Asking for consent doesn't kill the moment, it proves you're confident enough to handle a no. The other person gets to choose, you avoid misreading signals, and you sleep better knowing you did it right.

Everything you've been taught about asking and why not to do it is a myth. It's the opposite. Asking doesn't ruin the moment, it makes the moment. It shows more confidence, it's more spontaneous, and most importantly of all, it's the right thing to do, right? To give another human being a choice. Now, whenever I give this example, people are like, all right, Mike, but what if they said no? That person said yes. Let's go there. I say, can I kiss you? They say no. I simply respond, you know what, then I'm glad I asked. Last thing I want to do is make you feel uncomfortable. Here's the best part: if I ask and they say no, do you know that I'm still thrilled I asked? Let me explain why. I'm not getting my hopes up for the next 2 hours like I would have if I waited to guess. Only asking gives you these gifts, right? That's the beautiful thing about it.
