Hi, I'm Natalie. Jill. Let's talk about how to do a handstand. How to do a handstand. Now, I want to put a disclaimer out there that I'm a functional fitness trainer. I am not a yoga professional, so I know my technique and method may be different from some other things you might see, but this is what's worked for me. I taught myself how to do a handstand, and it's a great way to develop that functional training strength, to work your core, work your shoulders all around. Great accomplishment. It helps you become ultimately functionally fit, and that's always the goal. So the first step is to use a wall. You want to use a wall. The wall is your friend. And you want to start with your hands on the mat and your feet are on the wall, and you want to practice walking your feet up and back down the wall. That is the first step. How high can you bring those feet? How low can you bring them? Holding on, walking your hands out and back in as you're using your feet. The next step, once you've mastered that, is still using that wall. You want to face the wall and kick up against the wall, so you're pushing yourself up, holding that up for balance, and that wall catches you. So you've got nothing to be frightened about. So holding it there, and you want to try to hold it as long as you can so you can really develop that core and that shoulder strength. And once you advance from that, you can slowly take off one leg at a time. You want to keep those glutes squeezed and your stomach, that core, that center engaged and tight, so everything's very controlled. So there you have it. That's my functional training way on how to do a handstand.
