How to Walk Away from What’s Draining You (Without Feeling Guilty)

Episode six of Misty Tripoli’s Keepin It Real podcast (YouTube) — a first-person monologue about a period of rapid personal transformation and the early growth of her Groove Method. Misty describes intense daily spiritual and movement practices (meditation, dance, yoga, long walks), ending a draining romantic/financial relationship, and the loneliness of early awakening. Within weeks she is contacted by Nike (corporate in Oregon), invited to teach, and offered a contract for paid appearances that leads to international travel (Sweden, Asia, Europe) and large-scale teaching opportunities. She gathered roughly 10,000 emails from conference attendees, recruited about 10 master trainers who have stayed 15–17 years, and teases a forthcoming “dark night of the soul” episode.

This is episode six in the series about moving from the darkness to the light and how my life completely changed in a very short period of time and how I created the woke of movement and why I do what I do. So I received this download. I know that I'm supposed to just have faith and I'm supposed to go for it. And I'm demanding, yo, God, like, listen, you better show me the way and make it obvious, because I don't know what to do. I literally don't know the first step to take. I have no idea. So I just continued to do what I was doing. I was meditating every day, you know, four to six hours dancing, two to four hours going to a yoga class, and literally just like, oh. And I also started salsa dancing at the same time. And as a little side note, a little housekeeping. You remember from the first episode, I talked about a guy that I was with that I was supporting. So very quickly, that relationship ended because I was so clear on so many things so quickly. I was like, why? I'm not responsible for this person? Like, I'm literally going bankrupt paying for this guy. And that's another thing. I claim bankruptcy. I was like, fuck it. Like I said, I'm not a credit score. I just claim bankruptcy. I'm like, I don't care anymore. I really don't care at all. That is not who I am. That has nothing to do with my value as a human being. I'm not worried at all. Fuck the system. I'm out. And I also told him because I would also take long nature walks every day. So on top of that, I would meditate and then I would go for a long walk in this beautiful park in Beverly Hills. And then I'd go home and I'd sit back in my chair and just. And in these moments, it became very clear to me that I was like, no, same with this, like, my job. Not one more day. So I sat him down and I said, Listen, I said I was not yet quite aware of what a cunt I was to him. Though that came a little later. Cause I started taking workshops and Understanding Men and all of that. And like, you know, how we operate in relationship and stuff like that. I started studying with Alison Armstrong, who was fucking amazing. So anyways, I just sat him down and I said, hey, listen, if you want to live here, you are responsible for half of the rent, half of the food, half of everything. So if we're going to do this, you need to pay for half. At least half. Like, I'm not going to carry you anymore. I'm not doing it. And the next day he was gone, Disappeared. See you later. And that's another whole story. I'll talk about that. I thought that said so many things to me. Like, oh, he never loved me and it meant so many things. But I will. I want to do a whole series about relationships. So we'll talk about relationships and stuff like that later. And the ahas of, you know, how we act in relationships and who we are in relationships, you know. So he was gone. So now I'm by myself and I'm loving it. But I was. It happened so fast and so hard. I was actually lonely because I couldn't be around the same people anymore. I couldn't have the same conversations. I couldn't. Like, none of it made sense to me anymore. So I was just like, I can't. Awakening can be very lonely. Especially in the beginning, before you understand that being alone is fucking amazing. That when you learn to love yourself and you learn to enjoy your own company, you're never bored, you're never alone, you're never like, life is delicious. So. And that's where I'm finally at in my life. And what was funny. So he's gone. I'm going through all of this. I don't know what the fuck I'm going to do. I'm demanding. God, you better show me. Like, and about. Like, I'm really bad with dates. But I would say within a couple week period of time, Nike calls me. Nike corporate offices in Oregon calls me and says, hey, so we've heard about you. And now I'm starting to teach all my classes different because this methodology is coming through me. And I'm learning how easy it is to help people move their own authentic way. And so I'm teaching very differently. And people are really taking notice of it. And like, oh, my God, what Misty's doing is totally different than what everyone else is doing. And so I got A little notoriety. And Nike heard about me and they're like, we're looking for female fitness athletes because we're launching our fitness line of clothing. We've always done like sports and all that stuff, but now we want to do fitness, so we need some fitness athletes. And cool, let's do it. I said, we want to come take your class, you know, talk to you a little bit and see how it goes and blah, blah, blah. And I was like, okay. Like eight people from corporate and Nike came to my class, fucking rocked them, grooved the shit out of them. And after that they offered me a contract. So now I'm under contract with Nike. Now. It's not like this million dollar contract or anything. I got paid for appearances. I wasn't on salary or anything like that. I got paid to make appearances. But what was amazing about that is those appearances were all over the world. So they were flying me to Sweden and Asia, like all over Europe. Like, they took me everywhere. And I was presenting. I was one of the lead presenters at the Nike conventions. So I got to teach thousands and thousands of fitness instructors this new methodology that was coming through me. So what I was doing was completely different than what anyone else on the stage was doing. Like, I was so rogue, it wasn't even funny. And it's funny because people knew that I was smoking weed. And I was like, oh, that's that weirdo pothead. She's like, whatever. But what was interesting is at the end of every one of my sessions, I would get literally stampeded with people going, what the fuck are you doing? This is amazing. Like, I need to get trained how to teach this. Like, you need to show me how to do this. And I was like, well, I don't have a training system. I'm the only one teaching it right now. Like, this is my methodology that I've developed and blah, blah, blah, blah. But I'll take your email and when I develop a training system, I'll let you know and I'll contact you. So over the course of several years, I had gathered about 10,000 email addresses from all these conventions I'd been teaching at. I didn't have to do anything. I was just being my authentic, real self. And out of the blue, fucking Nike. I couldn't have planned that. I couldn't have asked for that. It just happened. It was like I wasn't pursuing it. I didn't know how I was going to make this dream. But literally Nike opened the door for me all over the world. All over the world. I was teaching my ideas all over the fucking world, and they were paying for it. Like, thank you. Hallelujah. And that's when I realized the power of me commanding what it is I need. You created me. This is who I am now. You better fucking show me exactly what I need to do. And boom, just. I didn't. I never had to pursue anything. And what's amazing, and now I talk about my vision. I had master trainers in all of these conferences around the world. There were very special women that came forward in a more profound way. And all of these women were like, I don't just want to teach this. Like, I want to teach other people how to teach this. Like, I want to help you. How can I help you? What do you need? I want to help you. These people are still my master trainers to this day. That's what's so awesome. They've been with me for some 17 years. Fifteen to 17 years, most of them. Yeah. Since the beginning. And I have a team of about 10 master trainers. So as we're going on, I'm gathering all of these leads. Everything's amazing. But you know what? Even though I had all this faith, even though I knew I was in alignment, even though I knew I was on the right track, I was still not fully conscious of everything. And I was desperate. Like, I started realizing, like, I've got so many people interested in this concept, but I'm traveling the world full time. Like, literally, country to country to country. Like, I would be in a different country every weekend. And because one conference, a Nike conference, all these other fitness conferences all around the world would come to the Nike conference, and they would see me, and they would be like, we want you for our conference. So it was endless. I was all over the world, just didn't know what end was up. And I was starting to get exhausted because I'm like, there's only me. And I have all these people that want to help me, but I don't know how to utilize them. Like, I don't have a training system. Even though, like, I was aligned, One of the greatest and darkest. The second darkest moment, my second dark night of the soul was about to come. Yeah. Even though everything was flying high, I was in alignment. The dark night of the soul number two was about to arrive and fucking kick me in the ass. So if you want to hear the Dark Night of the Soul, round two, stay tuned. Join me for the next one. I think we're going into episode seven.
All right, fierce ones, that's a wrap for today.
