Short YouTube transcript excerpt (June 1, 2023) of Mike Andes conducting/introducing an in-person job interview for a landscaping position. The candidate describes experience with large properties and mowing; the interviewer asks about a driver's license, the candidate does not have one, and the hiring decision is negatively affected because crews typically require licensed drivers.
We gotta go hit our next interview, which is at Starbucks locally, in person. So here we go.
Cool, cool. And have you done lawn care and landscaping before?
Yeah, big properties, like apartments, doing mowing grass using the machines or wood or eggs. You know, if I can get to learn the job, they give me, like an opportunity to start my own business. I can try.
You know, and then in terms of like. Do you have a driver's license?
No.
You don't?
Not.
Okay. Are you going to get it one down the road or not? Probably not.
Okay.
Okay. So I'll just let them know. And then regardless, either way, by tomorrow afternoon, they'll text you and they'll let you know. Awesome. Well, I appreciate you coming in.
Really do that. Did not work out. Everything was fantastic. I think he's a really hard worker. He doesn't have a driver's license, and we just can't do that. And typically we start off with two guys in a truck and it goes to one and they go solo. You got to be able to have a driver's license. It's just difficult from a scheduling perspective, especially if you only have one or two or three employees, that someone doesn't have a license. Now we're going to go do an estimate and it make sure we close this deal.
