Replace judgment with curiosity when you interact with others. Instead of assuming why someone did something, wonder about their actual motives. Choose words that keep everyone in the conversation, not language that excludes groups or identities.
Chapters
Somebody in this room could say something that makes you think, how could they say that? I wonder how they could say that. Lead with curiosity over judgment. We live in a world that tells you to judge everything right away and take a side. I want you to lead with curiosity to understand each other. Curiosity means I wonder why. Judgment means, oh, I am assuming why you're doing it. Might not even be the right reason. I might be wrong, but I'm going to assume. I'm going to treat you differently based on my assumption. Curiosity says, I don't know why you're doing that. I want to find out. Huge, huge difference. I also want us to be inclusive. That means we're going to use language that doesn't keep people out of the conversation, that doesn't leave groups or identities out of the conversation. So that's what we mean when we say be inclusive.
