Yo, what's up? So welcome to Keeping It Real, episode four with Misty Tripoli. So little housekeeping before we get started. First of all, hi, Alex. And diamonds and pearls. This episode is all about a couple questions. Finalized the whole Mexico thing, and then we're gonna focus this episode on how I made my money. Like how I went from completely broke and bankrupt at 38 years old with nothing, to building my dream home out in the jungle and how that all came about. So there's that. And if you. If you're just jumping on and you want to listen to the first three episodes, which have a lot to do with moving to Mexico and the, like, all the ins and outs of all of that, go check out and you can find those on my highlights on my Instagram profile. So anyways, notorious Mr. B. What a cool name. Welcome, guys. Okay, so let's jump right in. Let's get to the nitty gritty. So the final questions about moving to Mexico, you know, buying a car, immigration, all this stuff that's been coming. I've realized this. Things are changing here very, very quickly, just like they are in the United States. And what United States is doing is a ripple effect here. And so their laws are starting to change. Well, so the best bet for anyone that's interested, not just in Mexico, but if you're interested in maybe possibly checking out, living somewhere in the world, number one, you can go to chat to Grok. I would say Google it. But I actually think that, you know, the AI is the better search because it has up to date laws, rules, anything that's changed. So you can go and ask any question you want. And then what I like to do, because I'm a little deducted sometimes, is I say, you know, find out. I want to know about this, but tell me and explain it to me like I'm four years old. And it just lays it out so basic and so simple that I can understand it. Second part of if you want to go and get the out of where you live, which you should do, by the way, greatest way to change your life, change your mind, change your beliefs, change who you are, is actually to move from where you're from, get, like a complete change, and it will, like, you have to rebirth yourself. It's kind of awesome. And so anyways, just. I would just say that's a word of advice. If you want to make changes in your life, just go somewhere else. That still doesn't mean that you're not where you are. You still have to deal with your shit, even if in the new place. But a new place offers new perspective, new experiences. Your brain starting to work differently, and it allows you to actually become more, I think, more aware. And also you get to experience other cultures and it's. It's awesome. With that being said, if you want to move somewhere, go to Facebook and just type in expat and whatever that city is. I'm members of Expat, Playa del Carmen, expats of Tulum. And when I have a question, I just go and post it, because it's all people just like me, Foreigners living in Mexico, helping each other out, answering and asking questions, recommendations, all that stuff. So. So I can give you some stuff, but I'll give you the best bits of what I know about Mexico, because I also. When I started making money and I was able to do all this, I didn't understand how to do it all. So I just hired somebody to help me do it. Like, so I can answer questions, but it's not really coming from. I actually did it. I actually had. I paid people to do it for me. And I'm all about that. I delegate. I'm like, I don't understand that. You know, I've got people that I trust. They do it better than me. Anyone that does it better than me, I'll pay them to do it. Literally. Save yourself. So. So let's. So that's Mexico. Okay, let's get into the juicy stuff about how I made my money. So, yes, 20 years ago, I was living in Los Angeles. I was at the peak of my career in la. I was making six figures. I was doing very well. I was great at my job. I was a fitness. Not just a fitness instructor, but I was the fitness director for a massive chain of health clubs in Los Angeles. And I trained all the instructors. I had 500 instructors under me. And I actually loved my job. Like, I was really good at it. I trained instructors, I created fitness programs. I was like. I was, you know, working with, you know, Skechers and yoga works and all this. I like people. Like, I was in demand. It was awesome. And I was also choreographing shows and stuff like that. So there was one day when I had a very, very powerful spiritual awakening. But that came because some of you have, like, pain is a great motivator. It wakes us up. Well, the pain woke me up. Not only was I. It sounds like I was in a good spot. My work was a good thing, but I was working 60, 70 hours a week. Like, I. I had no life. I had two Cell phones, two computers. I mean, I was working my ass off living in my car, driving from location to location. On top of it, I was bulimic. So I would find a way throughout the day to throw up two to four times. And then I would also exercise on top of it because I was so terrified of being fat. And I just always trying to change my body. I was completely unconscious, like, to do. To do unconscious. And I was just trying to fit in. I had an apartment in Beverly Hills. I was driving a Volvo. I thought I would. I wanted. I was trying to be cool. I was trying to. But I was $75,000 in credit card debt. I was living paycheck to paycheck just to try to get the fucking credit cards paid. I was supporting a boyfriend and paying for his ass. That shit don't happen no more. But I was paying for him and supporting him. And I was just. I was. I. I was just at the peak of just. I didn't know who I was. And I was in so much pain. My physically pain. Like, my body was so toxic. And one day, I had a super freaking powerful spiritual awakening. And in part of a new series that I'm creating coming up, I will. I will share that whole day and that whole experience and what actually went down. But let's just say I got punched in the face with the truth. And I went, what the what? Like, my eyes were just opened. It was like the Matrix fell. I saw everything for what it was. I realized I'd been lied to since I was born. I realized I'd never questioned my government. I'd never questioned my religion. I never questioned. I never quit. And I'm just. Like, I've believed everything that I was told. Like, and I'm just trying to do what everyone else is doing. Like, what the. Yeah, nothing made sense anymore. Nothing. And I was like, I couldn't. I honestly couldn't speak for, like, two weeks. And so I had to take some time off work, but I knew I had to go back to work. And the thought of going back to work and having someone else own my time made me physically nauseous. I was. I became so. Like, I'm an autonomous being. Like, I'm a magic. Everyone is. Like, I'm a magical creator. Like, I just became so connected to some part of me that I'd never tasted before. And it was amazing. And I realized it. I was. I was finding my authentic self. Like, that's who I was starting to connect with is the, like, Misty. Like, who the is Misty like the worker, the lover, the girlfriend, the da, da, da, you know, like who like. And very quickly, my relationship ended. I set boundaries so fast. I was like, I ain't covering your ass no more. Hit the road, mofo. And if you can't pay, you can't stay. Like, I got real, like, firm with everything. Everything just got really real. Like I'm. I'm living on my terms, my way. Like, all of this shit's gonna stop. So I. I couldn't work. I quit my job. And so this great income, I was coming, but I was still living paid. And I was, you know, I said, credit cards up, like, I didn't know how I was gonna pay my rent. I didn't know what I was gonna do. I was just like, okay, then. But one thing that's part of the day that I did was connect to dance in a way that I'd never connected to dance. I'd always danced my whole life. I always exercised and did all that shit, but I never danced just for myself. Like, set myself free with music and just let it take my body. I never allowed that to happen. I was always in control of everything in my life, even my body. Hence the bulimia and the over exercise and the la la la. And on that day when I had that spiritual awakening, I would. I was dancing and I allowed the music to move through my body. And my whole body came alive in a way I'd never felt I could. I could sense the cells in my. Like, everything was just alive and the creativity that was flowing through me and I was like, what is my body doing? This is amazing. I'm like, I didn't know I could dance like this. Like, I was just like. And so that became my drug, my at. Like, I was so. What I was doing during this, through this time of me not being able to work and not being able to talk, I started a meditation practice. I was meditating four to six hours a day. I would sit in this chair and just sit and just go in and just witness my inner world and all of the intricacies and what I think and like the universe. And I was just asking the deepest question. I mean, I was going in there and so I quit my job and I was dancing and so dancing. Oh, and by the way, bulimia just disappeared. Gone, done. It was over. I was like, I don't. Like, there's no like, disappeared. Like 16 years, vomiting three to four times a day, disappeared like that bamboo. And all I could do was just be like, I'm So sorry for what I did to you. Like, how could I? How. You know, I knew I wasn't born to hate myself. I knew that this was not part of what life was meant to be, you know? Are you kidding me? And another thing, why I say fuck a lot, I fucking love the word. And the reason why is because I did not allow myself to swear until I was in my 30s. Till I woke up and I realized I was just like I was. I was taught and conditioned that these words mean a certain thing and that I have to be offended when they say it, and that that is irreverent and that is iron. I judged people that swore. I thought it was unnecessary and that people that swore were unintelligent. I had all these judgments around it. And then when I woke up and I was like, why am I giving a word any power at all? That's my choice. I choose the meaning that I give that shit. And I just went, boom. Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck. And it felt so good coming out of my mouth and playing with it. And so now it's like my favorite word. So if you follow me, you're gonna hear a lot of fucks. Let's just get that straight, okay? Favorite word. You can use it for everything. So anyways, back to the story, because it's awesome what happened and how dance just gave me everything. So I. With this dancing and connecting to myself, connecting to my creativity, my authenticity, my highest self, this part of me that I was. It was so delicious to meet myself. I was like, wow, this is who's been in hiding, like, oops. And hasn't allowed herself to shine and stand on her own two feet and do her own thing and, you know, you got power in you, sister. I just felt. I felt so empowered. It was really awesome. I still do feel empowered, by the way. Like, I. I feel like I'm. I feel like I'm a superhero. Let me just keep that straight. All right? So I didn't know how I was going to pay my bills, right? Let's just keep it straight. But I wasn't worried. I didn't have that fear anymore. I was just like, I just took the leap and I'm flying and I have no idea how I like what's going to catch me. But I didn't really care because I was clear that I would rather eat out of a trash can than someone else own my time and who I like. No will ever I would. No one will ever tell me what to do ever again. Ever. I will live on a street in his freaking sleeping bag before that will ever happen again. Like, I was clear. So I wasn't really. I didn't really have the fear. And I also knew that there was something greater at work. Like, I knew that this was my. Like, something needed me to wake up, come alive and understand the power and help people awaken. Like, this is part of all of what I do through my work and through what came through me. And what I'm doing on Instagram is to help people. Wake up to your own greatness. Wake up to your own power. Wake up to that. You have it all inside of you. You just need to connect to it. Let that guide you. Let it take you to the Stratus fear. I'm just saying. But you have to let that happen. And that's an inside job. So anyways, back to the story. Because I die, I. I do this a lot. So just deal with it. Let's get back to the juicy. So I'm dancing. I don't know what I'm gonna do. And so basically I started talking to whatever the thing was that made all this happen. I was like, yo. Because I was like, this was me. Now I realized this is me. I got attitude, I got pizzazz. I am sassy as a. And she loves. Like, I just feel so empowered. Like, and so I figured I'm not going to try to pray like someone else. Like, I was taught that you fold your arms and you bow your head and you close your eyes and then there's this types of prayers and these, these types of prayers and these, these types of prayers, and there's some spirit, like, way that you're supposed to do it, the correct way or the way that's going to connect you, whatever. Everything works for anybody. But what I realized is I was like, why am I copying anyone? Like, so I started talking to yo creator. What up, mofo? Listen, the bills are due. Don't know what I'm gonna do. So what I know now that I'm very clear on is that you made me to dance. Dance. You made me to dance. Like, I don't want to do anything but dance. So yo, homie, you better show me and make it so clear what I'm supposed to do that there's no doubt in my mind what I have to do and where I need to go and what that looks like. Like, because I'm. I'm a Libra and I'm all over the place and I can't make decisions. It's not my fault. It's the way I was born. And so I. That's why I demand it. I didn't. Just please, can I have this? I really want this. No, no, no. That's. Huh. Command that shit. Show me, guide me. Make it clear for me so that I understand. And I added this. Make it so magical that you blow my mind with how creative you are. Boom. So after I start making these commands and I've changed everything that I believe and think and like, I am. I'm doing the inner work. I'm telling you, meditation. I took those 60, 70 hours a week that I was working and I invested it into myself, full on. And I was hardcore. I, like, lost most of my friends, but I didn't give a. I was so diving into the inner world. I was just like, wow, look at what's here. And then while I'm dancing one day, I. I'm just. I'm in my zone. I'm in the flow. I'm in the groove. That's why it's called groove. I created the groove, the Groove method. And I'm in the flow and I'm just. Yeah, let my body go. And I'm just in heaven and ecstasy. I'm feeling so good. My body feels so good. I'm. Finally. The pain of my body has left me because I'm moving in a way that actually is the way I'm supposed to move and giving it permission to do that. And when that happens, the healing happens and the body starts to. To like, oh, this is how my body moves. So I'm in the zone, man. The groove. And I get this download in an instant. Boom. I saw the whole thing. I saw the method. I saw me traveling the world, teaching it to tens of thousands of people. I saw millions of people doing it. I saw my master trainer team. I saw the whole big. Like, I saw the logo. I. Boom, Beep. Like an instant. I felt like Neo in the Matrix when he has the thing pinned in his back of his head and then he wakes up and he's like, I know kung fu. That's exactly what it felt like. I was like, I woke up out of my dance trance and boom. And it was so big and so huge. I was like, I don't. What. I. How. How is this even possible? This. I'm. I'm just misty in Los Angeles, broke as fuck. Like, how am I gonna build a world movement? Like, ha ha. And I went into fear. That was the first moment back into fear that I was like, it's too big of a Picture I can't imagine how this is gonna happen. And then this feeling came over me that said, trust, you need to have faith because this will take care of you for the rest of your life. And it was clear and I was like, well, hell yeah, let's get this party started. And what I chose to do was not go out and try, try and make something happen. I didn't work harder, I worked so much less. I was in me zone, being authentic, dancing every day, taking care of myself, changing and doing the inner work. And then I, I did. When I quit my job, I kept teaching a couple of classes near my home because I lost my car as well. So I had to buy a 15 year old 800 Saturn from a Volvo like, but I didn't give a. I was like, I was free, I didn't care. And so I would go to the studio where I was, it's called Equinox in Westwood, Los Angeles. And I would go there and that's where I would dance. And I kept those classes and that's where I would have the space to go and dance all day long. So. But I wasn't not knowing what to do, but I kept my classes. Now what was interesting, we're talking just in a very short period of time. A couple weeks later I get a call from Nike and Nike is like, hey, you know, we've heard about you. You've got quite a reputation in Los Angeles and we hear that you're doing things a little bit different. We're really curious at what you're doing and we'd like to come because we're looking for female fitness athletes to represent our new ladies fitness wear because they were all into the other sports, but dance fitness wasn't something they did, but they were launching a dance fitness wear. And so I was like, sure, come on again. I did nothing but just be myself. It came, it just came to me was like, here you go. You're in line with what you're supposed to do here. I will, I will give to you because you're in alignment, okay? So just relax, enjoy the ride. Doesn't mean you're not going to work, but everything will come when it needs to come. Everything will happen the way it needs to happen. So Nike comes, brings eight people from corporate after the class. They're like, yeah, we dig you, you're badass. Like, sign me to a seven year contract. So I start traveling the world, teaching the groove everywhere, all over the world, thousands and thousands of people and I get to share this method that has just come through me and everyone that's doing it. Like, it's just me by myself. Right, Misty? Just all alone, traveling the world, sharing what I've. I know and having a blast. Just feeling so alive, like, on purpose. I was like that, yes, this is the best. And I got to see the world and I got to travel and I got to have all these experiences. I've circled the globe like 15 times. Awesome. So at these conferences, there'd be tens of, you know. No, there wouldn't be tens of thousands. There'd be thousands of instructors at each event. And after my sessions, they would all, like, I would get bombarded. Literally, they would, what are you doing? How do we learn how to teach this thing? Oh, my God. Like, it makes so much sense. Like, why aren't we doing this? And I go, I know. Like, I know, but I don't have a training system yet. I don't know. I'm. It's just me, like. But I'll take your name and your email and. And when I have something, I'll contact you. So after the course of, you know, three, four years, I had 10, 15,000 email addresses from all of these conferences, all around. All around the world. And then I met someone that. And that's. Well, that'll be another time. But that's when the world groove movement started. I eventually was able to create the training systems and started training instructors. And at this point, I now have. I have facilitators that teach the groove dance floor experience, which is what I developed through this awakening and this, like, healing of my life in 55 countries around the world. And actually, I think we just added three more countries. And it's super fun and people love to teach it because you don't have to be a professional dancer. You. Because you're not teaching people how to dance, you're actually facilitating a space where everyone. And it's. It's so ridiculously simple. That's why it's. It works because it's easy and it's simple. And most people won't do dance stuff because they think there's choreography or if it's going to be hard or something like this. We're Groove eliminates all of that. But what's really cool about it is the facilitator unites someone. I mean, unites everyone in, like, a common movement. And the movement could be walking. Right. Like, but everyone is doing it together. And that's super important because the community aspect is super, super important, especially in the live experience. So there's this unification of like, oh my God, we're all actually walking around each other, but everyone. The key is that everyone does it their own way. They go what direction they want, they go on whatever foot they want. All you like it is. It's so stupidly simple, it's funny. But what you get out of it is the most epic dance experience that will blow your mind. Everyone that's done it. And that's why this is what's so cool about the groove. No advertising. Every bit of it has been word of mouth because the moment someone does it, they tell all their friends and are like, you have to try this groove thing. So that's how it went. And I still have done no advertising, okay, like for the World Go movement. So I have two businesses. One is the World Groove movement. Now that's my grassroots, my training, my education, my retreats, all of those things that's in that realm. But then also at the same time, parallel to this is, and this is where my real money comes from is when I was back in la, there were these guys that were infomercial producers and they heard about me and they're like, we want to produce. Like, we want to take your groove thing and see if we can turn it into an infomercial or something like that. And I was like, okay. Like, you know, I was open. I was like, look at, look at, look at creator just bringing me everything I need to expand this and make it happen and make the money I need to make to make it happen. So at this point, you know, I'm still not making money. Like, I'm making enough from Nike. I wasn't like a full time contract. I got paid for my appearances, so I had enough to pay my bills, but I wasn't. There was no surplus. And then I had to start hiring employees for my company. So all the money that came from the movement, I would have to give it back to pay people to help me to do it. And I didn't do it alone. In all these conferences, I had the most amazing women come to me at the end of my sessions and go, yes, how can I help you build this movement? I am so behind this. I want to be a part of it. Let's do it. And those people are still with me. Like, they're still my master trainers. The director of my education, Danny, like still here. She actually moved to Mexico. Like, it's. We are a tight knit, beautiful family and our facilitators, it's like a big, huge family. Because once you get into it, you're like, oh my God, this is such an amazing community. It's not just about dance. It's about community. It's like now there's this. Now you have friends all around the world that groove. And wherever, whatever city you go to, you can find that community and connect and have fun. And so anyways, I diverse, but you can find classes, you can go to getgroove.com and you can locate a facilitator in your area. It's pretty dope. But this other side was Body Groove. And Body Groove was my online app. And that came because these guys that were wanting to produce something filmed a video of me. I shot a thing called Delicious Dance. It was my first Body Group video. And it for eight years we filmed it, but they couldn't figure out how to sell it. They're like, this just looks so different. We're trying to. We know it's awesome. We know you have something here, but we don't know how to market it. We don't know how to sell it because it looks weird. Because it's not the normal thing where everyone's standing in rows and everyone's trying to copy everyone's choreography. It looks totally different. It's like everyone's moving through the space, putting their style and personality. No one's copying anyone, no one's following anyone. And so it looks weird until you do it and then you're like, oh, this makes sense. And so it does. United and unique. Everyone unites, but everyone's unique. That's the world, man. What we gotta do. Everyone be your authentic self. But we need to unite. And yeah, we do. Anywho, I digress. Again, let's finish this story. So this Body Groove thing took eight years. We filmed it. And so still while after I moved to Mexico because I fell in love, that'll be another whole story that brought me here. And I fell in love here, not just with a man, but I fell in love with the like here. Like I was clear, I. I made. I made this conscious choice, will I move here? Even if he wasn't here, and I knew I would. So I was clear on that. I didn't move for him. I moved for me. Because I knew my life would be easier here because it's cheaper. And I would. I was still drowning in Los Angeles. So during all this time, I'm living in a really cheap 400 apartment in Playa. A month apartment. And I'm able to pay. I'm living in my best life, but not making any money. I'm still paycheck to paycheck because I'm. I'm having to put out all the money that's coming in, But I'm happy and everything's simple. I don't have all the things I, you know, I have a very simple. I had no furniture. All I had was my clothes. Life just got real simple. I didn't need a car anymore. I had a bicycle. Like, I'd rather have that and less. But then about eight years ago, yeah, I'd say about eight years ago or no, seven years ago is when I changed my relationship with money. And that was powerful. And that's when everything exploded. And I don't want to keep you guys. So what I'm going to do is next week I will pick back up right here on how I changed my relationship with money. And I will tell you, within two weeks, the money started flowing hardcore. So I want to break that down. But I want to keep you guys all day. I get. I'm so passionate about this story and I hope that you resonate with parts of it and inspires you. But that's how I made my money was body groove and the world groove movement. So next week will be part two of this little keeping it real conversation. Thank you, you guys, for being here. Esther Steeler. Thank you guys. I like. Yeah. And thank you for staying. And if this story interests you and you think there's other people that would be inspired by it, send it to them. Let's have these conversations because I really like, I want everybody to have their best life and it's possible for everyone. And I don't want any of you to feel stuck in where you're at because that fucking sucks. And you don't have to be stuck. You are not stuck. There's a beautiful saying that says, the cage is not locked. The cage you have around you is not locked. You can exit anytime you want. So we're going to go more into that next week. How I changed and rewired my shit about money and how the money started flowing. And then we'll continue on with the story through how I got my dreamland and built my dream home. So stay tuned for the next episodes. I'll go live again next week. Tell your friends and I'll see you guys next week. Massive love. Have a great day. Thanks for listening.
