After 35 years, most high schools and universities still tell students to "do the right thing" about sex and consent without teaching them what that means. Teenagers with raging hormones assume whatever they want to do feels right. Schools need specific instruction, not vague moral directives.
Whenever I share this, someone will be like, well, were you taught this in high school, in college? No, these conversations did not exist in high schools and universities 35 years ago. And if we're being totally transparent, they don't exist in most schools today. Most universities, not Whitewater, they're going above and beyond, but many do the bare minimum. So it's still not being discussed. We were raised in an era where you were taught, do the right thing, with no instructions. Right? Is that typically a good approach to societal topics? No. No, because when you're 16 and horny, everything feels like it's the right thing. Right? So this is not the best approach to these topics.
