Mike Andes and his partner tackle a $1.1M tree-pruning company struggling with turnover and unclear pay, then head home to Washington to deep-clean, organize, and furnish their new house. They shop for furniture and a home-gym cable machine while Mike experiments with AI productivity tools and time-blocking.

Personally, I wanted to thank Tori. I want to thank the Long Haul representative who's doing an outstanding job. But I think we have—
I'm hiding in the bathroom putting together meal 5 while Terrell films Mike's thoughts before we go to coaching tomorrow. It has been such a long travel day. I am so ready to get ready for bed because we have an early, early start time tomorrow, so I'm gonna How'd you sleep last night? Bad. It's bright and early. We're about to head out and it's cold. What are your predictions for the day? My prediction?
Well, he has a good business. It's gonna be definitely different episode. I think it's gonna be mostly revolving around leadership. He can't find— employees aren't staying long. They're making a bunch of mistakes. He hasn't really got any management. He's in that wilderness of like $1.1, $1.2 million in revenue. So it's either A, going to be, hey, no more $250,000 a year in profit. You gotta go hire some management and take a bit of a haircut personally. Or it is going to be, we gotta fix systems around pay for performance and labor.
You heard it here, folks. Put your predictions in the comments, even though you have literally no idea about this guy or what he looks like or what his video submission was like. Put your predictions in the comments.
Let me know. And have this little lull of time where the operations manager can just get good at what he's doing, and then we accelerate again next year. I agree. Getting someone like Carter ramped up this year and getting him from the 34 to the 36 to 30 and 40 next year, where you're completely out of operations— he is hiring, he is training, he is responsible for all callbacks, like all of that I agree, Elijah, accelerate. This year is not about, oh, I've got to go figure out how to like create systems. You hate doing it. All right, turnaround 1 done.
Well, our part anyway.
Our part is done. So now we have 2 vehicles when we go to a place so that way afterwards we can leave the site and not to wait for their interviews. And then Terrell, he heads out with the owner to job sites, etc. Turnaround today was a $1.05, just over a million dollar business. And really profitable, honestly, but hitting up against the constraint of not being able to find managers that want to work for him. So a lot of it is just him learning the skill of management and compensation models for a good operations manager, an admin person. I thought it was good. It was like kind of like I described to Terrell, it was like the 2.0 version of a turnaround, which is like they don't need— they don't have like problems financially, but he's struggling to find meaning in like the work that he's doing and making the money and like what's What's the next step? How do I help my team? And not being so adversarial with his team because I felt like that's what a lot of it was. Like, he's so resentful of them not doing a good job and things like that.
I thought it was great coaching, but definitely like he's a character, but not in a like, oh, this is gonna make a good dramatic story way. He's just like entertaining. Yeah, but what do you think the audience is gonna think of him?
Um, I think people will not like him at first, but then they'll like him. He's a hard worker, he's growing fast, he just has some like rough Fedges is a personality that like some people will push against. That's why it's been hard for him to find managers.
Tell me you've been in a car all day without telling me you've been in a car all day. Sorry guys, I've kind of been forgetting to give updates, but basically we drove from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia all in one day today. It was only like 5-hour drive total, so nothing too crazy. I am still wiped regardless. The guys went to again. They should actually be on their way back right now. And I just, uh, ate my meal here. Currently meal prepping. Let me tell you guys, I've been eating the most radioactive food recently, using a microwave to cook everything, including egg whites. Yummy! They're so little liquidy. So I've been nuking all my food. It's been pretty phenomenal. But anyways, tomorrow is the second and final turnaround for this trip. It is a tree pruning company, so that'll be really cool. I don't remember if I've ever been on a turnaround trip where we've done a tree pruning company. I miss our house so much. I just want to get back in there, unpack the rest of the boxes, and organize everything. So very much looking forward to that. But, um, the trip's been going good regardless, so that is the update. Wow, I was going to show you guys the beautiful sunrise and now it's kind of covered by trees, but that is our first Philadelphia sunrise. We're on our way to the second and final turnaround and And Mike's actually done coaching calls with this applicant in the past. Also, what's up with Pennsylvania turnpikes? I've never seen that anywhere else but here. Like, every time you get off the interstate, you have to go through one of these, like, almost toll situations.
Yeah, it's so weird.
Anywho.
East Coast transportation infrastructure is literally my worst nightmare.
West Coast is the best coast, let's just say that.
Yesterday we drove to the gym, took us like 20 minutes, and we turned at least 40 times. Up and down hills, through residential areas.
Guys, there's like—
can we not build a freeway, for crying out loud?
Yeah, so Mike's done a couple coaching calls with this guy in the past, and based off of that data he has, he's not very sure really if this guy's gonna follow coaching.
We didn't in the past, right? Boggles my mind. I said I paid $2,500 to talk to him for like 40 minutes, and then I, I say like, look, I have all the data to prove like you should probably change this on your website, and then you didn't change you know, breaking stuff and stuff like that. Like, that would be enough to like make it more affordable, have more money, because I really think that we can do over a million this year. Okay, so I think the first thing is when I see a 72% close rate is like we have an easy price increase.
What is up, folks? We are back home in Washington. We are— do you have the yesterday? Um, I honestly don't remember clip of that last because I was actually a little bad at filming this around. I apologize. That was probably like the fastest turnaround trip that you guys have ever watched. Sorry about that. That's on me. That's on me. I'm trying to be a little bit more present in the trip just to make sure, you know, things are going smoothly, things are rocking and rolling. So we're back home, almost. We're in— oh, I caught you guys! Oh no, now you're crooked. Now we're good. We're an hour away from our home, and I'm so excited to go home so I can continue to unpack and do a Huge Costco haul because we have like no groceries at home. Do you have any updates you'd like to give?
I worked on AI a bunch today. So, I'm creating this daily thing that's gonna prep me for all my meetings in the morning. Then I did better time blocking for when I have to do media stuff. And then I'm using Manus to scan my calendar, my Slack, all my messages, and all my email. And it is filtering it based on when I'm supposed to actually look at them throughout the day so I don't see them in the inbox. They only come in when I'm supposed to check them. So instead of the email coming to me, I come to the email. That's right. And then I get a daily report sent to my Slack along with my, my AI coach telling me what I should be focused on that day.
If anyone is gonna find a way to optimize his calendar or be more productive, it's gonna be this guy. Good morning, you guys. I am so happy right now because I I feel like now that we're back home, I'm getting back into the groove of things and I'm actually able to like reorganize our home. We did one of those things where like whenever we move in, we just wanted to get everything in here and we'll figure the rest out later, meaning like organizing everything. We briefly mentioned it in our last video, but whenever we first moved in, we did not have hot water. Thankfully, um, a service tech just came and turned it on for me, so I've been spending the past couple hours deep cleaning the sink, our fridge/freezer because it needed it badly. Finally have the dishwasher going, so I will never ever take hot showers for granted. I literally texted Mike this morning, I was like, hopefully this is the last like cold shower I'll have to take. And then like right after that, the service tech knocked on the door, so it was good timing. I need to get the rest of everything in order. As you can see behind me, I opened up everything to show you guys, but it's kind of a mess. Like the spice cabinet, which I'm so thankful to have, by the way. I love that I can just pull it out as a drawer now. It's a mess that needs to be fixed, so we're getting there. And then all the pots and pans, it's not good. Same for where the cups and then my old spices are. That's the gist of it. There are plenty other drawers that just have like cutting boards, pans, everything just scattered in there. And if my space is not organized and it's super cluttered and messy, I feel like that just messes with me mentally. And I like to have everything clean and organized and everything has a place. So I did a big shopping spree on Amazon for organizational stuff, and I'm sure I might need a few more things after, but I'm just gonna like chip away at it, use everything I have, and we'll go from there. Okay, I'm moving a little crazy, so let me unpack all things and check back in. This is the tiniest little Allen wrench I've ever seen. This makes me so happy. Um, unfortunately my lids are— have like a pretty high handle, so that is a little funky. Funky, but where the pans are, it's so like nice and orderly. This is pretty cool. I'm a big fan of this one. This is amazing. Maybe I'm a little OCD about it, but oh my word. I now have these pots to take care of, so let's put this one together. Are you kidding? Like, this makes me so happy. That is so satisfying. I just need to figure out which cabinet I want to put that one in. I like where I have my pans. It's like right underneath the stove, which makes the most sense. So I definitely want to have them close by. There's this nice deep corner cabinet that I could put them in, or this actually might be good. Actually, this might be too short. I'll probably put it in the corner cabinet for now until I find a better alternative, if there is one. Definitely making progress. It looks so much better, and thankfully no assembly required for this one. This is just an aesthetic bin to put a roll of trash bags into. Love it, love it. This is going underneath the sink. Oh yeah, so much better. This makes me so happy. Oh, I'm so excited for this one. So this is a plate rack. This is currently what the cabinet that is storing our plates look like. All of our bowls in the dishwasher right now, but it's just like this. So let's try to make it look a little bit better. So much better. I absolutely love the plate organizers. The bowl area is obviously still a little messy. I have two other shelves that I can utilize, but you know, we're little people and this is a lot easier for us to access. So over here I also organize our cups, and I really, really like these shelves, so I might get one to organize the bowls with. But like, that looks so much better than it did.
All right, we're doing my most favorite thing in the entire world— we're going shopping.
Better yet, we're shopping at HomeGoods. I'm so excited.
Pray for me.
Okay, here's our goal. We're looking for several pieces of furniture including a thin entryway table, 4 bar stools, a dining room table which we probably won't find here, a rug. I don't expect to find any of those things.
Don't we need— I think it's the side of the bed.
Oh, we do need nightstands.
Welcome to our crib. Why does every HomeGoods look like this? Guess price. No looking, no looking.
$600?
Pretty good. $499. All right, this is the very, very important decision, folks.
I want like a braided like wicker texture.
Wicker.
They're easier to clean.
Yeah, that was exactly my thoughts, honestly. Oh, man, so we play peekaboo. Sits back here. Oh, oh, oh, where's Banz? Oh, there she is. Oh my gosh.
Hey guys.
Hey, hey, hey, where you going? Hey.
One of us has to be the adult here.
Hey, hey, hey, you gotta make it fun and exciting.
Treats.
Oh my goodness. All right, so we need some stools. Oh man, like these. Wow. Oh my goodness, this tree's $279. There's real ones for that much. Shop like a VIP. Oh, more art. Okay, embellished art, $129. Good deal, good deal, good deal. Oh yeah, it's beautiful, beautiful floral. So pretty. That's not bad, not bad at all. Oh, it's nice, it's nice.
They actually have a decent rug selection. Like, there's one that I actually really like. Okay, I think I might get the one online first. Okay, bar stools. See, it's not bad. I called it, I called it, I got it on camera, Benza.
Yeah, I said Benza, like this one.
I didn't even measure. I should have measured, but I feel like this would work if they had 3 more. I wonder if they have 3 more in the back. That's a little disappointing. That's okay, we can go look at organizational stuff.
Oh, fine. So many options. So many options. I can see the big differences between all of these. There are big differences. Whisk, whisk, whisk, whisk, whisk, whisk. Big differences. More whisk, whisk, whisk, whisk, whisk.
Definitely, it's gonna be $143.96. We have to compromise. I had my fun over at HomeGoods, and now Michael gets to have his fun at the sporting goods store. Well, they're checking out the workout equipment to grow our home gym, and this one's actually kind of cool. Like, obviously it's not commercial grade, but it's pretty good quality and incredibly versatile because like obviously it's a cable machine. You can do rows down there, then you have like the pull-up bar situation, this bench press, then you can do your deadlifts here. Here.
As long as we don't go over 300 pounds, baby, we'll be okay.
I don't think that's in the cards for either one of us. That would be a crazy bulk.
How much is this? $1,000? Do the $1,000. The cable machine is $1,200 and you get all the cables. This is more meaty though, like big time.
What just happened?
Uh, there's a, uh, new group of owners that got together, like 10 or 15 of them, and it's funny because they brought a cutout.
That's hilarious.
Hilarious. That's That's Sam. Sam's one of the new owners from this year. That picture is like at least 7 years old because that's when I would—
Oh, right!
I wore these pants when I lived in the— Oh my gosh, that's so cool! But see, that's actually— this has got to be 9— this is like 10 years ago.
Are you serious?
No, no, no, no, no.
Of all photos, why did they pick that one? Pick 7 years ago.
That's crazy because I wore those pants when I lived in the closet of the office.
That's hilarious. We need to do a house tour video soon enough. Once we get a little bit more furniture in here, I ordered a couple pieces like a rug and some nightstands, but we still need a few more things and then we will do a house tour. But we like set up the recovery room yesterday and it's coming together. Thank you so much for watching. Stay tuned for more house content because trust me, there will be a lot to come. More organization stuff, more decoration stuff, more tours, all that good jazz. Anyways, thanks for watching. Bye bye bye.
