The speaker questions whether following others' advice means actually doing their job. Decades ago, nobody encouraged people to make a living talking about sexual assault. They've decided awkwardness won't stop them from speaking openly about it anyway.
Do you think I'm doing this job if I listened to what people told me to do? Do you think people 20, 30 years ago were saying, you should go make a living speaking about sexual assault? In the 1990s, do you think anybody was doing that? But awkward me thought, I still think I can. And I let awkward me lead the way. I just let awkward me be courageous. So what I mean by that is only awkward, but say that I'm not gonna let that stop me from talking to people, from engaging. So I can think how I wanna talk to people, right? But I wanna jump through that, if that makes sense.
