unexpected $334K invoice...

Mike Andes got hit with a $344,000 contractor invoice for the Augusta Nation headquarters build. The SBA and bank are moving slow on lending, but a metal building is shipping soon for the five-acre site. He's relaunching his landscaping course and looking at loan options for a church property his father runs.

Bad news. I just got an invoice. $344,000 for the headquarter building. This is the five acres that the headquarters for Augusta Nation is going to be built. Very safe. Okay. Goodness gracious. Last night was extremely productive. Okay, so I have a decision. I was riding up on the whiteboard and it's like 1:30am I didn't get a lot of sleep, but I feel very good because I got a lot done. I was writing up on the whiteboard and this is for the mastermind notes that we have. And I think I'm gonna make a video because it's really good. I did go to bed to about 4, slept in a little bit, woke up burn 8:30 this morning. Look at this. So 5 stage of growth. In a guesstimation that we go through every single one of these stages, we literally the business completely changes in terms of things that you're struggling with, etc, from zero to a hundred thousand, all the way up to a million plus. Then you have three different business models, areas where you can actually pause and make the business profit profitable. And then that parlays with the seven stages of wealth. This is all interconnected. And this is what the mastermind for tomorrow morning is going to be all about. This is what we talk about Augusta Nation. I love this. I think I'm gonna make a video right now. Usually I wait till 9:30 Pacific Standard Time, but you know what? I'm gonna sit down and knock this one out. I'm really looking forward to it. I'm feeling fantastic. So I'm gonna go get my hair cut now. I used to back in the day not cut my hair for months and I was very, very cheap. But I decided that if I'm gonna be in front of a camera, I need to have a consistent look. That is nice, clean and tight. I don't have a beard. Two reasons why. Number one, I started to look at presidents, CEOs and none of them had a lot of facial hair and beards. And all the rest of it be professional. Second thing is, if I did try to grow my beard out, it wouldn't look like a work of art. Like see Kevin Fairburn, one of our owners out in Mississippi, he is a work of art. If I tried to grow a beard, it would literally be like the Mona Lisa. You'd look at it and you'd just be like, what is going on?
For everyone saying, michael, you should not be videoing while you are driving. Okay, sorry, cell phone police. You're probably watching this video while you Drive. Bad news. I just got an invoice, $344,000 from our contractor for the headquarter building. What does that mean? Well, that means that I need to get this bank loan thing figured out. So I'm literally gonna go marching down to the bank off. Actually, you know what? I'm gonna call the bank loan officer right now. Cause I'm about to have my hair cut. Nothing like talking to your banker during a haircut. But, man, we gotta figure this thing out. They're just dragging their feet, so probably gonna call them and then go literally drive over there and rattle their. Rattle their bell. Because the SBA is just super slow. It's been a year. We gotta figure this out. And if we don't, I gotta go figure out a commercial loan and figure out a huge down payment, so. So, yeah.
The haircut was successful. The banking call, not so much. I'm driving there right now and, like, it's just so frustrating.
So, of course the manager was not there at the bank, but I was able to send her a voice note and just try to shoot it straight with her and be like, hey, whatever I can do to make this thing go faster, let me know. Hey, I get it. My account has been switched around five different times at the bank because of COVID Like, through the past couple years, literally, my banker has changed five times. So, trying to stay positive, but I can't afford to be building this entire $3.3 million project out of pocket. So the 3,000 344,000 is the whole shell of the building, which is being delivered next Monday, which is going to be exciting to show you guys. But I can't pay for the whole thing with cash. I need debt. So we'll figure it out. But it's never fun dealing with these banks when you're in a time crunch.
Okay, so my house is like, literally two minutes from the bank. So came back here, got changed back into my uniform, headed back to the office. But here's the problem. At this location, I have Airbnbs on both sides. Sides of my unit. The problem with that is I can't record at 2 and 3 in the morning. So last night you say you were up so late, you should be getting more sleep. You're probably right, but that's the time when I can record. So I went to Blaine, where it's a commercial building so I can record late at night, and you say, well, why are you doing that? Well, we are recording because landscapebusinesscourse.com is getting launched today. And the whole brand new version of it. So I'm really looking forward to it. Where's my keys? I'm looking forward to it because landscape. Here's a, here's a little bit of history for you. Okay, so landscapebusinesscourse.com was started six years ago. It was literally started a couple weeks after I. What's beeping? Anyways, it was literally started a couple weeks after I got in an accident and got all these lacerations on my neck. I was underneath a PTO of a, underneath a dump truck and the PTO caught my hoodie and I got all these cuts and everything. So those past videos, you can still see the cuts on my neck now, six years later. Fast forward to today. A lot of business principles are like tried and true. They don't change. But there's also things that do change and some of those things are my opinions about things like budget hours, pay for performance, the way that you do estimates, the speed at which you do them, all that good stuff. So I'm updating landscapebusinesscourse.com and we're changing the model completely so you can check it out. Landscapebusinesscourse.com People still sign up, still get a lot of value from it, but it's going to be off the charts. Amazing. Now as of today, we are launching it. So go check it out. I'm really looking forward to it and I'm going to try to do at least one brand, brand new video on a brand new topic every single month for members. So it's gonna be a lot of fun.
Okay. Someone asked me about supplements. Do I have them? Yes. Do I think they're necessary? No. But if I can get to the 2% edge by getting some supplements, great. Okay, so what do I take first off? First off, I take a creatine, amino acid, multivitamin. What else we got in here? Oh, I think there's a turmeric today. Yeah, turmeric. Okay. So I alternate turmeric and a fatty acid like omega 3, omega 6, fish oil, nice little combo. I alternate those days back to back, but I miss days all of the time because I'm always back and forth between the two different houses. And it's not a big deal. Like five times a week I'll take supplements. Now I take the creatine and the amino acids mostly because I do lift weights twice a week, maybe three times a week sometimes. And so it helps just with the recovery of the muscle. I'm never gonna become super jacked or built because I Do high intensity cardio. I to do trail running. And I want to ultimately be doing that when I'm 80 years old. So I'm not going to be like lifting 300 pounds.
This is what it looks like. This is the five acres that the headquarters for Augusta Nation is going to be built hopefully in about eight to 12 months, let's just say like that. So I'm here today because this is the last time you will ever see this virgin piece of property sitting here in all of its glory. Because literally next Monday, this place is going to have a massive piece of structure infrastructure. Right here, the metal building is being delivered. So these massive metal buildings get delivered on trucks.
Really Monday we have a building being delivered here for the actual. The framing of the pole building is gonna be showing up. It's like 70 by 100. I don't know. It's gonna be right here. The big building is gonna be on this side. We've got five acres, goes way back in those trees. And here's the problem. The reason I'm here right now is because I gotta take a video, because this whole ditch, we gotta get it all wiped out because the surveyor is here on Monday. And furthermore, I've got a mow like the front two acres of this bad boy. And we don't have any really massive mowers. So I'm really hoping that Hustler comes through and one of these other brands is like, hey, Mike, we'll let you use a mower for a video. And I'm gonna mow this bad boy because by Monday this needs to be cleared out. So hopefully Friday I can get back here and we can mow this thing down. But for now, this whole ditch needs to be cleared out because they're going to bring a surveyor here and figure out where our entrance is going to go, which is probably going to be right there next to the car, which is like the middle of the property that'll go in. There's going to be a massive building right there. I don't know, 14,000 square feet. It's too big, but it's probably going to be outgrown within a year or two. And then a whole bunch of parking. And the back, there's going to be a massive tank for water. And those trees, where you see those trees, like everything on this side is ours. It's only half the property. There's plenty of space in the back there to grow. So that's exciting because you will no longer see tall grass or this wonderful piece of property being natural it's going to be artificial infrastructure. Looking forward to it.
But that is what that $344,000 invoice is all about. Because that's going to be the final payment on the building that's being delivered. We've got windows, electrical, a whole bunch of stuff literally sitting in containers ready to go. But that building is a big piece of the material cost. The metal infrastructure and the cost of steel has gone so much. It's come down a little bit, but it's still crazy expensive. But we finally got it here and even though we don't even have a building permit quite yet, it should be here any day. Even though we don't have that, we needed to get ordered the building because we've been waiting on that building since we ordered it for like six or seven months. So glad we finally got it. It's going to be delivered August 1, 2022, and from then on that's going to be a construction site. Finally. Finally. Now we just got to figure out this stupid loan thing. Now, hopefully this is what the property is going to look like in a matter of a few months. I like seeing construction, I like seeing big excavators, I like seeing dirt. I don't know what they're doing, but that's what our property needs to look like. Yeah, I'll get a blueberry spinach smoothie with almond milk and protein, please. Got it. What else? Awesome. Thanks so much. Take care. All right, I'm almost back to the office. It's just after 12 o'. Clock. I can only really show you the morning stuff that I go through because I gotta video it all. Then give it all to some Stephen and he's got to edit it all. So you better push the like button for all the work that goes into these bad boys. But just got off the phone because there's one other thing I'm working on that today and that is actually our church. So my dad started a church a year ago. I'm very proud of him for doing that. But we've been renting for the past year and so we've been looking for a building and there's a great, great building not far away from where we currently rent. It's going to be a great deal. Here's the deal. A non profit. Dropping the phone again. Goodness gracious. Trying to drink, drive and record. Okay, so. Oh, I'm sure everyone in the comments like, you got to get a mount. You got to get mount. Okay, see, I got a mount right there. Okay, Very safe, very safe. Okay, so this building, a non profit church, trying to get a loan. After less than a year of him being in operation, very difficult to get a loan. So what are we gonna do? Well, today my dad was talking to the other, the owner of the building, and they kind of mention lease to own. And I heard those words and it did something very beautiful inside of my eardrum. So we're probably gonna submit two letters of intent, and one is going to probably be a purchase price for cash to buy the property. Another one for a higher price, probably 20% higher, will be to lease the building. A lease to own for three years with a balloon payment at the end. But what's nice, at the end of three years, the church will easily qualify for a loan. So that's just something else I'm looking at, but that'll be too. So anyways, lots of bank stuff today. We got loans here and loans there and everywhere. But ultimately, I like, I don't mind having loans on something like real estate that goes up in value. I'd much rather have loans on real estate and a big building with metal and sheetrock and beautiful windows than I would a truck or piece of equipment that buying right now might be $80,000. And as we catch up with all of the supply chain stuff, not only are you fighting depreciation of the asset, you're going to be fighting the fact that this bubble that we're in when it comes to vehicles and equipment is going to pop. So we'll see you all tomorrow. I'm pulling in the command center. There's Lonnie trying to wave. Record turn. There it is. Okay, cool, we made it. Command center, here we.
