tunnel that keeps you distracted in the thing you need to address in your business.
And sometimes maybe you understand, but you don't want to confront the issue. Like, yeah, I know I got problems with turnover, but, like, I don't really want to confront it because I got to be nicer. I gotta change the way I act. I gotta change the way that I team meetings. I gotta start delegating and trusting other people. So maybe you're not ignorant, but you just don't want to confront the issue. You don't want to do the deep, hard work that it requires to make the changes in your business. Don't think that this weekend is going to be some magic wand. And Pete confused is going solve your problems with pixie dust. It takes a lot of hard, deep work to make those changes. Changing someone's mindset and the way they look at their entire business is so hard to do. It's going to completely change the way you look at your business this weekend. Completely. I truly believe that. And so what I'm trying to get you to realize right now that doing the same thing you've always done and creating mental blocks around the things you know need to change, change the fact that you work 100 hours a week, you know, is not going to be good for your relationship. And if you create this mental block, like, I'm just not going to confront it. I got to do this, I got to make the money, I got to provide, and you just create a mental block to just hide that part of the business.
