Mike Andes cleaned up an overgrown gateway sign in Blaine during COVID lockdown as volunteer work. The city hit him with a cease-and-desist letter, then retracted it after his video went viral. He later mowed the city's lawn for free to make peace.

Today we're gonna be doing a little bit of community service, not because I went to jail, but because we're trying to do something good for the community. This is the gateway to the United States. The little town called Blaine. I've lived here my whole life. This sign was completely overgrown, and this was in the middle of COVID when the border was closed down and our local economy was being hurt. I pulled out all the weeds, trimmed up the bushes, sprayed a vinegar solution on the flower beds, and installed bark mulch to prevent weeds from growing in the future. In hindsight, I should have just asked prior and got permission to do this because I actually got a cease and desist letter from the city officials and they were not happy that I did this free work. I've made a video about this online and received hundreds, thousands of views, and the city was flooded with a lot of comments about the fact that they would spend more money on the legal team to come after me instead of just doing the work themselves. They retracted the cease and desist letter after changing their story a few times about who actually reported me to the city. First it was a concerned citizen. Then it was them concerned about the union. Ultimately, if they didn't want me there, they could just drove up and asked me. I would have left. As a thank you for retracting the cease and desist letter, I went back to their property at the city and mowed their lawn for free.
