Hi, guys. Natalie, Jill here. Welcome back to Happy, Healthy and Fit. Today I'm talking about how to stay fit at a desk job. Because so many of us, we can't avoid it. We have a desk job and sitting is one of the worst things for you. The more you're sitting. Our bodies are not meant to be sitting all day long. We slow down our circulation, we get hungrier, we get bored, we're not moving and that seems to pack on more and more weight. So I'm gonna give you some tips on how you can they fit even at that desk job. The first thing I want to say is if you can replace that chair with a stability ball. Stability balls are awesome. Now, you don't want to just be slouching on it, but just by forcing yourself to sit up on that stability ball, you're engaging your core throughout the day. So as you're typing away and working, you're getting a little mini workout in. So my first tip is to use a stability ball instead of a chair. To take that a step further, if you can, consider getting a stand up desk or a treadmill desk, because then you are using more calories, you're using your body the way it's meant to be used and you're not sitting as much. So that's more advanced. If you don't want to do that, just starting with a stability ball as your chair is a huge first step. The second tip is to always have water by your desk. Really important, always have water. The more hydrated you are, the less likely you are to think that you're hungry and start having cravings and feel like you need to be snacking while you're working. A lot of times people mistake hunger for thirst and as we're sitting, typing away, especially in the middle of a project, we're getting really deep entranced with it. We forget to be drinking water and next thing you know we think we're hungry and we need sugar and fat and whatever else when in actuality we're just thirsty. So by having a water bottle nearby and sipping throughout the day while you're working, it's going to help you. The next tip I want to share is to set a timer. What do you set a timer for? Every 45 minutes. You don't want to be sitting for more than 45 minutes at a time. So if you must sit and concentrate for 45 minutes, do it at that time. Mark, get up, walk around, jump around. If you can just move your body, keep it going. Body in motion will always stay in motion and it's the way we're designed to be. You're gonna burn more calories throughout the day and it helps you stay fit. It also has a huge help on your attention span because it's really hard to stay in that creative zone for more than 45 minutes at a time. You're at your best once you've taken a little break and recharged. So that timer is and getting up after 45 minute intervals to walk around is gonna do a lot of change for you for the better. The next tip I have is to keep those snacks and food away from your desk. Now I know a lot of people will say keep healthy snacks at your desk nearby, but by mindlessly snacking all the time while you're working, you're gonna add those extra calories, that extra weight. So bring healthy snacks to work, have them nearby, but get up to go get them so you know what you're doing. So you're distracting yourself from your work to get up and consciously make decisions before you're grab snacks. The next suggestion I have for you is instead of having a lunch date every day with friends, consider packing your lunch, bringing your lunch to work with you. Got my six pack bag here that I love to use for that. Keep your food in a bag, put it in the refrigerator at work, have your planned healthy meal ready to go and use that lunch hour instead of going out to eat to eat short and quicker and then go do something active with a friend. Use that time during that lunch break to go walk with a friend. Even eat your lunch while walking if you can. So your desk job does not have to be in the way of your weight gain. It does not have to get in the way of your fitness goals at all. It's all how you look at it and it's about you finding solutions to get around the hurdle of having to be at a desk all day. So I hope I've given you some tips to help you out there. Try them out. Comment below, let me know if you have any tips I haven't thought of.
