You will never be able to say that something is a cycle if it was irregular. The definition of a cycle is that it's regular. Imagine the seasons could happen all over the place. We know when to plant the harvest because you do it at a particular time, month of a year in fact. And at certain point there was a confusion with calendars many different calendar people use, and it turned out because we were not completely aligned to the solar cycles that they were shifting.
