Mike Andes explains why his surveying crew turned down a job. Steep hills and unfenced retaining walls made it unsafe to operate equipment. The company declines about one in a thousand jobs when conditions pose real danger to workers.
They came out to do a survey, but they just drove by. My wife called the office and they said no because there are retaining walls and hills in my yard. What kind of lazy people they got working for them?
Because we do our estimates over the phone and use satellite technology, we don't always see all the undulations and like drop offs and cliffs on someone's property. For this specific customer, we did decline service. We do this one out of a thousand times and it's because we just don't feel it's safe for the crew to be operating equipment around very, very steep inclines or walls that don't have any fences at the top of them.
