Aging in Reverse?! 3 Ways to Prevent Aging with Natalie Jill

Natalie Jill breaks down three ways to slow aging: shift your mindset to believe improvement is possible, eat unprocessed foods and cut inflammatory items like gluten and dairy, and exercise with progression while accepting your body. She draws from her own celiac history and book Aging in Reverse.

What's up, guys? Welcome back to my channel. My name is Liz.
This is Natalie Jill.
And I'm brought here today to talk with you about three pillars for aging in reverse.
Yes. So let's talk about that, because who.
Doesn'T want to age in reverse?
Exactly. Right.
I'm actually 90, but like I told you, 47.
Okay, cool. So what are the three things that we can do as women to age in reverse or to at least preserve our natural youthful appearance?
Yes. Okay. So me, first and foremost, I'm 47 years old. And is that anything crazy or unusual? No, it's not. However, what is crazy and unusual is so many people assume because they're in their 40s or 50s that it's too late, they're too old, that their metabolism slows down, their thyroid changes. There's all these things associated with aging. Right. That you're nodding your head because you probably heard them too. And I call them false assumed truths. Because just because a couple people experience something one way doesn't mean it's the way that you have to experience it. And there's so power in the mindset around things because if you believe you're too old and it's too late, then you are too old and it's too late.
Yeah. And then you don't even try because you're like, well, I'm too old.
Yes. And then you don't even try. So what I'm going to share is more about your ability to change from the inside out versus, like, what you can put on you to make yourself look younger. Because, yes, we can all do that, too. You can go have surgery. You can go put things on your skin. You can do all kinds of things to look younger, but I want you to feel younger so that you mentally are still open to starting your own business or creating the life that you want or going for your goals, your ambition, or getting in the best shape of your life or whatever that is.
Okay, cool.
Okay, good decision. Yeah.
Yeah.
So my book, Aging in Reverse, what I do is I touch on three pillars right here. Aging in reverse. Yes, Three things. And what it starts with is changing your state, which is your mindset, and then ultimately planning your plate because nutrition does get more important. And then how do you lose and ultimately love your weight versus looking at it from I hate my weight because I'm getting older. So that's the fundamentals of it.
Okay, cool. So let's go into the first one.
Yeah. So the first one, change your state. Nothing happens. Nothing improves. If you don't decide that it can, that it's possible. So that's first and foremost. If you're listening to this and you're thinking, I'm too old, it's too late, or your number of reasons, because we all have reasons why something isn't working for us. If you're focused on that, then you're going to be right. You're going to be absolutely right. If you look for validation that your age or your metabolism or anything else that that's wrong with you, you're going to find more supporting that that's the case. So first and foremost is to decide that is possible to improve. And that's first step. And once you decide gets easy to start looking for evidence to support that. That's true. So, for instance, if you're looking up at 47 years old here, if I'm looking up other women in their 40s that are struggling with things, I'm going to find that. But if I switch that and I start looking for other women in their 40s that are thriving, I'm going to find that. So it's all about what we decide to look for.
I love that.
So that's first and foremost. And then the second thing is to actually make a declaration that you're going to go for something. So a lot of times we say that we're going to try something. Like, I'm going to try this program, I'm going to try this way of eating, or I'm going to try this workout. I'm going to try this thing. But trying is not the same of actually declaring it like this is happening.
Because I said so.
Because I said that, like, this year I'm getting in the best shape of my life. This year I'm starting a business. This year I'm doing whatever because I. I'm declaring it.
Yeah.
And I said so.
Yeah, it's like languaging is so powerful. We. We kind of. Well, I'll speak for myself. In the past, when I wasn't paying attention to my languaging, I would give myself. I would soften it down. I would give myself permission to not fully go into something and the declaration piece and just being cognizant and conscious of the language that you're using because your words are your wishes. I say this all the time. What you speak into the world is what ends up coming into your.
Oh, my gosh, it's so true. And it's. It's crazy. It's not even just what you speak into the world. It's what you think about it too. It's making that declaration in your mind too. Like you're not going to let those thoughts in.
Yeah, 100% love that.
And then the third thing, this is a critical one. It's, it's your vision and knowing where you're headed. I would say if we were to get in a car right now, if you and I were to get in a car and two different cars and I said, okay, let's just drive somewhere, where are we going to end up? I mean, it's going to depend how much gas you have in your car. Where do you feel like, what else do you have planned today? Where do you want to go? Like, there's no limit or who knows where I go? Like, you could end up in New York. I can end up in Florida. Like, it doesn't. We don't know. However, if we get in the car and I say, okay, Liz, we're going to meet New York and we're both convinced that we're going to New York, we're clear. That's our vision. We're going to New York. Now, we might get there at different times, we might get there at different methods. You might drive to the train station, maybe I'll drive to the airport, maybe somebody else will block navigation. But the thing is, we are going to end up in New York because we have a vision and we're planning clear of where we're going.
Yeah, yeah.
Now, most people operate in life with who knows, let's just see what I feel like. So I'm getting older, but I don't know what I'm gonna work on today or I don't know how what's gonna happen. We're leaving everything up to chance versus actually being clear on our vision and what we want to create. So part of that pillar of changing your state is deciding that you're going to age and become your best you possible, like you're going to get better with age.
I love that I get to connect, commit to that every day. Yeah, you know what, it's actually true too. The more I have that belief rooted in myself, the more I do actually feel that way.
Totally.
I've noticed these last couple years of my life, they've been challenging in some ways, but they've also been the most fulfilling. And I do feel genuinely, each year, life becomes more fulfilling.
Yes. And look, I noticed if I were to go hang out with a bunch of 20 year olds right now and I could get stuck on two things. One, oh my gosh, I'm So much older than you guys. And I can get stuck on that, or I can get stuck on focusing on being with them and being present and having fun and living how they do. And that's gonna show up very different in my body. Same thing. I could hang out with a lot of people my own age, and if they start talking about aches and pains and what goes wrong with aging, I start getting enrolled in that too, and I start acting that way. But if I'm with a bunch of people my age that are talking about what's working in their life and what they're creating, a lot works there, too.
Yeah. It's like the power of proximity is really important.
Yeah.
It could definitely rub off on you, but you can also source and create that for yourself and anywhere you can go.
Yes.
You know?
Yeah. So mindset. Changing your state is such a huge part. And it's where I start the book with. And then, of course, there's the nutrition and the workout, but with nutrition, the main thing there is. I've always talked about an unprocessed natural food diet, but as we get older, it gets more and more important because your body does get less forgiving. So, for instance, where some foods might not cause inflammation, in a lot of people, if you are struggling with things like your back or whatever else you've got, you've got inflammation. It's going to get more and more important to avoid those foods that cause inflammation. So in my book, I do take out foods that cause inflammation, and what happens as a result is you do end up feeling less pain or not being in pain, which also helps change your attitude and your mindset. So now you're more active and you're more focused and clear and excited about what you're gonna create.
Yeah, for sure. Nutrition is a big one.
Yes.
Because even the food. Like I noticed, whenever I eat food that is very inflammatory or not healthy.
Yes.
I feel very sluggish.
Yeah.
I feel tired. Not just physically, but also mentally, emotionally. Like, it just is not. And I know. And I've learned to shift the foods that I eat based on how I wanna feel.
Yes, exactly. So, like, for instance, I know that my body does not do well with grains or dairy. Now, I happen to be a celiac, so I don't do most grains anyway. But I know for me, dairy causes issues with me. It does not cause issues with my husband. He doesn't have any problems with it. But being my age now and having dealt with things like a back injury and things like that, when I do have that now. It will flare up and I'll feel it more. So, like, recently I made a decision. I'm like, okay, I'm going to have gluten free pizza today. I ate the whole pizza and I paid for it for a week with inflammation and feeling that. So it's a choice. But as long as you know it and you expect it, then you can make those choices.
It becomes easier to make choices. Yes. Okay, cool. And then what's the third one?
The third one is your weight. And that is a lot of components. It's how you use your body to change your weight, but it's also about embracing and loving it. So with workouts, it doesn't matter what workout you're doing. My two rules with that are to make sure that you're progressing and you're being intense, whatever that means for you. So if you're doing the same workouts every day that you did 20 years ago and you're wondering why it's not changing your body, well, you're not progressing. So you still have to progress. So when you, whatever workout you choose, it's making sure that you're progressing constantly and that you're being intense for you. So creating intensity for you, it doesn't mean you have to go for hours or do anything crazy like that, but it's what makes it intense for you. And we all know when we're being intense, when we're cheating it.
How do you, how do you know in your workout whether you're being intense or not?
Because you can't go on forever. So if you're fully doing something in intensity, you're not going to do it for more than 10, 15 minutes.
Okay.
Like, if you really think about it. So think about you were to go outside right now and sprint.
Yeah.
Like, how long could you really sprint? Or go do chin ups or hold a plank? Like, how long could you really do it? If you could do it and talk for an hour, that's not intense.
Yeah. Say I always use the talk test.
Where it's like, could you help hold.
A conversation while you're doing this? Because if so, that's not intense.
Totally. Totally. So using progression, intensity, and then whatever workouts you choose, whatever's gonna work for your body, whatever you enjoy doing is the key.
