Hey everyone, it's Mike Andes. And today I'm gonna be talking to you about a customer that you just had that might have complained, made a bad online review, giving you a lot of hassle, made up excuses why they couldn't pay their bill, they're mad at you, they're mad at your crew, your crew hates working there. Perhaps you were working there and they just in an absolute pain to work with. I'm gonna give you some encouragement and a little bit of advice and make sure that you go forward from this experience, learning from it, and making sure that you don't let it bog you down. That's the most important thing. Don't, don't allow one sour apple, one bad customer to get you down into a funk where for a whole week you're just down and defeated and discouraged and you don't go on the offense and you don't go hire another person and you start treating your family wrong, you start treating your employees wrong. You take everything out on your customers and your business because of one bad customer. If you just had a bad online review, you gotta look at the positive part. When you go onto Amazon, for example, and you're trying to buy something and there's a whole bunch of reviews, what's the first thing you do? You look for the one star reviews you wanna get the dirt on. That same thing goes when you're looking for a service provider. If you're looking for someone to fix your AC or fix your roof or whatever it might be, you look for the one star reviews. Those are the ones you read. In our local shop, we like 160 or 175 star reviews on Google. But the two or three really bad one star reviews is what everybody reads. It's what every customer looks at first. So what that means is how you respond to that one star review is extremely important. And the best way to cover up a defeat or a bad customer, someone just going off the handle at you and doing super, just you cannot please them. They're completely out of their tree. The one way to make sure you cover that up is go get more good customers. Go continue to expand and grow and don't let it get you bogged down and defeated and feel like you're depressed and like, oh man, I don't know if I can keep doing this. I don't know how much longer I'm going to have to go into a different industry. My employees aren't doing a good enough job. Maybe I'm not experienced enough, maybe I can't Build a business. You're so defeated and you start coming up with excuses why you shouldn't keep growing your business, why you can't be successful and you start to have a very clouded mindset. Guess what? If they leave a one star review, if that person leaves a one star review, those are the best ones, the ones that are unreasonable. Because you're able to make it very clear in your response to that review that you are a professional company. You're not going to respond back, swearing at them, telling them a horrible person, no one wants to work on your property. Don't go down that path. Be the professional that shows, hey, I care for the customer. We did our very best job. We did exactly what was on the proposal and at the agreed price, we didn't change anything. And this person's being completely unreasonable. But you don't say that part. You don't say that part. Let the other customers reading their one star review come to that conclusion based upon how professional you are and how out of their out of the tree that customer is by going off the handle and swearing and saying you're the worst person in the world and all the rest of it, Customers see through that stuff. And those one star reviews are going to be the thing that allows you to get more customers. They're like, hey, this person professional. They didn't lose their cool, they stayed with this customer, did everything they did, they returned back to the job, did everything on the estimate as was agreed to. Those are the type of things that are actually going to bring you more customers. But trust me, it can be really, really discouraging to get a customer that just mad at you, gets you on the phone, emails you just long, long periodical of just absolute nonsense and screaming at you, saying you're a horrible person, questioning your morality, questioning your integrity. These are the type of things that just really can bog you down. But let me explain thing, sometimes your worst customers, the customers that hate you the most, that say the worst things about you, if you treat them correctly. And I know sometimes people are way out of their tree and you can't, you can't make this happen, you can't make them happy no matter what you do. But there's some customers that they seem horrible and they're complaining and they're high maintenance and all the rest of it, you can turn those customers in, some of your best customers, because like when someone tries to hit a home run and the ball is being belted to left field and someone grabs the ball over the fence and snags that from being a home run and now that becomes like a highlight when actually you make a mistake. The pitcher made a bad pitch and they were about to score runs on you. But because of your ability to snag, in other words, save the customer, you actually become a highlight. Like they become your biggest fan because you're able to save it from going in a really bad direction. So don't focus on your mistakes. Don't focus on that one customers ringing your neck and making a difficult time for you. Focus on the next customer and go get five more five star reviews to cover up that bad one.
