CASE STUDY: How this career coach went from $0 and no business to $20k/mo in 4 months

Career coach Nash Becker built a $20k/month coaching business in four months starting from zero. She used paid ads to generate leads, a DM-based sales funnel, and high-frequency content with soft-selling stories to book calls. Within four months she hit $26k in revenue and quit her corporate job.

So we have Ash Becker here, um, a career coach. And, uh, what are we celebrating? I think you've bumped it up even a little bit more since we last spoke.
Yeah. Um, so I did my biggest month, which was $25,750, which is like insane. It doesn't, it doesn't even feel real. Like the money's in my account and I'm still like, can't believe it.
It's funny you say that. Like I can relate the first time I hit that month, it almost like you're, For me it was like, is it even safe to make this much money at once? Like, how does it work? So, um, yeah, cool. So we're gonna dive into basically kind of how you did that. I just wanna storytell, talk about the journey. All right. Before we play the rest of this video, if you want help with this stuff, right? Like growing your business, scaling your business, it might be leads, it might be, you know, closing more sales, maybe it's hiring a team, whatever it is. If you want help with this, click the link below this video, booking a time to chat with me, and let me see if I can help you grow. All right, let's get back to the video. I think where we could start, because you had a very interesting start, you almost didn't—
can you walk me?
I know. And actually, I'm going to preface this too. This is $0 to $26K, and she started from scratch, scratch, like, yeah, zero in the coaching business. I saw on the form, no strategy, no leads, no clue what to make for content, had never taken a sales call, like zero, right? Mm-hmm. $26K in like 4 months, right? Yeah. Yeah. But you almost didn't end up in here, so please walk me through that.
Yeah. So here's the thing, right? Like when I did the sales call with you, I met with a couple of other people as well.
Sure.
And By far, I knew straight away that your program was the best one. But I also, to take it back a step further, on the 1st of January, I looked at my life and what I had done the year prior. And I was like, what have I achieved? What have I done? I was like, what the fuck am I doing with my life, you know? And I literally made a decision on that day. I'm going to start a coaching business. Like, I've got skills here. I can do this. And so it literally was just, was an idea that I pulled from thin air basically. And I just needed to know how to put it into action because I was like trying to figure it out on my own. I just, I couldn't. The people that I met other than you and the other Ashley just didn't give me a lot of confidence. Like they didn't have a strategy. She was like, oh, we'll just figure it out. Like when you jump on into the program. And I was like, oh no. And so just that's to preface, because when I met with Ashley, I thought straight away the systems were great. But then because of the price as well, I just scared myself. I was just like, this is huge. I can't do this. Like, I need to spend like 3 months making content and like knowing, like, is this something I really want to do before I jump in? It was just fear, right? It was a lot of fear. And honestly, I was like, okay, I could get resourceful. I could try and make it work. So in the background, I was like, I'm going to talk to the bank. Like, I'm going to— I'm not going to go see what I can do. And then I like, I was stalling you guys for sure. I was like canceling my, my second meeting and like all those things.
Cancelled our follow-up call. We never should have gave you that option. No, I'm just kidding.
I'm glad you gave me the option, but I think also when you jumped into the DMs and I said to you, hey, I'm out, but like, thank you so much, but I'm out. And then you were just so authentic and so real and you were giving me like tips and like almost free advice that was blowing my mind. And I was like, this is what she's giving me for free. Imagine what it's like when I'm actually in the program. And so I just spoke to my husband and he was like, well, what are you waiting for? Like, just do it. Or would you spend your whole rest of your life being like, oh, I just, you know, you get to the end of the year, you're going to be like, I didn't do it. So it was the best decision I made. But I think fear is like a totally normal thing in this situation, and it has been throughout this whole journey of my business. But actually just believing in yourself and giving something a try is— yeah, is what worked.
That's awesome. I love that. And it's, it's funny, like, I hope someone Because like, we'll get to this at the end, but you're about to go on a very different path than you were on previously. Like, you're about to put in a notice, go to Bali, all this stuff, like, which is just wild. But like, it's, it's crazy because I was not to like— we're not to side quest here, but I just was on a call recently this week and there's a girl and I know I can help her, right? And she's kind of saying it's a finance thing, but I'm like, honestly, I don't think it's a finance thing. She, she really— I'm like, realistically, I'm just gonna level with you, it's fear. Because it is like you're, you're not even like— if you were willing to get resourceful, we could have a follow-up call, we could try to figure out how we can make it work. But you know, it's just like, I hope somebody in that situation hears this and like does something differently because you get one life. Yeah, yeah, you can't get the time back. And like what you can create with a coaching business is crazy.
So yeah, yeah, I agree. I, um, I think this is the thing that holds so many people back in life, is just like going for it, right?
So yeah. So anyways, okay, so you had the whole— we did the call, you thought I could help, but the price freaked you out. You were like, no, eff this, like I'm running the other way. Fear shows up, I give some value, and you're like, oh, fuck it. Like your husband kind of talks you into it a little bit. He's like, just what are you waiting for? And so yeah, And then what? Then what happens?
And, um, and then what happens?
What did we do? First, second, third?
Um, so basically in my first month it was like all of the foundations and things like that that you want to talk through.
Yeah, yeah, I'm just curious, like I want people to know like how did, how did you do it? What exactly? Yeah, you know.
Okay, so I think, yeah, probably the first like even 2 or 3 weeks were just like foundations and getting everything set up correctly. And I was so excited. The thing about me, and you can vouch for this, Morgan, is that I act really quick. As soon as like you or Mika are like, go do this thing, I'm like, not tomorrow, not next week. I'm like, fucking now. Like, we're doing it. And I think that is how I've applied everything I've learned in the program. Which is why I've gotten quick results, I think. So even for example, when you guys helped me with my first ad, sent it back to the editor, it came back to me. I was even like, oh, I'm not sure, like I don't love it. And I was like, I'm trusting the process and putting it out there. Let's do it, you know. Very, very quickly I had leads coming through. Very quickly I was like booking my first calls. You know, like it all, it all was happening just because I trusted what you guys told me to do, which was awesome. And then I think also like every step of the way, if I was like unsure, yeah, there was like trainings I could watch and all of that, but putting it into real life practice, there's just so much information in the community with you, with Mika that you know, you can apply it to your own niche and just like, you know, get in there and do the work and, and, and get the results essentially. So my first month, like after turning my ads on, I was posting content maybe like 4 or 5 times a week at that point. I hit 5,000 like in my first month. It was 5,400 off the top of my head. And even that was blowing my mind because I wasn't that confident in my price at the beginning, so I think my first sale was like $800. Yeah. Um, and then I quickly started to see the value and what I was bringing, and then I was like, okay, I've got to bump this up. So it's— yeah, I guess that first month, 6 weeks, like, that accelerated pretty quickly going from $0 to $5K. Like, I was super proud of that.
Most people don't get to 5K. Like, there's a lot of— right? So that's awesome.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, it is. Um, what else? I think also, like, the weekly sales calls. As you know, I, I'm in Australia, so I have to get up at like 10 to 5 in the morning to go to these sales calls. And I was like, you know, I've been pretty dedicated. I'm going to at least one, sometimes two a week. If not watching the recording. And also that information, being in that community, being around like-minded people, like seeing people get crazy results is so inspiring. And like they're literally telling us in the community, this is what I did, this is my approach. That also fires me up, you know? And in my second month, I hit 5,700, so closer to the 6K mark. But I was really hungry for more. And I remember, I mean, this is business, right? Like I kind of had like one really good week and then like no sales calls or no sales, then another really good week. Like it was very up and down and I was like, I got to hit this $10K month. Like, I know I can do it. And so I had a chat with Mika and she was like, well, for one, that's business. Like it's going to be a roller coaster. You have to like be resilient, you know? And so she gave me a bit of a pep talk, which was great. And then actually the best thing that she did for me was like reverse engineer my metrics. So I tracked everything like, you know, how many leads are coming through, how much content, the whole funnel of like my ad spend, you know, conversion, all of that. And we're like, okay, well, these are my averages. How many of each thing do I have to do to get to $10K? And that was Yeah, like insanely helpful. And I did it when I hit almost 11,000 actually that month, which was super, super cool. And I was just like, wow, like that wasn't that hard. Like I can do this, you know, like actually was like, oh, that was actually pretty easy.
Totally. So it was like around 5K and then it was 6K and then it was 11K and then it was like 25K or 26K. Yeah.
Yeah, yeah, exactly, exactly. Um, so yeah, I think also, like, I guess the thing that I would say that I've, I've really applied myself to this, like, I've put in every spare effort that I have. I've, like, learned everything. I know, like, you love the Hormosis, and I'm sure there is, like, something that she said around, like, you have to change the version of who you were to become like, you know, this next person in life. I can't remember the exact quote. Yeah, but it's true. Like, I've transformed myself, right?
Super cool. And what do you mean when you say you've transformed yourself? Like, what, what way do you mean that?
I just feel like I'm a different person. Like, I I am my business in a way. Like, everything that I do is like focused around that. But also, like, I am getting up at 5 AM in the morning and so inspired to jump in and do things to work on my business so my clients have amazing experience, so that, you know, I can then have quality time with my family later in the day. Like, I just wouldn't have done that before. Like, I never got up at 5 AM to you know, go to the gym or do anything. I was always like, ah, it waits till later. But it's just, yeah, it's transformed my mindset and I guess my perception of what is available to me in life.
Totally. And the crazy part is it's gonna get crazier. Yeah, like 5K was incredible at first, right? Like, I bet when you started, like, if I could get to 5K, that'd be awesome, or if I could get to 10K, that would be awesome. And now you're like, want to go past $25,000, you know, it's great.
Oh yeah, I think because, um, in my full-time job I earn like $8,000 a month, right? So I was like, well, I want to surpass that, like $10,000 is my goal. That was my goal when we jumped on our call, um, because I was like, then I can quit my job and like, you know, if I could do $10K a month, that would be amazing. Now I'm like, fuck that, $10K, 3x it.
You've already— yeah, that's great. Um, super cool. And like, you put on— I'm just pulling from the form you filled out, but like, you put ads and lead gen. I'm assuming you solved the leads problem with ads, like that's kind of how you did it, right?
Yeah, definitely, definitely. Do you—
I mean, I guess I was— I would say like, do you feel like that was a game changer for you? I mean, let me, let me back up a second. So you come into the program, we do all the foundational stuff like you're talking about, right? So we dialed in your niche, your offer, your price points. Felt a little uncomfortable at first, obviously, so we had them way lower. We've, yeah, like 5x them almost now when you think about it. So yes, we have, we started like $800 and we slowly stair-stepped our way up. Um, we kind of dialed in your messaging and then we used that to script the ads and launch those. I was gonna ask like, were the ads a game changer for you? But like, you weren't even really doing organic before, were you? Or you, you were kind of, but you didn't really know, like, where were you at with getting leads before? Like, how were you getting leads before?
I just wasn't— like, there wasn't a single lead. It was crickets, you know? It just, it wasn't there. And I also had no idea what to do with them, Morgan. So even if I did have them, no problem.
Yes.
Once you get—
what do you do? Um, how many people do you have coming into your world now? So obviously it's from the ads, but how many people follow you on a daily basis?
At least 50.
Okay, so you're growing by like 1,500 people a month now from the ads?
Yeah, exactly.
Okay, that's cool. Um, what about— so you get the ads going, how did you— because you said it's one thing to get leads, but what did you do to get those leads to book a call with you? Like, what went into that?
Yeah, it was absolutely like the DM flow that you taught. So definitely the training, and then I created my own version of that that Mika looked over and was like, yes, this is good. Um, so yeah, literally just uncovering everything in the conversation with, you know, potential client of like, you know, their pain and their goal and, you know, all of the details to qualify them if they're an ideal client, I suppose. Um, and inviting them to a sales call through that process. Like, yeah, that was super cool. I kind of remember also like booking my, my first couple of calls and being so excited and, you know, it's just amazing how much people open up and share their story. And so, yeah, it's pretty cool. I think, you know, building that, that trust with people is the core thing that I learned through the DMs. Yeah, there's like, you know, a system to follow and all of that, but it's like, if you don't have trust with the person, like, it's not, not going to be a qualified lead.
Yeah, yeah. No, I love that. So DMs were a big thing, that flow, building the trust, like getting the hang of that, right? Yeah. Would you say that was a— like, what book— how would I ask this question? Would you say that was a bigger thing for you in terms of booking calls? Like, what— where did content play a role? Like, would you say DMs was the part, or was content a bigger thing, or was it both?
It was everything, honestly. I just don't think I could do one without the other, right? So content, um, I did not have a clue about like what to do at the beginning. It's so confusing, right? And then you watch all these like people on Instagram being like, don't say this, don't give away tips, don't do this, and you're like, oh my God. And then as soon as I came into your program, it like so clear and so obvious and the way that you guys explain like, okay, here are all of the hooks that you could use or like here's how you could repurpose this for your niche, like actually giving real life examples of like try this and there's, you know, I don't know, Mika sends what, like 3 to 5 different ideas every single week of what you could do.
I would find that, yeah.
Yeah, and I literally just, I would do all of them. I'm like, hey, let's do all of them. Um, so I'm posting like 6, 7 times a week, actual posts. The other thing that crushed for me, which I learned really early on, was like the, the soft selling and stories. Um, like that really boosted my credibility. And, you know, like to the point now that I have, I think, you know, 9 out of 10 people that we talk to in the DMs always say like, I love your content, or, you know, this thing about your content resonated with me. I talk to clients and they're like, were you talking about me? Or like, was that just in my head? Or like, it's pretty cool. Um, yeah.
Cool, cool, cool, cool. Okay, so content, DMs. What about sales? So you book your first sales call, like what work did you do around, around sales? Because I'm gathering that was new.
That was so new. Like, I'll give you some background on my history with sales, which is that many years ago I used to be like an agency recruiter. And so a big part of that role was doing business development. It was like cold business development. And I left that because I hated it. It was awful. It was like the worst part of the job. And so when I had to do this and I was like, oh, I got to do sales calls, I was shit scared because I know that this like was unnatural to me, like was out of my comfort zone. So the only thing I think— not the only thing, but the way that you train on Sales, like, yes, there is like a formula there and everything to follow, which has been amazing for me because I can apply it to, you know, my own niche and what is going on. So actually having a formula that works you know, framing the call and all of that was great. But actually there's like two things that made me get, I guess, more comfortable with sales to the point now where I'm excited for a sales call and to the point now where I'm like, I get to help someone. And that is the feeling I have when I'm about to jump on a call. It's not like, oh shit, like, is this person going to buy? Or like, you know, whereas that may have been— I think that was my energy at the beginning. But now it's like, no, I get to help someone. Like, this is exciting. So that mindset shift for me was definitely something that you and Mika helped me with because a lot of it is, I've got a process, I've got a great program, I can genuinely help these people. But then the sales part, it's like, well, this is proven stuff that works, you know? So like, there's— it's proof. It's not like, oh, we just say these things and hope for the best, you know? Um, so, so yeah, this is, this is also being— well, it's, it's the lifeblood of my business now, you know. So yeah, I'm, I'm so grateful that I actually feel really comfortable in this space now.
Yeah.
Um, and I think this is why I have been able to, you know, effectively scale to that $25K Um, yeah, yeah, yeah.
I mean, your close rate, like, your close rate's 50%, like, it's, it is very high, right? Like, can we get it a little bit higher? Sure, but like, you're closing well, right? So it's good. Um, yeah, cool. Um, I'm just thinking, is there anything else? We talked about ads, so we talked about foundations, ads, DMs, content, sales. We, yeah, we talked about the prompts. Um, we talked about tracking metrics, which was helpful because like then you know what to change. Uh, it's also easier to figure out like what you need to do to hit your income goal, which apparently was helpful. Um, is there anything else you want to add just about the program or the coaches or the community or just like things that you did that you think would be helpful for anyone to know, like how you got to $26K a month?
I think my biggest, my biggest thing from all of this, Morgan, in your community and what you've created is like, this is so, so, so valuable. Like, I, I'm so inspired by everyone in there. I love that I have proximity to you and your brain and that If I am stuck with something, you literally send me a voice note, like a personal voice note, because you give a shit, you know? And like, you encourage me and you're like, "This is just the beginning, Nash." Like, all of these things, like, totally. Yeah, I just— I couldn't have done any of this without you, and I'm so grateful.
You're gonna make me tear up. Let's not have a crying party on here.
Sorry.
No, you're fine. I'm just—
sorry, you go.
I'm quiet.
Yeah, it's changed my life in so many ways, and it will just continue to. And I'm like, I just, I just wish more people would back themselves and do it because, yeah, it's like wasted potential otherwise. And, um, Oh God, I guess the other thing I will say, which I was talking to one of the new girls in the program, Meg, this week. She was like, what did you do? Like, how did you get there? And I was like, learn quick, apply it quickly. You've got to spend money to make money. And like, just don't be afraid to ask questions. Like, try something. Doesn't work, change it quickly. Like, that was my biggest piece of advice to her. Um, because honestly, I think also it's just, um, I guess I was in a fortunate place where I, you know, I can, I can, you know, spend $60, $70 a day on ads. Like, that was also a risk, you know, but the risk paid off. And, you know, the first time I did that, what was my ROAS? It was like 15 to 1, you know. Um, it works.
Yeah, cool. I love it. What does this make possible for you now? Out of curiosity.
Um, so next Tuesday I'm officially quitting my job, which is so exciting. Um, so no more corporate for me. And then on Wednesday I fly to Bali with all my family and my friends for my 40th birthday, which would be amazing. And you know what, it just it opens up so much opportunity for me. I, I can live the life that I've been dreaming of, you know. I can, I can pay off a ton of debt. I can probably, you know, buy my dream house that I want to buy. You know, I can, I can also just like work on my own terms and do something that I love and that I care about. Like that in itself is huge.
100%. I would agree with just like so much stuff that you said, you know, like, yeah, I don't want to make this any about me, but I agree with a lot of it, right? It just gives you more options, it gives you more freedom, and like there's probably a reason that you like to wake up at 5 AM or whatever time you do to do this stuff, because like that's why I wake up early too. I genuinely like this. I, I don't dread getting out of bed and going to this thing that I don't really care about, you know. Yeah, cool. And I liked what you said too about like the wasted potential thing. Like, my favorite part about entrepreneurship, it has nothing to do with the money or anything. Don't get me wrong, that's great. Love to be able to buy a Westie or like buy a motorcycle or go— yeah, but it's like truly for me, it's a big fear of mine is like you don't— you just, you just have regret. You just don't— you just waste your potential. It's just like just eats at me. And I think the greatest gift you get from it is like you become a totally different person.
Agree. 100%, wholeheartedly agree. Yeah.
Cool. Any famous last words? Anything else you want to say for anyone watching this?
Just bet on yourself and can you please fucking do it? Give Morgan your money.
Cool.
I guess that's it.
That's a wrap.
Amazing. Thank you. Thank you. Can I tell you something on a side note?
Should I end this recording?
I mean, keep it. Keep it there if you want to. You know, I kind of like set this weird goal for myself when I started with you as well, is that I saw all of your testimonials and everything and I was like, that's going to be fucking me. 'One day she's going to be doing a testimonial with me.' And that was like my goal. And I don't know why, but I was just like, this thing in the back of my mind, I was like, 'I want to get there.' And now I'm here. So it's just like pretty cool.
Full circle.
Yeah.
I love that you shared that because when I redid the intro modules for people, I basically say in the second video, I'm like, 'These— this is what you need to do to be a YouTube case study.' I'm like, 'This is how you need to operate.' And you already mentioned it, like, speed is a thing. Like, you need to be coachable and do the things we tell you to do. Like, we've done this with a lot of coaches, right? So yeah, I'm happy that you said that. So full circle, YouTube case study it is. All right, once again, I hope that you thought this was helpful.
