WE MOVED TO TEXAS!!

Mike Andes and his partner moved from Washington State to Texas. They're scaling their lawn care business with a fourth van and new services, while settling into Dallas with gym routines, Costco runs, and exploring local coffee shops. A car shipment got stuck in Wyoming.

We are T-minus five days out from moving to Texas. This is the current state of my car. It's it's a mess, but we just packed in everything we could: the camera gear that we'll need, Mike's office stuff, obviously like a blanket—that's a necessity, of course. Just like some kitchen items, his walking pad, and these vacuum sealable bags from Amazon are a game changer. The real kicker is the Instant Pot in the passenger seat buckled up, and my coffee maker is in the back. This does not feel real. It feels like we've been talking about this Texas trip for—I mean, we have been talking about it for months—but now that it's actually happening, it doesn't feel real. I'm just ready to be there. I just want to be there, settle in, and start like a different chapter of life. It's gonna be amazing. There she goes. This is bittersweet. We are currently at our favorite coffee shop in Bellingham. It's called Liminal Coffee. If you're ever in the area, 10 out of 10 recommend. But it's bittersweet because this is our last time here for a while. Heading out tomorrow. Our flight leaves at 7 AM. My job as the wife of someone who is incredibly Entrepreneurial and business-minded is I need to think of the little things, like making sure we have food whenever we show up, like making sure the house is ready and stuff. So I need to put in a grocery order and just like make sure everything's rocking and rolling. Do you want to take your noise machine and eye mask? Can you see good? Not very good.
Okay.
Liz sent the location, so they're on the way.
Hi vlog, today is a— is, is, is traveling. Going to Texas, come along for the ride.
Is that a car door? Okay, they're here, they're here. No, they brought the Tesla, that means they have room. All right folks, made it through security. They checked my food because I packed all my meals with me, but thankfully they didn't take anything away. Liz and Ryan dropped us off and we're about to head out. And like, we have so much time. We like walked right through security. There was like hardly a line for bag check. This is the beauty of flying out of a tiny, tiny, tiny regional airport. There's like 4 gates. That's how you do it.
Camera, my little camera. It's so beautiful. Little cute guy. See that?
We're filming on a DJI Pocket Nano— Pocket Osmo right now, but that was a Nano, so it's more like a GoPro.
Kind of, yeah, it connects to this thing. See that? There you go. Voilà. But you can still see it on this one, and then this one's a little guy.
So you can wear it like a GoPro. It's super cool. Texas, here we come! We in Portland! This concourse is so cool. Of course Michael found the smoothies.
Yeah, yeah.
What are you thinking?
Meal in a cup.
We made it to Portland. We probably have like 2 hours left in our layover. We'll be in Texas in like 6 hours from now, which is so exciting. I'm so excited. I just posted about this on my story, but the ways I'm keeping myself from not feeling so gross during flights— you know, whenever you're sitting on a plane for a while And like, especially if you're squished, you're gonna find you feel swollen, gross. Trying to not get there, so I'm just like trying to stay hydrated and take laps in this airport during our layover. Um, our flight's really not that long. Like, our one from Bellingham to Oregon was less than an hour, and then our flight from Portland to Dallas is like 4 hours. I haven't talked about it yesterday, but I am like trying to tell Time my grocery delivery just right for whenever we get there. It would honestly save me so much time if I don't have to go to the store tonight and just had it all delivered there. So I will eat that $10 Walmart delivery fee just to have our groceries there. Shout out Walmart for having a super user-friendly app that I can just put everything in my cart and get it all delivered. Okay, after a long travel day, we got to our Airbnb and the owners gave us this super duper cute welcome basket with like Snacks, laundry detergent, just like little essentials that we would need whenever we first arrive. And that is so nice. I'll give you guys an official tour later once we settle in. I look so chopped right now. So we need to settle in and all that jazz, and then I'll show you. I'll give you a tour.
Lulu bag across the thing. Yeah, I'm just mounting it on there. It's better than just in the middle of my shirt because it's just less conspicuous for people. Biggest part of tomorrow is like getting the van. It's like I gotta make sure I'm strapped, You'll film me throughout like getting the keys, doing any signatures, whatever. Yeah, probably walk around the van, show it off a little bit.
Good morning! Not gonna lie, you guys, I slept so good last night. I honestly wasn't expecting that, but I'm so thankful just because it was a new bed. And but no, like, we both— me and Mike both slept so good. I'm feeling very well rested, just about to head to the gym that I got. Before we even moved here, I knew what gym I wanted to go to because whenever we visited here in Dallas We got day passes at this one gym and I was like, yup, this is gonna be my home gym for the next 6 months. So about to head there once I have my pre-workout meal, make sure Mike's good to go for the day and everything. The 2 supplements I take fasted in the morning are 2 zinc capsules and L-glutamine, recommended by my coach for gut health. And honestly, it has made a world of difference. Maybe I can touch more on that in a separate video, but like, I used to have Awful gut health, and that is definitely not the case anymore. So I'm super thankful. But we're here to talk about Texas, not about my gut. Okay. Anyways, last night I just spent like several hours settling in, putting our groceries away. Having the Walmart grocery delivery service, guys, is the life hack I didn't know I was missing out on, but I was absolutely missing out on it. It saved me so much time from having to go to the actual store myself. Even though this L-glutamine is not flavored, it tastes like powder because you know it's a little grainy. I hate it. I hate taking this. I think we'll be back around 11 or 12. That's fine, I'll probably be out.
Depends how long I need to help John with the vents and the fans.
First day of filming, let's go! Okay, to be honest, I didn't film in the gym because I wanted to get my bearings, but I did go to Costco and I want to show you guys because there's a— there— it's a lot, it's a lot. Just for context, The protein powder alone was $60, so you can use your imagination to guess what the actual total was. But that's what happens whenever you move into a new place, basically, and have to do a complete huge grocery haul. Let's see if I can fit it all in the trunk. Unfortunately, that's not even everything we need, but I'm gonna go to Sprouts later once I meal prep and settle in and get all this stuff back. Because in this Texas heat, it is probably not a good idea to let the meat and like frozen stuff stay in the car. So I'm gonna head home, unload, and do that all over again except on a much, much smaller scale.
All right, so today we picked up the 4th van, took it to the Regus office, The coworking space. Met up with John. We installed the Motiv front-facing camera and tracker for this van at the office with John. You're putting peanut butter on chicken?
I didn't have it on my, uh, yogurt bowl this morning because I didn't have any, so I'm just improvising. People do this all the time and I want to try it.
I guess like peanut butter or peanut chicken.
I'm not a bodybuilder, but bodybuilders, whenever you need to fit your macros in, you just throw stuff together. Like peanut butter on chicken.
Anyways, I think that was all that really happened today.
Wait, so is John able to find field workers?
Working on it. I think we got a couple in the pipeline.
All right, is he gonna do the interviews tomorrow?
He has one tomorrow and they're gonna put the racks in tomorrow, but we're waiting on the ramps. That's our bottleneck right now.
What's the ETA on those?
Hopefully today or tomorrow. That's what they told us.
How's John doing?
Good. There's one really good applicant he's trying to persuade to come over.
If they applied, why is he persuading them?
Um, they kind of like going cold. But we raised the base pay since they applied.
Did they go cold because they're being filmed?
No.
Oh.
It was just compensation.
You know, when you do things like moving across the country, you have to brace yourself for something going wrong. And it could be that the truck that your car is being transported across the country on— across the country on broke down. So my car is currently stuck in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and the delivery of that will be delayed by like 3 to 4 days, which honestly not a big deal. Like, I packed enough clothes. We have 2 rental cars. But for Mike it is a big deal because all of his clothes are in that car. He only has like 2 shirts here, so that kind of stinks. But you know, minor hiccups along the way. It's okay, we, we roll with the punches. It's okay. I just got to Sprouts. This is the beauty of being back in the South because I can go to stores like Sprouts, Aldi. They have all these other things that we don't really have in Washington, or at least our area of Washington. And I'm stoked about that. So anyways, there's a win here. There's a win today. I get to go to Sprouts.
Day 2, yogurt bowl. We're headed to the hidden gym. And then after we go to the gym, we're gonna go to Sweat House. And for my birthday, Granna, she got me a membership and it comes with 2 per month guest passes. And it's like a suite where you have a sauna and a cold plunge. So we're gonna check that out.
And a vitamin C shower all in one. We don't even know what a vitamin C shower is.
Vitamin C showers. I know. I don't even know how you can get vitamin C from a shower.
It sounds nice.
I was like, maybe some oranges crushed up in the water or something.
Yeah.
But we're gonna go check that out. Later today, I'll go pick up the ramps for the vans, get them to the wrap shop, do a bunch of other stuff, and have a great day.
How do you feel like the challenge is going? So I know we like, we're literally on day 2.
Day 2, we're gonna crush it. No, we're way behind. The ramps, we need the ramps so we can wrap the vehicles. We need the vehicles wrapped so we can put equipment inside. And actually start, so we're way behind. But last night, 11:30, I had this idea.
You were still awake? Oh yeah.
I'm gonna ask John and Nick and see what their thoughts are on potentially running ads now, but for weed control. Given the fact that you don't have to do service right away, we could say, hey, your next service will be next month, which gives us time. So we'll see. Anyways, that's my update. Now I'm gonna go back to eating my wonderful yotebo.
Hey, there it is!
Contrast therapy. We're having some contrast therapy.
They just gave us the rundown of this place. It is so cool. This is the cold plunge, obviously. Vitamin C shower where you rinse off after you do the sauna. And they have like a TV in here that's connected with Bluetooth and it plays in the sauna, which is crazy. And we have our timer up there so we know how much time we have left. This thing is so cool. They gave us scented towels.
Oh, that's so nice.
Like colds and towels. I have citrus and he picked lavender.
Lavender.
This is great.
They have vitamin C infused water for the shower.
We just finished up and you guys, I feel like a new woman right now. That feels so good. I stayed in the sauna for 30 minutes straight, which was kind of tough. Like I got bored and I was ready to get out of there, but the cold plunge— we were in the room that had the coldest cold plunge. I think it was like 45° and all the other ones are 48°. I only lasted a minute. I was like, oh, I'm going to last 3 minutes. Yeah, that was, that was humbling. I only did one. So how would you rate your experience?
I loved it. Absolutely loved it.
It's such a cool room, like such a cool area.
Cold plunge, if you're doing 50° or above, that's good. Like it gets you a little bit of cold shock therapy situation. When you go to below though, like every degree you So that was 45 degrees. That was tough. We did 38 one time and it was brutal.
Yeah.
But like, I think if you're just gonna start with cold plunges, stick around 50 degrees. That'd be my recommendation.
I agree, because that was, that was a lot. Every degree matters whenever you're doing a cold plunge, because like Mike regularly does 50 degrees at our house.
Yeah, it's back. In it to win it.
This camera does not belong on the dash. Noted. Okay. Moving on. Well, I'm like so flushed right now. What were you saying?
Uh, you were saying how every degree matters.
Every degree matters when it comes to a cold plunge. Uh, now we got to spend the morning together, got to work out, got to do a cold plunge, and now Mike is gonna get back to the grind, back to the Texas Challenge grind. Can you update them?
So we are officially live. We let Command Center know this morning that we are taking customers so they can turn the phones on, accept customers. We also put the website Instant quotes on the website are up and the ads will start running today. We're gonna focus on fertilization, but I know that some customers will, 'cause right next to fertilization is mowing, we will get some mowing customers, but we're still 8 to 9 days away from being even able to mow someone's lawn. So we're gonna focus mostly on treatments, fertilization, and weed control for now. That's the update.
Okay, I've been promising a tour of the Airbnb, so here we go. Front door. And there's this nice dining area and then like a little office space, which Mike is not using 'cause one of the bedrooms are his office. We'll get to that in a second. Um, and then like a nice area to just like dump your stuff, which clearly we have taken advantage of. Love this rug, by the way, super cool. And then the kitchen. I like how they went with like the modern design of everything. It's all a little neutral, you know? Love it. It has everything we need, and I'm so thankful. A nice backyard area, which we're not used to having a fenced-in backyard, so that's like super duper nice. And the living space. And then— oh, hello, there's me. This is Mike's office where he is making big money moves, big decisions. It's formerly a bedroom, now taken over into an office, and I think we are using that closet for more storage and stuff. And then this is where he's just keeping his clothes, his own closet area. So this is also just like an unused bedroom basically.
And then—
And then This bathroom, which is in between both bedrooms that you just saw. Very nice shower. Down the hall here we have the laundry area. Trying to be quiet because Mike is now talking. Um, this is the garage, which we don't have key fobs for, so it's a little inconvenient to open and put our cars in here, so we have not done that. And then our bedroom, which is clearly lived in so far, but there's a closet With my clothes in there. Then the bathroom. That's a quick little tour of our Airbnb here. I am so thankful it has everything we need. We've been settling in so nicely. How do I turn this lamp off? There we go. I'm just so thankful. I love it here, you guys. I think I am a Southern girl at heart. I— that sounded cringe, but genuinely, like, I love it here so much. We're only on day 3, granted. We got here Sunday evening and it's only Wednesday morning. But still, so far I'm absolutely loving it. People here are so nice unless you make them mad on the road. You know they struggle with road rage around here, but that's okay. You know we all have our vices. I love the gym that I'm going to, and I've only just started exploring. I'm actually meeting with some potential new friends later, so hopefully— like, that's my goal. I really want to make new friends here, build a community in the six months we're here. Like, may as well. So I'm super stoked about that. I'm actually leaving to meet somebody for coffee. And I'm gonna leave here in 13 minutes. And then later tonight, I'm gonna go on a walk. It's a walk club with a bunch of other girls. Not a run club, but a walk club. So, um, not really gonna film any of that because I don't want to be weird. But we're gonna be here for 6 months. I may as well just like optimize it in every way I can. But so far, genuinely, you guys, I love it here so much. And we have only just started exploring and Seeing what's around. I don't want to give too much away about the challenge. I'll Mike's actually Mike's vlogs have come out. Two should have already come out by the time this or at least one should have come out by the time this vlog is up. The second one is coming out on the same day this vlog is going out, so stay tuned for that. Honestly, you guys, I feel like we came to Texas at the perfect time of year. The heat feels so good, actually, and whenever I check the temperatures back home, it's like in the 50s and rainy. So I am absolutely loving this warmer weather. I'm also so excited right now. No, because yesterday 2 brands that I absolutely love reached out and wanted to start working with me, and I'm just over the moon about it. So I'm gonna go to a coffee shop and work on that. Additionally, we're having to extend our rental cars because my car's delivery is being delayed by like over a week, basically, because the diesel that it was being transported on broke down, as I mentioned before. So anyways, I need to go to Hertz and extend that because apparently I can't do it over the phone. But in the meantime, I need to find a cool coffee shop to go to. That is also the fun of being in a new area, is just being able to explore and find new workspaces. Local Johnny's, we're going here. 20 minutes away, not too shabby. Let's do it. Pretty sure I just found my favorite coffee shop here. I am Chipping away at some work. I just filled out all the information needed to— for both companies that I'm going to be working with, and I'm so excited because I genuinely love these. And I'm very new to the whole world of being an ambassador slash affiliate, whatever you want to call it, so I feel like I have a lot of learning to do, but I'm so excited. This is like such a cool opportunity. The first vlog documenting the whole Texas project went up today, and what have been the fruits of that so far?
Uh, yeah, we had a big day for Homework. Like 18 new members joined, which is very good.
What's the average per day, like 1?
Uh, well, we're coming out of the slow season. This is the time of year where people can join and get ready for the offseason. So also today was the last day for the promo to give them 2 months free.
Video is a 1 out of 10 already, and it already beat the last turnaround that came out, which is crazy. By a lot. By a lot, but it's super encouraging because like even whenever we would make posts on social media, everyone was like, "Oh, I can't wait to watch." So super cool.
Proof is in the pudding until you actually post and see what the engagement is. So it's very good. Shout out the editors. We have like the whole team is focused on it, and there's such a tight schedule.
They said the second vlog's already scheduled. Yep, it's for Sunday. Stephen told me the post or said in the I was in the video meeting. He was like, their posting schedule, I think he said was Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday.
Okay.
Something like that. Everyone's firing off on all cylinders. Like, Anterella and Mikayla, shout out to them. They're here filming everything too. Like, oh, there's a Mexican spot over there. Anyways, they're crushing it. So it takes a tribe, it takes a team, and everyone has been amazing. Now we're gonna go celebrate by getting Mexican.
This is our first time eating out the whole time, whole trip.
We've been eating at home. We've been good.
I've been cutting weight too. So I'm gonna be starting with a trainer, Vanna's trainer. I need to improve and get better. I need to get jacked out of my mind. So I'm starting with her on October the 5th. It's the first time I've ever had anyone control my diet. I've never had someone control everything I eat and supplements, et cetera. So she's gonna be working with me starting October the 5th. Since we moved here though, I've been changing my diet up a little bit. I've not been eating like keto desserts and peanut butter. Those are my killers. I haven't been having those, I lost 3, almost 4 pounds.
It's actually unfair how fast he loses weight. In a week he's lost 3 pounds. It's not fair.
I can know how to eat, trust me. I know how to throw it down, and if I do, I can gain weight very fast too. But fortunately, when I'm busy and I don't get— like, food's not around and my wonderful wife doesn't make me incredible desserts that are keto that I just want to eat All of my mind is just constantly calling me to the fridge and to the freezer, then I can lose weight.
The nice thing about completely starting over as far as groceries go is you don't have the ingredients to bake stuff right off the rip, so I'd have to intentionally go buy it. But knowing that he's starting with my— or yeah, with my coach October, at the beginning of October, it's like, well, there's no point in buying all these things and him not using them. So, so excited. I'm so excited for him to start. It's gonna be great. We're both gonna be on the And locked in.
Locked in. Thank you.
Hello. Thank you, guys. Oh, sorry, go ahead.
Heavenly Father, thanks for this day. Thanks for your many blessings. Pray that the conference tomorrow goes well. In Jesus' name. Amen.
Guys, we're in a prime people-watching spot. We're in this booth basically facing everybody, and there's so many people here. But check it out, check it out, check it out. What are you gonna order? Do you know?
I don't know. Anybody order this?
Absolutely not. Sorry. Thank you. Okay, well, I didn't get it before. It got absolutely demolished, but chicken fajitas for the win. How would you rate it?
It was great.
It was great is what he says. Their guacamole was creamy, which is crazy. Never have had creamy guacamole before, but it was really, really good. Okay, camera's at 3%, so it might die midway taking this, but farmer's market haul. You can go first. We've got some keto desserts. There was this keto dessert stand that Mike and I had come to earlier this year, and we had to revisit. Yeah, the caramel twist bites, which are so good. The praline And the cinnamon coffee cake, the keto cinnamon coffee cake. Yep, they use allulose in all their stuff and they let us get samples. It was so good, so I got Mike a couple of those. Oh, I got some banana peppers, homegrown banana peppers. Those were so good. Wonderful. Look at that color. The guy selling them, he grows the peppers. He also had like pickled onions, pickles, Everything. Literally everything. Like so many different pickled desserts— I mean pickled vegetables. Yeah, and that's it for me. I got a dozen eggs that are a little more expensive than I'd prefer, but that's okay. Support local, you know what I mean? 5 different sweet potatoes, which in hindsight they did get burrowed through, but that's totally fine. I'm so excited to try locally grown sweet potatoes. And then no sugar added mixed berry jam. The guy running the stand also Let us have samples, and they— it's so good. Which, I didn't know this, but Mikayla was saying that if the jam does not have sugar in it, it like is not as shelf-stable.
Yeah.
Which is really interesting. You have to find it in the same way as if you have, uh, like full sugar. Which is crazy. Didn't know that. So we're gonna have to eat that real quick before it goes bad. But that is the farmer's market haul.
We're gonna have to take this to work.
That was so much fun. We came to a different location of the same branch of cooking class that we came to last, like several months ago. Stir the table, we made sushi. It was so fun. Definitely made me realize that I'm never making sushi at home. That is strictly a go to a cooking class where they do all the prep work for you and you just get to throw stuff together and eat it kind of thing.
You didn't tell them about your owie?
I did cut myself trying to pit an avocado. Amateur mistake.
