She CALLED the COPS on me! → Lawn Care Door Hangers

Mike Andes and Chuck document their lawn-care business scaling up with door-hanger marketing. Chuck hung 750 hangers and got 29 customers, a 1.5-2% conversion rate. They're spending $60,000 on equipment this year and planning another $30-40k, with one resident calling police during canvassing.

We'll get out of here. She's gonna call the cops. She already did.
Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, it's spring rush. We had somebody call the cops on us.
She's following me like she legit is stalking me.
Spring rush brings all sorts of challenges, whether it be finding more customers, finding more employees.
I do not deviate. Some people say that's harsh.
It's the new guy's third day and you got overgrown MO's and equipment breakdowns. And that's what we're gonna be covering today. This is madness. I think I'd rather walk on the Legos. We're gonna be showing the good, the bad and the ugly. That's why you wear your safety glasses.
Guys, no. Exc.
I got the mower stuck.
It is what it is.
Let's check in with my regional manager, Chuck, and see how things are going.
Domination.
This is real life here. Doing door hangers for one of the locations. Ground Thunder Toilets. Let's see what we're looking at here.
Nice and spacious to be the handicap version. Let's see if we got any cool stuff in here.
No graffiti, kind of boring. Got a hand sanitizer. Lame.
What's up, YouTube world? All you famous people out there that know exactly what they're doing, that say, oh, you can't. You can't get these accepted. You can't. Door hangers don't work. Look at these yards. You can almost touch the houses between them. $35 all day long. Had five. Five, yes, five accepted yesterday. You guys are driving me crazy with this. This is a lie and this doesn't work. And right here, 35, 52 all day. No lies, no shenanigans.
Great flapping my gums. Dropped everything. Just what I want. There we go. Now look at that. Now you gotta pick all that crap up. So, yes, drop them all new into our hangers. We run them at all of our locations. All five locations yesterday got one accepted and one location had five excepted in 24 hours. Tell me that's not something that's worth your time. Every one of these is in our exact ideal location. Our exact ideal neighborhood. I mean, look at this. You literally can touch it. Look how big the front yard is. And that's a corner. This is a regular. Look how far? I mean, come on. Why would you not do it? So quit making excuses, get door hangers on, get some business.
We're at an initial MOW this morning. Did a bunch of door hangers today already put out probably 200. I'm down to, like, my last 50. Got to find one more small little neighborhood to put them in. But we're at this initial MO this is why safety is key. See this? I hit. Buried over here was a light bulb, and I shot that stuff all over my face. It is. See all these little pieces? It was like one of those long kitchen fluorescent light bulbs. Annihilated it. Braid myself with shrapnel. So that's why you. That's why you wear your safety glasses. Guys, lessons of the day. Wear your glasses.
So lady just rather call the cops on me. There's this little.
Private property. No trespassing, no soliciting, no loitering. Violators will be prosecuted. So she's following me. I got a good picture of the sign. There she is right there. I don't know if you can see her. Right there behind me, like, literally following me around. We'll get out of here. She's gonna call the cops. She already did. Funny enough, the officer that showed up used to work for us. Officer Kevin Carrick. He worked for me last summer before he got hired on, which is funny. So I enjoy that. Always enjoyable when you get people, you know. And she's gonna sit there, I would assume. Yeah, you can see her right there. She just hanging out. Follow me. I'm gonna go to the other side of the neighborhood, and we're going to see what happens. I'm just not concerned, right? Like, I'm not disturbing anybody. Already picked up a customer three doors down from one of our current customers in this neighborhood and never had any issues. They don't care. But she legit is following me. I love it. They make me feel the same way that you wonderful people in the YouTube world that think like that, they can trim Mickey Mouse bushes and they can mow 35 yards in 12 minutes, and every yard is $100 cut. And I'm not dropping my tailg for less than $50 and blah, blah, blah, and the other shenanigans that you guys try to put out there, it just always cracks me up because that's not real life. Like, you're. See this. This is real life, right? Like, it's just. It's very funny, you know, I've enjoyed it. Great. Look. Oh, there, there. There she goes. She stopped. Hold on. Let's see. Let's see. Hold on. Watch. Let's see if she. Oh, there she is. Look at her backing up. Look at her backing up. Isn't that awesome? Like, she legit is. Is stalking me. I'm enjoying. Oh, here she comes watch. She's going to come this direction.
So I'm over here. And let's see. She said there's another sign. And this is strictly for entertainment purposes only. So let's make sure that the YouTube world also doesn't cry and say that we're terrible people because we're not. Like, I'm not bothering anybody. One guy was grateful that I stopped because he's been looking for servant, the one I told you. Three or four doors down, right? So, like, let's get over yourself, man. There is a small. A very small sign sitting right here. What would be real great is if I pull. Go through here. But I wouldn't do that to the brand. Right here you can see private property. I'll get out here. I'm just having fun with it, right? Like, it's not, you know, anything to really be too upset about. Like, we're in this neighborhood a pretty good amount, and we've already gained probably five or six customers in here just this season. We'll move forward, but I like to have fun sometimes, too. It's not all serious and all other things like that. Some of it is enjoyable, and that's how it time. I enjoyed that.
All right, guys, so I'm here finishing up this mulch. We got to blow off this. Blow off this walkway. Almost done with this property, but crew just called me. It's kind of funny. It's. It's not because it's not leading by example, but, you know, sometimes you just be doing so much. A little scatter brain. So I was filling up the mowers yesterday. Was out mowing alone and doing estimates and filling up the mowers and the gas cans on the truck. I put the cap right next to the can. Drove off without it. And I actually passed it earlier today. Saw it in the road, and I was like, what. What person forgets to tighten their cap up? Crew just called me. It was. It was my cap that we saw. Yellow slip on me. We're gonna go back, see if they see if that cap's still there, see if we can get it. See if it's busted up. If it is, I'm buying a new one.
We got it, guys. We got it. Watch this.
Gonna try not to get hit here. Take these out so we can hear the traffic.
That's the cap. Forgot to put it on. I don't have to buy another one. Looks good to go. Yell slip for me, though. Still take this back to the crew right now.
There you go. Found that in the road.
Fun fact about Chuck. I know our media team likes to put these little fun facts on there. So let me give you a fun fact. I enjoy the comments section because some people are ridiculous. The amount of shenanigans going on in the comments section is phenomenal. For example, why does this joker look like he's always wearing the same stuff? Why do you think? We're a uniformed company. We wear uniforms. Therefore, every day I wear a uniform. It's common sense. Like, I. I don't know what. How that, Like, I don't know how. That's hard to understand. We are a company that adheres to a strict uniform policy.
Brown pants, Augusta shirt, Augusta sweatshirt, Augusta hat. Simple. I don't get it. Common sense. I don't have just one Augusta shirt. Yes, I am that joker that likes uniforms. I think uniformed employees are a better, more professional employee. So every single time you pull up to one of my locations that I manage, every single employee will be dressed appropriately. Always. Every time, every day, every minute. No exceptions. I do not deviate. Some people say that's harsh. It is what it is. And yes, if you can't adhere to the uniform policy, you will not be employed by me. It's very simple. I am very strict. I am very intolerant. That's a new word in this woke world. I am intolerant of people not being in uniform and not showing up on time. If you can do those two things and you give me your hardest effort, your best effort, you just crush it. You've got a good future in my organization that I run, guaranteed. The problem is those are hard to find. Those three qualities in a person appear to be hard to find. So, yes, to all you YouTube people in the YouTube Wonderland, yes, this joker wears the same thing every day. Because we are a company that adheres to a uniform policy and I will never deviate from that uniform policy. Have a wonderful Thursday.
So we're out here doing door hangers, instant quotes per the man. Chuck, Please, no soliciting. We won't hit them. We had somebody call the cops on us for putting a sign up a simple door hanger on a no soliciting house. So we won't be hitting those. But I wish I listened to Chuck and wore something more comfortable. These are the work shoes. I got mulch in there right now is not going well. Oh, look at this. They're friends from True Green. Leaves the true green thing up because we will respect them. But yeah, I wish I had a more comfortable tennis shoes on. I'm going to have blisters tomorrow. And it's hot.
The best porta Potty I've ever been in. Nice and clean sanitizer. It's even cut a little shelf. It's clean. No graffiti on the walls. Doesn't smell.
Kind of wonderful, but nice and clean.
Classy. Classy. Down here in the Carolinas.
It's the new guy's first day. Jalen doing a good job. Banging out most today. Probably going to be above, above base pay. We'll see. CB starts earning deeper feeds. The start of a new week. Well, got the mower stuck, so got to get the new guy to help me out. I got the mower stuck.
Hold up.
Well.
Sick.
Yeah, you just zoom popping wheelies. All right, well I'm push mowing this side.
Look at that.
That's fun. Fun stuff. Much better idea. I have them, have them weed eat the hill. Much better than getting the mower stuck.
Maintenance, maintenance, maintenance, maintenance, maintenance. Two blowers aren't quite running right. I'm no mechanic. Weed eater. It bogs down again as well. They just need tune ups. They get ran so hard for so long that like they just, they just need your standard tune ups. And the dealer is pretty solid with us, so they take care of it pretty cheap. They get us in and out. They don't play around. We build up a really good relationship with our dealer, which is key. Like if you don't have a good relationship with your dealer, you're going to be in a world of hurt. Like talk to them, trust them, make conversations with them, take them a cup of coffee, take them breakfast. One day they will appreciate it and they'll put you to the front of the line. I don't wait for service. They will stop what they're doing and they'll take care of us. Now. We also spent 60 grand this year on equipment and we're going to be doing probably another 30 or 40. So they like that. They like that money. Also a truck which will be another episode for Huntersville. Did that all in 24 hours. Found it, bought it, dropped it off the paint in about 20 hours. So domination. We're do some blade sharpening here real quick. We sharpen our blades every Monday, every Wednesday we swap them out. We run them two days. Typically scrape the decks when it's wet. Sometimes like it is a little bit now, it's a little dewy. We'll scrape the decks every day and switch the blades. So got to wear your glasses. Got to be safe. Got to be safe for YouTube.
This is what we got. Here, got some mowing.
This is madness. This is like, up to my waist. Get it done, my boy.
All right. Here you guys go. The initial MOW on this place, this was a monster. Had to double cut this way. We cut this way, too. This place probably hasn't been maintained in like, two years. You see Jalen rolling around, blowing everything off.
Here's the back. Had to double cut this, too. This is. It still doesn't even look great. This is nonsense. This is. This was swampland over here. Look at this. Absolutely ridiculous. Slipped and slide. I think I can upsell them on a leaf cleanup. It's probably like 5:30 now. I think we got one more MOW, see if we can get it done real quick. So call it a day. That was 17 lawns.
Just wanted to take a second and show off the clean new kicks. Look at these. Look at these bad boys. Look at the fresh Cujo. Shout out, Cujo. This is a.
I know this hill isn't gonna look bad on came, but this is ridiculous. This took me probably a solid 20, 25 minutes. You know, just like bent over with the weed eater. Does that kind of show you how big it is? I think I'd rather walk on the Legos than weed eat this hill again. But we're getting paid for it, so. But, yeah, this sucks. Oh, and remember the new shoes that I. The new kicks I was rocking? Trashed. They're green, so got weed eater legs. Jalen Coleman right there. Look all pretty.
Let's go.
Let's get out of.
All right, so we are in Mooresville. Quick little door hanger update. So I laid. Laid. I hung door hangers for two and a half weeks or so collectively. Between those two and a half weeks and all the door hangers I hung, I hung about 750. You can see there's a whole lot of them back there. I hang them out pretty frequently when I'm doing estimates. All the neighbors get them all just mowing. Instant quote mowings. And we are up to 750 hung, 29 accepted mows. Not to mention there's been six or seven small projects for those that have come about, like, upsells. Just where, you know, I mentioned one more on property. Or I'll just send them what we call a complimentary quote. And what I'll do with that is just say, hey, you know, we were on the property. Notice that your pine straws looking gray. Your mulch, you know, is gray. Whatever, Send it out. So up to six or seven of those, and they're all, you know, anywhere from 350 to 500 bucks and then probably another four or five bed maintenance, you know, 15. Anywhere from 15 to $30, either weekly or bi weekly. Depends kind of what they want. Great return. Great return. I think that's close to a 4% return on door hangers.
Yeah.
Chuck said if it works, double down. You know these door hangers are working. We're getting one and a half, two customers per 100 door hangers we hang ordered 1500 of them. You know we're gonna get by the time the dust clears, probably 25, 30.
Customers out of that.
You know, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Let's double, triple down 3000 more. Here they come. I thought writing out 1500 is a lot. We're gonna see how my hand feels after 3,000 more. Getting it done. Getting it done.
We're gonna run.
We gotta hang more of these.
Let's.
