A speaking coach describes working with a client who'd tried six coaches before finally letting go of external cues and delivering a natural, powerful speech. Real coaching draws out strengths you already have, not fills gaps. Authenticity is what connects audiences to speakers.
Chapters
A speaker that I coached had previously worked with at least 6 different speaking coaches, and one of their biggest challenges was they were way too much in their head. They were hearing every coach when they spoke. And so the beauty of working with that client was by the end of the day, they had let go of all the coaching and become themselves. And it was beautiful to watch. And here was a really cool part. They even said— I said to them, What's the favorite speech you've ever given in your life? And they named it. And I said, what was your style on stage? They said, for whatever reason that day, I just went up and was myself. And I'm like, bingo! And you loved the work and you connected with the audience and the light bulb went off and they've used that ever since. So they know I don't need coaching. I have everything I need right here. And I wanna stress that when you hire a coach, It's not because you need us, because you're missing something. It's because we're gonna help draw something out that you already have in you. That's what a great coach does. And then you get to capitalize on that and maximize it in your business and in your speaking. But it's already there. We're drawing it out in a way you didn't either see it or know it was possible.
