Waist Trainers: Yay or Nay? | Natalie Jill

A short YouTube video by Natalie Jill discussing waist trainers. She explains what waist trainers are, demonstrates putting one on, describes strong discomfort (breathing difficulty, rib pain, sweating, marks on skin), questions health benefits, and advises against them based on personal experience. She notes historical corset origins and that she tested a size up but could only tolerate about 30 minutes.

Hi, guys. Natalie, Jill here. Back on Happy, Healthy, and Fit. And today I'm talking about a disturbing topic to me, and that is waist trainers. Because if you haven't seen what these are, these are a popular topic lately. I'm getting a lot of questions about these. They're called waist trainers, and the thought behind them is you wear them, and they help to reposition things on your body so that you get more of an hourglass shape. So the idea is to make your waist slimmer and supposedly burn more fat in the midsection area and to help spread things so your booty looks a little bit bigger and your chest is a little bit bigger. But the goal is to make your waist smaller. It comes back from the concept in the. A long time ago in the 1800s, some people wore corsets to tighten things up, and everybody had these perfect hourglass figures. But these things are taking them to a whole other level. And before I gave my thoughts on it, I wanted to order one and try it so I could really speak about what it was like. And I want to share this with you.
You can find them all over the line right now. There's definitely a lot of celebrities and people using them. And when I measured myself for it, I actually ordered one size bigger because I was nervous about how these would fit. And I want to show you what happens with these, and then I'm going to get to my thoughts on them, which are not that great, but I want to show you why.
So first, I'm going to show you what happens.
And the thought is, you have to.
Wear these almost all the time so.
You can train your waist to be smaller. Now, granted, I ordered a size bigger, and look where I'm starting here.
Okay, so I'm going to put this thing on, make sure I've got it in the right direction first.
I got to figure that out. All right, got it here.
And this is neoprene right here.
So I'm really going to.
And I'm going to put this on the loosest one. There's two options here, but just get it all in there.
This is part of the process. Now, when I first got this, my plan was to wear it out for a full night to get the full effect. But I'm gonna tell you, I didn't last more than 30 minutes in this thing because it was so horribly uncomfortable. So wait.
It'S a workout just to get this thing on. Okay, here we go.
Mm. Ah.
Oh, my gosh. Okay, it's on now. What's happening here? I can Barely breathe. But it's supposed to be squishing everything extra that you have either up or out.
So I'm just gonna be a funny Instagram pose right now.
A lot of people are wearing these under their clothes, but I want you to.
First of all, it's making it so I can't sit. I can't use my core. So I'm hearing people say that this strengthens their core. It's weakening your core because you're not using your core when you have this on.
You're stuck in a position. The only benefit I can think of in this, and I don't even really.
Know that it's a benefit, is, yeah, you might lose weight because you can't eat, because there's no place for your food to go because everything is smushed around. So I gotta tell you guys, this is pretty uncomfortable. Can't really breathe.
It's hurting my ribs. I definitely cannot eat.
I cannot sit down. So maybe it looks okay.
It's kind of hot. I'm sweating in it already.
I don't think there's anything healthy about this. I really don't. Is it as damaging as I think it could be? Maybe not. I'm not a doctor, I'm not an expert on this, but I can tell you it is not strengthening your core. It is definitely not healthy to be squishing yourself into a little, tiny. I don't know, whatever. For what? Why are we doing this? That's my thought on waist trainers. So maybe I look really thin right now. I don't know. But they're uncomfortable. And I went to go wear this out for the night because I wanted to see if I could actually do it, and I did. Not even last. I couldn't have been more than 30 minutes. It was so uncomfortable.
So I'm going to take it off. The other thing is, when you wear.
These and you don't have a shirt underneath, it leaves marks on your skin that lasts for several hours.
So the best thing about these is taking them off. Anyway, that's my thought.
On weight trainers, I would suggest do.
It the right way.
Eat healthy. Eat unprocessed foods. Work out. Use your core. Get that midsection tight the right way.
