When you tell a personal story in a presentation, make it about what the audience cares about, not about you. Self-focused stories create distance. Reframe around their interests and motivations to activate empathy and connection.
Chapters
So when we tell a personal story, it's not about our story. It's about their story, the audience's story. And that's why it connects. And that's why it relates. It's way more interesting than lecture without a doubt. No question about that. And it activates the empathy, right? That's what we're talking about. It gets to their why and everything we're doing is about them, right? We're never in the room for us. If you're sitting in the room before you go to present and, and we've all fallen into this trap, you've done the work long enough. And you're sitting there going, oh, they're going to make this difficult on me, or this is going to be me, me, or I wonder how I did. And that's a you focus versus a them focus.
