WE BOUGHT A HOUSE!!!

Brianna and Mike Andes buy a house for $710K after passing on a $1.85M penthouse. A one-cent autopay failure tanks Mike's credit score to 680 mid-closing, forcing them to sell stocks for cash. Moving day brings power outages and a broken garage code.

If the background looks a little bit unfamiliar to you, it is because we moved. I was so stressed out. She tells me the garage code and it doesn't work. The reason why the garage door wasn't working is because the power was out.
Power's off.
Power and water is off. I come in the house and their stuff is still here.
their financial documents, so their profit and loss, their balance sheet. Mike will go over it in studio.
Happy Monday, you beautiful people! I am up to something a little fun today. Well, if you want to call going to the grocery store fun. I think that's fun. I'm going to a US food store. It's basically where like restaurants shop, essentially, like restaurant owners. They sell a bunch of stuff in bulk, and I've been seeing a lot of videos about it. Like, apparently this is a big thing like these stores are super common, and I didn't even know we had one here in Bellingham. So I figured I'd go check it out, you know. I saw a video of like a whole entire wall of coffee syrups for like a little bit cheaper than where you get at like your other normal stores. So I figure I may as well go look, see if they have any sugar-free options, see what other fun stuff they might have, and, um, yeah, just shop around a little bit because why not? Free will and all that jazz. So let's head over.
Let's see see what we can find. This is crazy. This is like Costco on steroids. Their cans of things are huge. Like, only a restaurant would need a can of corn this big because they sell in bulk. Their prices are decent. I feel like that's not bad for a jar of sauerkraut. Apparently this soft top is what Dutch Bros uses to top their drinks with. Allegedly, that's what I heard. So pretty cool that they sell it here. So many ice cream cones. To be honest, I came in here looking for like some healthier options that I usually get at like other grocery stores, and I'm not seeing it. This is definitely like for bulk and restaurants. So far we got something— they have a whole bag of fortune cookies here! That's crazy. And like gallons of soy sauce. Anyways, as I was saying before that, um, so far the only boring potential purchase are going to be like these skewers, because I've been wanting to make like bacon-wrapped goat cheese stuffed dates. Some of y'all might find this boring, but I love this stuff. I could like grocery shop all day. I actually much prefer this over clothes shopping. This is the aisle I came to see, like a whole wall of just coffee syrups. Oh my goodness, I just found the sugar-free aisle, or their sugar-free section. They have So many! I'm so excited. I might just do a sugar-free caramel. Oh wait, this is butterscotch caramel. That sounds good. Fun fact: the coffee shop I used to work at had mostly Da Vinci syrups, which is not a niche thing whatsoever, but it's just kind of cool that they have them here cuz I don't usually see Da Vinci in normal stores. Toasted marshmallow, watermelon, just like a normal sweetening syrup. They have Torani at the end here. This is so cool. I don't know why I like stuff like this, but seeing it in bulk is like interesting to me. But I got the sugar-free caramel Da Vinci syrup, and they had so many to choose from. I almost wanted to get like toffee nut or the cookie dough one, but I'm like, cookie dough might be a little too weird. So we'll try the caramel, see how I like it, and might come back for the other flavors. Can you imagine going through all of these oats? This is like of bodybuilders' dream.
I don't know why that stuff is so fascinating to me. It is just like what you'd find at your normal grocery store except bigger. But the bigger part is so exciting to me. Like, I just— I don't know.
It's—
I don't know. It's weird.
Anyways, little haul for you.
The bamboo skewers that I plan on doing something with. And then this sugar-free Da Vinci caramel syrup. I'm going to go home and make a coffee with it and test it out, you know? And then they had Mike's favorite tortilla chips for like a couple of bucks cheaper than at Fred Meyer. Probably like a dollar, honestly, $1 or $2. But he'll be happy to see this.
It also looks extra salted for some reason.
The salt was like clinging to the bag. It was so cool, you guys. There was like so much meat in bulk, cheese, and like huge tubs of yogurt. Unfortunately not my favorite brand, Fage. If you know, you know. I kind of want to own a restaurant just so we can shop here on the regular. That is the US Chef Store. If you ever need any flavor of coffee syrups, now you know where to go. You might have one local. I am back in the car. Promise I've moved since the last clip, but it It is a new day and I am currently on my way to meet Mike somewhere exciting. Basically, we impulsively decided to just go drive by a house that's for sale yesterday and we really liked it. We actually kind of snooped around the backyard, looked in the windows, and actually really liked the inside. Obviously we saw pictures on Zillow, but like we wanted to see what the size of the inside was in person, so we scheduled an appointment to do a walkthrough with the real estate agent. and that's where I'm going right now. So Mike is going there directly after work and I'm meeting him there, and I'm so excited to see the inside. The penthouse is not like completely off the table. I'll probably let Mike explain more about that. TBD. We're exploring our options, you know, and this is fun, so why not? Let me lock in so I can get through traffic. Good morning, folks. If the background looks a little bit unfamiliar to you, It was because we moved into a house. Oh, 2 days ago.
Today is Sunday, we're finally on a turnaround. 2 days ago, Friday, we moved in.
So we're still not completely moved in. There's like some boxes and things out.
I'm gonna do a quick 360.
Sneak peek.
Wow. Wow. Wow.
House tour over.
The van wasn't in order before. Let me show around.
Still some boxes out. Things aren't hung up. Still a little bit of a mess. I'm happy with what we were able to set up before leaving. The cleaning lady came yesterday, did like a super deep clean. So should we tell a story how this all happened? Because this is very sudden to them. It's actually very sudden to us, and I'll get into that.
For the last vlog, we were looking at the penthouse.
You're right, it was the last vlog.
Okay, let's go to the background. So penthouse, we did want to go to the penthouse.
We were like seriously considering.
It was $1.85 million. I did not see the value above $1.5 million. So we were going to offer $1.5 million.
Still insane.
Now I do think from an investment perspective equity, like in 10 years, that will be the move. However, there was a lot more cost associated with it. And I think as we get settled in here, we are happy with the decision. Now.
Oh, I, I felt immediately way better about this whenever we toured the house. We'll get into it.
So I didn't want to spend all $1.5 million on cash for the condo. I was like, too much cash. So I was like, hey, let's get a loan for a chunk of it. So we went and I got my— I never use my credit, and so I get my credit run for the home loan and they're like, uh, something went bad. I'm like, what happened? And sure enough, I had $1, $1 on a home equity line of credit that I've had open since I was 20 years old on my very first house. I think I owe like $130 grand on it now and worth like maybe $500 grand, but I had a home equity line of credit and I used that during COVID when everything shut down just in case. That's my first, I actually used that to get involved in the stock market. I bought all in.
Really?
And used that money for the franchise. Anyways, I used it one time and then I left it open. $150,000 credit line with $1 open to keep it open. It had acquired, accrued one penny of interest. And somehow, somehow in October of 2025, my autopay didn't work for the one penny of interest. So I was in default. I was delinquent on my debt.
His credit score went down to 680. Therefore we could not get the loan.
Well, we could have, it just would have been a very expensive loan.
So I took that as our sign from God that like that was just not meant to be because a dollar—
but realistically, that's not actually— we did not think it was a sign. We were just like, oh, okay, I did. Let's go look on Zillow. That was Tuesday, the week before.
To be honest, whenever we toured the penthouse, I was always like, this is really cool, but it didn't feel real. Like, I didn't envision us living in it kind of thing.
It was two steps ahead, you know?
Yeah, it was, it was too much.
Way too much.
So then it was a Tuesday night and we were like, you know what, let's just sit on the couch, look through Zillow, because why not? We had kind of kept up to date with Zillow but not like that much since we had already found the condo. So you're like scrolling for a couple minutes and you came across this house.
Well, we specifically like want to be next to the highway, close to the office, either in Bellingham or in Ferndale, right along the highway.
Mhm.
So we kind of narrowed our scope and we wanted a newer build.
Mhm.
So this one popped up. It was 7:00, 6:45 Tuesday night. I'm like, hey, you want to go look at it? She's like, sure. Hopped in the car, drove drove here, I guess, walked around it. We don't have a real estate agent, but I've had my agent license in the past, so I felt confident enough that we don't need an agent, which gives us some negotiation power. Like it. We walked around the outside, looked inside the windows. We like it. Called Erica, their agent, said, hey, yo, tomorrow can you meet? We were at the house Wednesday, 15 minutes.
15 minutes. Mike was like, okay, here's the offer we're going to put down.
Well, no, I was like, well, what is it going to take to get us across the line? Obviously I knew I didn't have an agent, so I needed to kind of like hold cards a little closer to myself. So got— felt out what the other offer was. They had had another offer come in that day, so someone else came in at $700,000. They were asking $739,000 for the house.
Oh, they came in at $700,000? I didn't know it was that low.
Yeah, and then the other— the owner was like, no, way too low, don't even want to respond.
Oh, the first offer?
Yeah.
Okay.
Yeah, so then they came back And they're like, no, we really want it. We expect their offer was like either $725,000 or $730,000, something like that based upon our calculations. Now I was like, look, you guys don't have to sell— have any buyer agent fees, which usually is 2.5%, and we will close fast and we will close with cash in less than a week.
I just pulled a hair out of the egg.
Really?
It's not— oh, I think it's yours.
I'll talk to the chef. We left church on Wednesday after verbally seeing what our offer was going to be to her. And she's like, nope, $720,000. I put— I was like $710,000 because I knew that we had— we saved them money and we were going to close fast. And I knew that was important either.
We weren't required.
Yeah, I waived inspection, which I don't recommend you do usually, but it's a new build.
It was built 2 years ago.
It's a new build. Family of the previous owners lived in this house.
Also, the developers live here, or their family— their family was a developer. And so I'm like, they're not gonna move them in a house that has problems.
We could tell they made a lot of improvements that only like a homeowner would do. Couldn't figure out what this was. Is it a heating pad? What is it, right? Check this out, we have our own curling— we have our own curling little setup here. Oh man, try this again. Ah, did you get it right?
Bing!
And it lights up.
I've never seen a charger in the middle of an island before. I was like, is it to charge? I'm sure it's to power like an electric candle or something. Something.
Maybe.
I don't know.
I don't know.
Still figuring this house out.
Also, I've been through enough inspections to know what they're going to point out, and I would rather spend the cost of the inspection on getting a handyman out here and like fixing some stuff. So I was confident. I was also confident enough to represent ourselves on— as like, he did so good. So I'm like, nope, I'm holding firm. $715,000 is the highest we can go. 10 minutes later, she texts me back. We're good. Let's do it.
They're moving, or the owners are moving, so they wanted a quick close. Yeah. The other— so they said the other offer, those people, they had like— it was under contingency, right?
Financing. Yeah. They still had to get financing. And then the next day I moved money, which was great actually, by the way, because the stock market fell in the past week so much. So I sold a bunch of stocks so we can do that. Yeah. So then we're like, all right, we got it. Let's go. And we're like, fast. Like, we wanted to get in before we moved.
So fast.
Before we left today, we kind of used this trip as a deadline.
Yeah, which was a little— it was very stressful actually, because like I was calling cleaning people and movers, and obviously they're booked out for a certain amount of people.
They don't answer their phone.
Yeah, no one's answering the phone.
No one suggested that. The problem with moving day is we had signed, they had not signed, and they were in India.
And the time zone difference in India, they're like 13 hours ahead.
Yeah, everything was messed up.
So like, they're asleep while we're ready to rock and roll.
Like, oh yeah, Friday, 11 o'clock, they're gonna time— there's ice. Oh, the ice.
Also still getting used to new noises in the house.
Friday, 11 o'clock, I'm in training at Augusta. New owner training. So I told him, like, hey, look, I'm gonna be busy till 5, 5:30 at least. Brianna has a 12 o'clock, but the movers show up at our apartment and get everything in the truck. 1 o'clock, oh yeah, 1 o'clock they'll sign. What in the world? Still waiting. 3 o'clock, oh yeah, like, we'll close by 3, they'll sign and we'll close and we'll have access by 3. 3 o'clock comes and goes. Brianna is with the movers outside just waiting for us to get the garage code to get inside.
Like, internally freaking out because I'm like, what am I gonna tell these movers? Man, they were so nice. Like, In all reality, from the time they left our apartment with our stuff to whenever they got there, they only had to wait about 15 minutes. So it wasn't that bad. And the title company closed at 4. So I was like, okay, we might not even like get in until Monday when we're in Pennsylvania, and then the movers have all our stuff in the U-Haul. And like, it was this whole thing. I was so stressed out. But the real estate agent calls me at 4:15, the numbers came through, and we were good to go. So we get to the house She tells me the garage code and it doesn't work. I was like, hey, it's not working. And she was like, that's the code. Like, obviously she had nothing else to say. Like, what's she gonna do about it? And I was like, okay, can you give me the door code? The door code worked, thankfully. Turns out the reason why the garage door wasn't working is because the power was out.
The power's off.
Power's off. Power and water is off. They come in the house and their stuff is still here in drawers, fridge is full, couches, beds. Furniture-wise, they had 2 beds, And the couch. And I think it's like, as far as the big stuff goes, that was mostly it.
But it was like stuff in the kitchen, every cabinet, every cabinet in this kitchen, all the freezer was full, like jam full, the fridge was full, there was like whiskey in— like there was stuff everywhere.
I was texting Mike, I was like, it was a sequence of events. I was updating him as I found all these things out, and I was like, I'm so done. I'm so done.
I stepped out. So they're doing the final exam, my training. I stepped out. It was not happening.
I— the movers were being so gracious, but I felt responsible. Like, I felt horrible that, like, I was kind of wasting their time. And then I felt like it was on us for pushing the title company to close so soon just because we had this trip coming up. So I was like, this is all our fault. Like, I don't want to inconvenience anybody.
It ended up working out.
I was catastrophizing a little bit, but—
but it was 4:30, so I'm like, oh man, I got 30 minutes to call like the power company, the water company.
He seriously saved the day.
Like, seriously, I called their emergency line. Fortunately, the power was in 30 minutes, water was in 30 minutes. The Cascade Natural Gas won't come out until Monday. No, they won't even answer their phone till Monday. You just get a voicemail saying call us on Monday during hours.
So we don't have any hot water.
But they close at 4:30.
At least we have water.
Yeah, we do have very, very cold water.
We gotta speed this up.
So that's the story. That's it.
That is part one.
Now signing up for lawn care, on the other hand, was a breeze.
Right. Who do y'all think we went with?
Augusta Lawn Care, instant quote during breakfast, signed up, within a couple hours was on schedule. Why can't everyone do that?
That's all the details for now.
Full house tour coming later.
It's 6:30 AM right now. We gotta catch a flight. So thank you for watching. Thank you for bearing with us through the story of how we got in this dream home of ours. It is seriously gorgeous. Thank you for watching. Bye. Woo! Bye.
